Summary of the Lesson Plan: This social studies lesson is for 2nd grade students to learn how to identify ways in which people cooperate to achieve a common goal of recycling. This lesson will be completed using a strategy from Integrating Language Arts and Social Studies textbook, Strategy10 (p.70-76). C. Basic Information: Grade Level: 2nd grade Time to Complete this Lesson: Approximately 50 minutes Groupings: Whole group discussion, small group for discussion, independent work for assessment D. Materials: pencil paper examples of recyclable items E. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards H2.2.1 Identify ways in which people cooperate to achieve a common goal. o Student-Friendly Standards I can identify ways people cooperate to achieve a common goal. F. Explain the concept of recycling 3. Call students attention to the different ways a community can recycle 4. Identify & discuss the benefits of recycling. o Have students create a two separate list of things to recycle at home and at school o list requirements o 3 different types of recyclable items H. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will review each students list of recyclables to ensure that they are able to identify ways in which people cooperate to achieve a common goal of recycling. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will check each list and make sure that there are 3 different types of recyclables listed. I. Closure: Brief discussion about concept and importance of recycling and the different types of recyclables.
