and present a report on the same in their fourth semester&
This document contains details of e"pected practices with
respect to the research pro%ect submission& 'learly general
guidelines such as these may not cover all circumstances&
$articular emphasis and minor ad%ustments may be
necessary in individual cases& (uch ad%ustments are to be
brought to the notice of the faculty and only on their
approval it should be incorporated in the thesis& It is thus
imperative that students consult their faculty members for
specific advice and guidance on matters pertaining to the
design and content of your study and of course the

The students are re+uired to sub(it a project joining report duly signed by the industry
supervisor,depart(ent head fro( the organi$ation they have joined for their project soon after their

The joining report should ideally be acco(panied by a Researc% Pro'osal for the study that
they will be underta*ing for the project. The guidelines for preparing the proposal are as (entioned in
'art 2 of this docu(ent.

The students are re+uired to be in constant touch with their industry and faculty supervisors
and should appraise the( of their progress in routine. "t the end of the project the students are
re+uired to sub(it a report detailing the project and its findings. The detailed guidelines regarding the
structure of project report are provided in 'art - of this docu(ent. .t is highly reco((ended that the
student plan their report writing well in ti(e as few sections of the report can be prepared
concurrently while wor*ing on the project. .t is advised not to leave the tas* of report writing
co(plete to the end stage of the project. The guidelines for specific (echanics and for(at of report
are provided in 'art # of this docu(ent.

The students are re+uired to obtain feedbac* fro( their industrial supervisors% regarding the
+uality of their wor* and study. This should be ta*en as a positive criticis( of their wor* and an
opportunity to correct the deficiencies. The foral feed!ack (see Anne"#re $) for forat) is
re*#ired to !e taken in d#'licate fro( the industrial supervisors%. " copy is to be attached at the end
of the report and the other copy to be forwarded to the depart(ent in a sealed envelope.

.n the research project students are e&pected to provide a critical review of the e&isting
literature published and unpublished% on the research area being investigated. This does not (ean
that you have to indicate every boo* and article that has been written on the subject but any research
article you read should be referenced appropriately. 0evertheless your review should indicate that
you have studied e&isting and recent wor* in the field.

+ualitative studies, the object is to present the data collected to answer the research +uestions. >ou are

order.
b% "nalysis of data is conducted through the identification of the(es. The research tools in
+ualitative research include open-ended descript ions, transcripts of interviews, essays and

useful way to process this data is to *eep the research +uestions% in (ind, to read through the
data a couple of ti(es until particular issues or the(es present the(selves. These can be
suggestive of a structure for presenting the descriptive data.

The only ti(e you would ever describe data on individual subjects is when you have done a
case study.
c% .n this section, the tas* is to su((ari$e data (eaningfully, through the use of descriptive
statistics. These include (ean scores, (edians, ranges, standard deviations, correlation
coefficients and so on.
d% Aisual presentation is very i(portant in +uantitative research. Braphs, tables, histogra(s, bar
graphs are si(ple ways in which to present condensed data but they are also very effective.
