SPARE THE ROD,

SPOIL THE CHILD.

By Megan Burton, Teri Toyn and Devon Terry

SCREAMING CHILDREN BANNED
FROM A MALL

WHY SHOULD WE SPANK OUR
CHILDREN?
Spanking has various advantages, such as learning
Respect for others
Responsibility for his/her own actions
Proper decision making
How to set standards

CHILD RESPECTS HIS/HER ELDERS
A temper tantrum that is improperly
resolved can quickly result in lack of respect
towards parents and other figures of authority.
CHILD LEARNS RESPONSIBILITY
Children currently lack in responsibility
as result of parents looking at others being at
fault before their child, or simply by the parent
attempting to punish, but instead the
punishment turns more into a reward.
CHILD LEARNS HOW TO MAKE
PROPER DECISIONS
Lack of proper discipline results in lack of
understanding between good and bad decisions.

Good and bad is generally what is or is not
publically acceptable, and what can have a negative
outcome.
CHILD LEARNS HOW TO SET
STANDARDS
Through discipline, a child learns that
some things are dangerous or bad for them
while others are good.

Well disciplined children learn to value
their education, health, family and friends, along
with many other aspects of their life, and set
standards to achieve greatness.
SPANKING MAY SIMPLY WORK
BETTER THAN TIME-OUT
Though sometimes effective, often timeout
turns into play time. Other times the child does not
understand why they are in timeout, or parents
forget that they placed their children in timeout.
OVER THE LINE
Some say that spanking is just over the top and is
abusive. But they forget to differentiate between a spank,
and most other corporal punishment.

Spank A strike on the bottom with an open hand.

Corporal Punishment intentional affliction of pain
designed to punish.

Spanking can be labeled as corporal punishment.
Previously the death penalty had also fallen under the same
catagory
DOES SPANKING CAUSE ISOLATION,
DEPRESSION & OTHER MENTAL
DISORDERS
In a study conducted by a Calvin College
professor, it was found that the majority of teenagers who
had been spanked as children responded with a more
positive outlook on life, achieved better grades, were
enthusiastic about responsibilities
such as volunteer work, and had
stronger desires for a higher
education
THOUGH SPANKING IS A VALID FORM
OF PUNISHMENT, IT MUST BE PROPERLY
USED.
Many adults make the mistake of resorting only to spanking as a form
of punishment. others when they spank, they do so out of anger, rage, or
frustration and spank several times in a row and occasionally hard.

To spank properly you must be sure you have control over your
emotions first, then you must incorporate a way of helping the child
understand his wrong after he has acknowledged it (talk it through with your
child, take away goods/toys).
Never forget to acknowledge and compensate for
good behavior. Just as bad things have bad consequences,
good things should have good consequences too.
