TAKING OVER THE WATCH CHECK LIST
The relieving officer loudly announces: I TAKE OVER THE WATCH The officer who hands over the watch shall verify that: Yes No N/A Comments 1. The personnel of the relieving watch is physically able to fully fulfil his tasks
2. The relieving officer has read and understood the Masters orders concerning the operation of the ship
3. The relieving officer has taken knowledge of chief engineers special orders about any equipment in case of UMS controls and specially about alarms and indicators provided on the bridge, procedures for their use and limitations at different determined levels of gravity
The relieving officer have been informed of the following elements: Yes No N/A Comments 1. The fix position on the chart, the course, speed and draft of the ship
2. Environmental conditions (encountered/ expected) Tide, current , visibility, sunset and sunrise hours.
3. Navigation equipment in use / no operational.
4. Alarms settings on the integrated navigation system.
6. Recommended main engine settings by captain and the routing operator
7. Stability conditions.
8. VHF channels, navigation lights.
9. Reporting ( VTS , Port ,others ) 10. SAR operations in progress. 11. The ships and other navigation marks (buoys and lights), any dangers that they represent navigational warnings and hazards likely to be encountered during the watch
12. The gyrocompass error and the heading indicated by the magnetic compass 13. Autopilot course and rate of turn settings
14. Passage plan status and deviations.
15. The status of radar : performance, the choice of range scale, heading and speed inputs (true or relative motion), target acquisition, plotted dangerous targetsFore scanner in used if fitted.
16. The status of the communication equipment: (Satcom B and C, GMDSS, AIS ) and the latest emergency or other messages received (Navtex, Safetynet)
17. Maintenance, operational limits of M/E, auxiliaries, steering gear motors, others. 18. The security/safety measures taken if any, drills, others.
19. Personnel on deck/In confined spaces
20. Present location and means to contact the Master
21. Any other relevant information :.
