Motivation Studentswillbelearningaboutnewtechniquesandanartmovementbutstillusingtheirpriorknowledgetocreatea

SequenceofActivities
DayOne:StudentswillbepresentedwithaPowerPointwithimagescreatedbyClaudeMonet.Studentswillbe
askedtodescribetheimagetheyseeontheboardandhaveaverbaldiscussionusingtheelementsofart.Studentswill
distinguishthecharacteristicsintheotherworksshowninthePowerPointandrecognizehowtheyallconnectwitheach
other.Afterthediscussionimpressionismisredefinedandwrittendownonthefirstsectionoftheirhandoutand
discussedabitmore.StudentsthenreceiveasheetofsketchpaperandcreateasketchusingMonetssubjectmatter
thattheywillusefortheirfinalpainting.

DayTwo:StudentswillcomeinandreviewthePowerPointanddiscusstheobjectivesfortheday.Studentswill
haveaclassreviewonhowtousewatercolorproperlyandtheimportanttechniquestouseandrememberduringthe
project.Studentswillhavedefinitonsonthewhiteboardoncertainwatercolorwashesandtechniquesandbeshown
visualexamplesaswell.Onthefirstdayofwatercolor,Studentswillusethematerialtocreateasolidorgradedwash
whilejustfocusingonbackgroundcolor.

DayThree:Studentswillcomeintoclassandhaveanotherquickreviewofhowtousethematerialsproperly.
Studentswilltaketheirpaintingsfromtheclassbeforeandtransformtheirwashintoanimpressionistartwork.Students
willcreatethedetailontheirimagesandfocusonaddinginthesmallshortmarkingsandotherchatacteristicsof
impressionismwhichhavebeenrepeatedandlistedonthefrontwhiteboard.Oncestudentsfinishtheyareaskedto
evaluatetheirworkandhandintheirrubricsandpaintings.
DifferentiatedInstructionand
Adaptations Forstudentswhoneeddiffereniatedinstructions,theuseofwatercolorpencilsinsteadofwatercolorareanoption,
allowingstudentswhoareunabletocontrolorusethewatercolormaterial,achancetostillpaintandgetresultsthey
willpraise.Studentswhoneedmoretimewillignorethetimerestrictionsforeachclassandworkatthehighestand
fastestabilitytheycan.
