Dear Dr. Bruce,

I am here to display my portfolio that shows the required accomplishments of all six
student learning outcomes (SLOs). This portfolio contains five documents which are: informal
peer review collaboration Theresa Jones, argumentative final revision, argumentative peer
review, argumentative original with comments and lastly the cover letter. The arrangement of
documents is to show my progression as a writer.

The first document is the informal peer review. This covers SLOs one and six. It covers
SLO one because it states that we need to write formally and informally, in and out of class, for a
variety of audiences and purposes. For the informal peer review, I have attached a screenshot of
the email and as well as the profile assessment rubric sheet. The screen shot of the email
addresses the fact that I did write informally when emailing my peers about our profile to show
what needs to be done. Then to make it formal, I would have to use the correct citations when I
would use terms such as according to since it was an academic paper. SLO six is covered in
here as well because it states that improve ones own and others writing skills through the
assessment and critique of written works. This goes over SLO six because the screen shot is
when Theresa is critiquing us on our assessment while the attached document is when I critiqued
her paper for her group. Both of our groups used the necessary criticisms to improve our writing
skills. Therefore, SLO one and six were completed in this informal peer review email.
For the second document, it contains the Argumentative Final Revision where it satisfies
SLO three where it states that I need to compare, contrast, and synthesize carefully and
objectively the relative merits of alternative or opposing arguments, assumptions, and
cultural values. In short it means to have a balanced argument in which I accomplished
because I showed both pros and cons of the use of Pre-Workout. I also looked up studies
and counter arguments to make Pre-Workout legal while my intent of the paper was to
make Pre-Workout illegal. By showing both sides of the argument and not being bias, I
satisfied SLO three.
As for the fourth document, it is the Argumentative Peer Review and this fulfills SLO
two. SLO two says that to find, evaluate, select, synthesize, organize, ethically cite, and
present information from a variety of sources appropriate to their disciplines. In the Peer
Review, they said that I needed to work on my citations, back up with facts and more
information. They also stated that my research was all there but more statistics needed to
be added and to use a variety of sources. I completed this by finding and adding more
citations, facts and statistics throughout my paper that means I have satisfied SLO number
two.
The Argumentative Original with comments achieves SLO four where it says to organize
ones thoughts and communicate them clearly and persuasively to address a rhetorical
situation. I was able to organize my thoughts and communicate them effectively in a
rhetorical situation because I was persuading the audience to make Pre-Workout illegal.

Throughout my paper, I organize the paper by stating what is Pre-Workout then what is in
it and lastly the pros and cons as well. At the end of the paper, I restate why Pre-Workout
should be illegal by stressing my thesis again. The structure was crucial because I would
confuse the reader if I didn't start off with explaining what it Pre-Workout to begin with.

The final document is my cover letter and it satisfies SLO five which states one needs to
recognize, evaluate, and employ the features and contexts of language that express and
influence meaning and that demonstrate sensitivity to gender and cultural differences. I
believe I used completed this SLO by demonstrating and trying to employ effective contexts
of language by conveying it to the reader, Dr. Bruce. The cover letter alone completes SLO
five in every single way.
In conclusion, I satisfied all six of the SLOs required for the portfolio with the
documents I uploaded onto Weebly. With this cover letter, it should definitely show my
progression throughout the semester as a writer. Thank you for taking the time to read my
portfolio and I hope I will be able to take what I learned in this class throughout my college
years.

Sincerely,
Michael Claro
