April Fool

Many naïve people do celebrated what is wrongly and maliciously

called the April Lie, which is conventionally translated, “April
Fool.”

The Bitter Reality; Behind This Term?

When Muslims ruled Spain approximately a thousand years ago,

they enjoyed indomitable power and authority. On the other side,
non-Muslims tried their utmost to efface all the Islamic landmarks
in the country. They had succeeded to some extent. Subsequently,
they tried valiantly and arduously to prevent Islam from spreading
freely in Spain, but all to no avail.

After all those continuous flagrant attempts, they eventually

decided to send their spies to Spain in order to research weaknesses,
blunders and mishaps of Muslims. Finally, they discovered that it
was difficult to defeat Muslims when they were pious, God-
conscious and staunchly following the teachings of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH). We read in the Holy Qur’an: “Allah has
promised those amongst you who believe and work righteous
deeds, that He will, of a surety, grant them in the land,
inheritance (of power), as He granted it to those before them;
that He will establish in authority their religion – the one which
He has chosen for them; and that He will change (their state),
after the fear in which they (lived), to one of security and peace:
‘They will worship Me (alone) and not associate aught with
Me.’ If any do reject faith after this, they are rebellious and
wicked.”(24: 55)

When the Christian dignitaries and elite discovered the secret

behind the power and strength of Muslims, they then started to
think of a credible strategy that would lead to the disbandment and
breaking apart of the Muslim source of power, energy and delight.
They eventually came to a convincing conclusion that it was
imperative to export big quantities of wine and cigarettes to Spain.

This ploy yielded fruits in the long run as it led to destabilization of

the Muslim community and thus dissuaded the youth from God-
consciousness and abidance by His commandments. Eventually, the
Western Catholic clergy were able to conquer Spain and thus end
the Muslim authority over there, which spanned 8 Centuries. The

last castle of Muslims in Granada, Spain to fall in the hands of the
cruel merciless invades was on the 1st of April, hence the title,
‘April Fool.’

Since then, some Christians have always been celebrating that day
and thus regard Muslims as fools. For they do not only attribute the
fall of Granada to the gullibility and foolishness of the then
Muslims army, but they also consider the entire Muslim world to be
naïve, ignorant and foolish adherents of Islam.

The following facts should be put into consideration:

First, Attending such celebrations by Muslims is regarded a

manifestation of ignorance and foolishness. To make matters worse
is the fact that we blindly imitate non-Muslims in translating the
aforementioned nasty and malicious viperous idea into action. If we
really understand the reason behind that celebration, we wouldn’t
have been celebrating our defeat as such we would abhor anything
related to such celebrations.

Second, it should be noted that lying is totally forbidden in Islam.

We read in the following verse some attributes of true servants of
Allah: “… those who witness no falsehood and if they pass by
futility, they pass by it with honorable (avoidance).”(25: 72)

This verse implies that amongst the truest and honest servants of
God are (1) those who give no evidence that is false, and (2) those
who do not assist in anything which implies fraud or falsehood.

It was narrated by Abu Sufyan (May Allah be pleased with him) in the
course of his detailed narration about Heracleus (the then emperor of
Rome) when the latter questioned him about the teachings of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH). He (Abu Sufyan) replied that Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) admonished them thus: “Worship Allah alone
and do not associate anything with Him; and give up all that
your ancestors said.”He also commands us to establish prayer,
to speak the truth, to observe modesty and to strengthen the ties
of kinship.”[Related by Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Abdullah bin Masoud also narrated that Prophet Muhammad

(PBUH) said: “Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Paradise. A
man persists in speaking the truth till he is enrolled with Allah
as a truthful man. Falsehood leads to vice, which leads to the

Hell-Fire. A person will continue telling lies till he is enrolled in
front of Allah as a liar.”[Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Commentary

Siddique (veracious) and Kadhdha’b (liar) both are qualities of

superlative degree. That is to say, the words stand respectively for
someone whose truth has become his second nature such that he
also tells the truth even though it is against him. And in the opposite
case, one is a liar who is in a congenital habit of telling lies. As one
acquires a reputation in this world for his good or bad deeds similar
is his position before Allah. One who is ranked among the truthful
he is entitled to abundant rewards from Allah Almighty if he
observes that adjective out of sincerity without dissemblance, and if
one is a liar, he has to suffer retribution for it. This Hadith provides
and incentive for truthfulness because it is a source of every good
deed and contains a warning against lying as it gives rise to all
kinds of mischief and deprives people of the peace and security
they ought to enjoy.
