Criterion A Use of knowledge

Serving

1. Identify the grip in both pictures?
Answer: Pen Hold

Answer: Shake hand

2. How many services does a player have in a row in a game?
You get to play to 11 points and every player gets to serve 2 times and then
hands over to the next person. If the points are at 10 all you only get to serve
1 time. If you fail to serve the ball it is called a fault and the other player
would get the point.

3. Can the free hand rest on the table while returning a shot?
You are not allowed to put a free hand on the table tennis table while a raffle
is going on. If you do you lose a point this only counts for the playing surface.
The player is only allowed to put a hand on the playing surface after the point
was shot.

4. How many games make up a match in a tournament?
In the Olympics there are 7 games so the person who wins 4 off them wins the
tournament. In a not official tournament the best of 5 games wins.

5. What happens when a game reaches 10 10?
If the game is ten all you only get 1 serve. Also the next person to reach 2
points ahead of the opponent player wins the game. This is called a deuce.

6. Copy the diagram below, S= server and R = receiver. In a game of
doubles, where does the ball have to bounce in service?

S

R
7. How can using space help you to be a better net/wall player? Give
examples of when you would use space to beat an opponent in a net/wall
game?
I would hit the ball to the end, to force the player to move backwards and if
he is standing away from the table I would hit more to the front to force him
to move back closer. Also if use my space wisely I can move around and get the
ball.

8. You were given the following statistics about your next opponent in a
tournament

Forehand shots 44 winners 20
Backhand shots 12 winners 3

9. What would your strategy be to try and beat your opponent?
I know that the opponents strength is the forehand and that his weakness is
the backhand so I would try to get the ball into the corner (depending on
which side he is playing) to force him to use the backhand shot. There is a
bigger possibility that he will miss the ball then when I hit the ball so that he
can use the forehand shot.
10. When does the service change to the opposite player?
After you have served two times the opposite player gets to serve two times.
This is not so if the score is 10-10 then you only get one serve and then you
switch. Also if it is a fault the other player derves.

7. The ball is considered out of bounds when:
A. It touches the sideline
B. It touches the end line
C. Hits the ground entirely beyond (outside) the boundary lines
D. All of the above
Answer: When it hits the ground entirely beyond (outside) the boundary lines

8. What happens if you hit the ball into the net on your service?
If it hits the net while you are serving it is called a let if it hits the net while you
are in the game and still goes over the net you keep on playing but if it hits the net
and bounces back during a game it is point for the opponent player.

5. Which stroke is represented in the picture?
A. Backhand push
B. Forehand push
C. Forehand Drive
D. Backhand drive

Answer: C. Forehand Drive

6. Describe how you should stand when playing the above shot; you may use
diagrams to explain your answer.

You have to stand slightly more than shoulder with apart. If you are left-handed your
right foot should be in front and the other away around if you are right handed. Have
your knees slightly bent. You have to move a little in front.

7.

From the picture above, states, which serve this, is in table tennis and give one
teaching point concerning how you can successfully perform this shot.

Forehand Topspin Serve You should throw the ball in the air then you have to hit it so
it bounces in your side of the table and then to the opponents side of the table. The
ball is not allowed to hit the ball or go of the playing surface

8. In the diagram of a table-tennis court below:
Mark an X where you would aim to send the ball on the opposition side?
Explain your reason

X

I would hit it in the corner and at the end because the opponent player would have to
move to the side and move back. If he stands to close he probably would miss the
ball. I would do this to make it harder for the other player and to get points and win
the game.

10. From the two pictures above, state, which shot it is and describes the difference
in the follow through between these two techniques:

It is the backhand shot and the forehand shot. In the backhand shot you use the
black part of your bat. You have the arm in the inside in front of you. In the
forehand you use the red part of your bat. And you push your arm away from you.

12. Why is it important in table- tennis /tennis or any netball games to keep the
ball/shuttle away from the middle of your opponents court?

Because if it arrives in the middle of the court it is easy for the opponent player to
hit back so you should avoid hitting the ball a lot to the middle of the court so that
the opponent player has a harder job of getting the ball.

13. After hitting a table tennis or tennis game where on your court should you
try to return and why?
I dont get what you mean in this question.
