SCOPE

This Guide covers the minimum requirements for controlled-volume pumps, including packed-plunger and diaphragm pumps. However, diaphragm pumps using direct mechanical actuation are excluded. 2. REFERENCES

The following Guides and publications are referred to herein:

API (American Petroleum Institute) Standard: Std 675 Positive Displacement Pumps Controlled Volume, 1980

3. GENERAL 3.1 Controlled-volume positive displacement pumps shall conform to API Standard 675 except as modified in Section 4 of this Guide. 3.2 The vendor shall comply with the requirements of EGE 00-C-4, as well as the specific requirements of API Standard 675 as amended in Section 4 of this Guide. 3.3 In case of conflict between API Standard 675, this Guide, and EGE 15-D-12(a or b), the data sheet shall govern. 3.4 All equipment covered by this Guide shall meet the applicable noise levels established in EGE 00-B-5 without the use of acoustical enclosures.

4. MODIFICATIONS TO API STANDARD 675

MOBIL ENGINEERING GUIDE EGE 15-B-12 1982

PAGE 2 OF 4 APRIL 1982

The following items are amendments to API Standard 675. The section and paragraph numbers refer to those given in that standard.
SECTION 2 BASIC DESIGN

Paragraph 2.1.2 (Substitution)

All equipment shall be designed to run safely to the specified relief valve pressure setting, plus 15 percent.

Paragraph 2.1.3, Second Sentence (Substitution)

The arrangement of the equipment, including piping and auxiliaries, shall be developed jointly by the purchaser and the vendor.

Paragraph 2.1.6 (Addition)

Multihead pumps shall be capable of being maintained without the need to dismantle any other head.

Paragraph 2.2.4.2 (Addition)

It shall be possible to dismantle parts without the need to remove the studs.

Paragraph 2.3.1 (Substitution)

Inlet and outlet connections shall be flanged or threaded, oriented as specified in EGE 15-D-12, and suitable for maximum working pressure. Maximum working pressure is defined as "the highest pressure which can occur in the pump when passing the full capacity through its relief valve with an accumulation of not more than 15 percent above the maximum set pressure."

Paragraph 2.3.2 (Addition)

Threaded connections are permitted only on connections 1 in. NPS (nominal pipe size) and smaller.

Paragraph 2.3.4.2 (Addition)

They are not acceptable if the maximum working pressure exceeds 2070 kPa, gage (300 psig).

Paragraph 2.5.5 (New Paragraph)

The maximum allowable speed shall be 100 strokes per minute.

Paragraph 2.6.2 (Addition)

Jacketed housings shall be designed for a working pressure not less than 517 kPa, gage (75 psig).

Paragraph 2.8.1, Second Sentence (Modification)

Change relieve valve set pressure to 15 percent.

APRIL 1982 PAGE 3 OF 4

EGE 15-B-12 1982

Paragraph 2.8.2, Second Sentence (Substitution)

Relief valves shall be supplied by the vendor and shall be capable of passing the full capacity with an accumulation of not more than 15 percent above the set pressure.

Paragraph 2.10.4 (New Paragraph)

The drive enclosure shall have means whereby the quantity of lubricant can be measured without stopping the pump.

Paragraph 2.12.1, First Sentence (Substitution)

Antifriction bearings shall have a minimum L-10 life of 25,000 hours when operating at maximum axial or radial loads and rated speed.

Paragraph 2.13.1 (Addition)

A mesh-enclosed, constant-level oiler shall be provided when splash or submerged lubrication is supplied. The correct oil level shall be marked on the body by means of an 18-8 stainless steel plate.
SECTION 3 MATERIALS

Paragraph 3.5.2 (Substitution)

Repair of cast iron casings by plugging is not allowed.

Paragraph 3.10 (Substitution)

Pumps handling any of the following shall have casings of steel or alloy steel: (a) (b) (c) (d) Hydrocarbons. Liquids at temperatures of 177C (350F) or higher. Liquids with a discharge pressure of 1725 kPa, gage (250 psig) or higher. Flammable, corrosive, or toxic liquids with: (1) Vapor pressure exceeding 96.6 kPa, gage (14 psig) when measured at the pumping temperature or 38C (100F), whichever is higher. (2) Specific gravity less than 0.825 with a maximum discharge pressure in excess of 103.5 kPa, gage (15 psig).
SECTION 4 ACCESSORIES

Paragraph 4.1.2 (Substitution)

Motor drivers shall be in accordance with EGE 33-B-9. The motor shall be rated (exclusive of service factor) for continuous pump operation with total flow through the relief valve and a 15 percent pressure accumulation. Motor ratings shall not be less than the following:

Motor Rating kW Up to 18.6 22.4 to 56 Above 56 hp Up to 25 30 to 75 Above 75

Paragraph 4.1.4 (New Paragraph)

Drivers shall be furnished and shop mounted by the pump vendor.

Paragraph 4.2.3 (New Paragraph)

The coupling shall have a minimum application factor of 1.25.

Paragraph 4.4.8 (New Paragraph)

The driver shall have shims under its feet, 3 mm (1/8 in.) minimum to 6 mm (1/4 in.) maximum.
SECTION 8 VENDOR'S DATA

Paragraph 8.2.3.1 (Substitution)

The vendor shall provide a completed "as built" EGE 15-D-12.

Paragraph 8.2.3.4, Second Sentence (Substitution)

The manual shall include legible drawings (of sufficient quality for microfilming) for the specific equipment, including a parts list and a completed "as built" EGE 15-D-12.

Paragraph 8.2.3.6 (New Paragraph)

The data shall be in the language and units specified by the purchaser.
