1.0 Site
The Wind farm capacity is of 375 X WW 53 (300 MW) comes near District Kayathar town. The
wind farm stretch ranges approx. 65 kms in length. Mostly Chettikuruchi_Windy site are of
Private cum table top hilly terrain. The approach road to the site is the road connecting
Kayathar and Kadambur. The nearest Highway is State highway, which passes approximately
25 kms from this vicinity i. e. Kayathar has also connectivity through Railway & Road
Transportation.

2.0 Preamble about the site:

The capacity of wind farm is 300 MW (375 x WW 53 / 75m) each of @ 800 kW WTG.
The wind farm is of 65 km of wide stretch and most of the lands are Tabletops.
There is one Proposed 400/230 kV, 2*315 MVA & 400/110 kV 5*200 MVA Trafo`s Kayathar
(TANTRANSCO) Sub-station in the surrounding area & 230/110 kV, 3*100 MVA Trafo`s
Kayathar existing substations includes like Annupankulam, Veeranam, Abhishekpatti (PG),
Udhyathur & Sankaneri which are at a distance of 40 Km from Wind farm.
The approach road up to the wind farm available.
The 11 kV network of utilities emanated from 230 kV TNEB Sub stations around the sites are
very good due to load centres.

3.0 Existing network & proposed network.

Near to the proposed site of Chettikuruchi - SW TANTRANSCO major Sub-station are
230 kV Annupankulam, Veeranam, Abhishekpatti (PG), Udhyathur & Sankaneri Sub
Station respectively.
The conductor used for 230 kV lines are Zebra & for 11 kV line it is Dog.

The existing 230 kV line interconnectivity in this region is as follows

230 kV lines are
230 kV line from Kayathar to 230 kV Bus of Abhishekpatti S/s.
230 kV line from Kayathar to 230 kV Bus of Udhyathur S/s
230 kV line from Kayathar to 230 kV Bus of Sankaneri S/s.
230 kV line from Kayathar to 230 kV Bus of Veeranam S/s
230 kV line from Kayathar to 230 kV Bus of Annupankulam S/s.

As per the present available data there is no major augmentation work is under
process by TANTRANSCO in this vicinity.

4.0 Proposed evacuation:

For evacuation, network has been studied to evacuate on 230 kV Grid Network.
There is a 230 kV Substation available nearby site at Kayathar (TANTRANSCO)
Abhishekpatti and Kayathar, hence the study has been aimed to evacuate on 230
kV voltage level from the proposed site.

As per TANTRANSCO approved scheme the entire 300 MW generated power shall
be evacuated through following Schemes
a) Construction of 230 kV Sub-station of 1*100 MVA, 230/33 kV capacity as per
TANTRANSCO specification.
b) By radially connecting of WWIL Chettikuruchi S/s with the 230 kV D/c line to
TANTRANSCO 230/400 kV Kayathar (TANTRANSCO) S/s a distance around 25 Km
using Zebra Conductor (0.4 ACSR).

5.0 Power Collection Network & Design (Internal wind farm design)

Preliminary Evacuation & Power Collection
Report on 300 Mw Chettikuruchi & Kadaumbur site

WIND WORLD INDIA LTD, MUMBAI

The generated power from each WEG is of the order of 400 V will be stepped up to
33 kV using Tower Mounted Unit Transformer and such WEG will be interconnected
without overloading sub-evacuation line. Such discrete power shall be collected at
33 kV level.

Internal Wind farm design has been carried out with 33 kV voltage level due to the
main criteria while designing the 33 kV transmission network is to reduce
Transmission loss & Voltage Regulation. The major constituents of the
transmission network are:
Conductor
Support structures
Insulators

Of these, the important component is the conductor. Various factors influence the
selection of type and size of conductor.

Factors deciding the choice of conductor:
Amount of power to be transmitted
Distance of transmission
Current carrying capacity of the conductor
Resistance of the conductor

Tensile strength
Unit Weight
External adverse climatic conditions
Cost involved

With the factors narrated above it is important to note that to have an optimal
design for the 33 kV over head lines in the Wind farms, there is a wide selection of
conductors which has to be used judiciously in order to achieve technically optimal
solution.

The main criteria while designing the 33 kV transmission network is to reduce
Transmission loss & Voltage Regulation. To achieve this, Load flow study of the
entire Wind farm will be conducted to simulate the real scenario.

In Power system studies, the electrical load flows in the transmission network are
simulated using different combination of conductors and the transmission loss,
conductor loadings and voltage regulations are determined.

To carry out these studies, ETAP - 12 software package developed by M/s. ETAP
AUTOMATION (P) LTD, California, USA for Power System studies is used. All kinds
of major grid networks can be represented. Using ETAP - 12 software Load-Flow,
Short-Circuit; Transient and voltage instability can be Studies. ETAP-12 is well
accepted and approved by IEEE & is used in most of the State Electricity Boards,
CTU and many major industrial houses.
