Creative Spirit Art Gallery presents
Morgan’s unique body of artwork, with its timely
“Body” commentary on our jaded culture of consumerism,
utilizes discarded store mannequins as a ground for
Featured Artists: his beautifully layered decoupage. The
“repurposed” and recycled artworks tie into a global
Keith Theriot & trend away from consumption and glow with layers
of color and newsprint and take on a monolithic
M. Scott Morgan quality into which multiple metaphors can be read.

 MEMBERS IN THE…

Elisabeth Ferber will have
work appearing in several pub-
lications this fall, including two
paintings appearing in a book
titled “Along the Wekiva” by
Jim Robison. She will also be
the cover artist for the Novem-
ber issue of Winter Park Maga-
zine, which will also feature an
article about her. In addition,
she will appear in the book
“Best of America – Oil Artists,
Volume II,” which is being
published through Kennedy
Publishing and due out in No-
vember. A sampling can be

Elisabeth also participated in a
couple of paintouts, including
“Painting the Region” near
Jacksonville October 6-10th and
the juried Crescent Beach/St
Augustine paintout October
24th thru Halloween. She was
successful in selling a couple of
paintings there and was also
commissioned by Stetson Ken-
nedy, author of the books
“Klan Unmasked” and “Grits
and Grunts,” to do a painting
of his house along the Belutha-
hatchee River.
She currently has two paintings
on display for the show
“Central Florida Landscapes” at
the Sanford Historic Center
along Main Street in Sanford.
Arlene Kartak’s silk painting
titled “Starry Skies” won first
prize in the latest Fourth Friday
event in Sanford and will be on
display until January at the
Historic Sanford Welcome Cen-
ter. She also had a watercolor
in the most recent show spon-
sored by the Central Florida
Watercolor Society at the Cas-
selberry Art House.
Marianna Ross will conduct a
Figurative Workshop at Mait-
land Art Center on Saturday
January 16, 2010, from 9:30 to

Michael Sullivan brought the meeting to order. We welcomed one new member and a num-
ber of announcements were made:
• Call for artists at the Casselberry Art House for a show in March 2010. Reception Friday
night, 3/5/10. Arlene Kartak is coordinating the effort. Please call 407-834-6388 for fur-

• Discussed the goal of going “green” and getting all members onto email or blog for news-

MASTER TIPS:
John Singer Sargent was well known for his portraits and landscapes painted in lus-
cious colors and brushstrokes. He advised artists to:
• Do lots of sketches—the more the better!
• Draw from life as much as possible.
• Use thick paint! (Hard to do with the price of paint, I know, but “you can’t take it with
you,” so have fun!)
• Paint from halftones.
″If you begin with the middle-tone and work up from it towards the darks so
that you deal last with your highest lights and darkest darks, you avoid false ac-
cents.″
• Copy the masters. It’s been said before by countless “masters”, but definitely worth
repeating.
• Step away from the canvas frequently to review your work.
