Municipal Tax Rate Bylaw No.

2210
Council adopted Municipal Tax Rate Bylaw No. 2210, which
will see the City collect 3% more in tax revenue.
This tax rate increase means an additional $23.47 per
$100,000 of assessed value for the residential rate class, an
additional $63 per $100,000 for the business rate class, and
$340 per $100,000 for the major industry rate class.
The City receives 39% of its tax revenue from the residential
class, 26% from the Business class, 23% from Major Industry,
and 12% from other rate classes (Light Industry/Utilities/Farm
Rec-Non Proft).
Presentation of New City of Williams
Lake Website
Staf presented the new City website at www.williamslake.
ca to Council. The new website is easier to use, allows for
greater user interaction and features a new clean, crisp
design. The website ofers the following features:
The ability to register on the website and participate in
Community Voice discussions about City initiatives
The ability to take advantage of online fnancial services,
such as claiming the Home Owners Grant, access current
property tax information, and pay property taxes and
utility bills
The ability to customize notifcations from the City (News
items, career opportunities, meeting agendas, City events)
A Media Centre featuring City videos and multimedia
September Orange Shirt Day Plans
Phyllis Webstad of the Orange Shirt Day Committee
gave Council an update on Orange Shirt Day activities
for September 2014, which include identifying an Orange
Shirt Day champion, a National Assembly of First Nations
resolution, and registering Orange Shirt Day as part of the
national Culture Days volunteer movement. Orange Shirt
Day will be again celebrated up to and including September
30, 2014.
Orange Shirt Day is becoming a international movement
to recognize the harm the residential school system did
to childrens sense of self-esteem and wellbeing, and as an
afrmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone
around us matters.
Fleet Management Plan
Council directed staf to perform a feet assessment and
report back with a Fleet Management Plan for consideration
prior to 2015 budget considerations.
Audited Financial Statements
Roger Solly of PMT Chartered Accountants spoke about the
2013 audited fnancial statements presented to Council.
Council received the statements as information.
2014 Stampede Parade
Council approved the Annual Williams Lake Stampede
Parade on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. The theme this
year is Brought To You by The Number 4 and The Letter H.
Bike to Work Week
Jane Wellburn of the Williams Lake Williams Lake
Environmental Society and Air Quality Roundtable spoke to
Council about the Bike to Work Week initiative.
Council proclaimed the week of May 26 to June 1, 2014
as Bike to Work & School Week in the City of Williams
Lake, and encouraged to the community to register and
participate in the bike to work and school challenge
and attend the wrap-up celebration at the Oliver Street
Farmers Market the evening of Friday, May 30, 2014. More
