After installing Bootleg, issues involving bugs or user
error could have potentially occurred.
Please read the Frequently Asked Questions before

Step 1: Read, download, and run the latest version of FF7 Game Converter.

Step 3: Open Bootleg040.zip and extract it to a non-system folder, e.g.

Right-Click on "Bootleg.exe"
Select "Properties"
Go to the "Compatibility Tab"
Check "Run this program as an administrator"
Click "Apply", then "OK".

Turn OFF Windows UAC: How To Turn Off UAC
Step 5: Selecting your mods.
Open BFE.exe.
You can automatically setup your mods by clicking on "Presets" in the menu bar
and selecting one.
OR
You can manually setup your mods by using a check-box or drop-down menu.
(Recommended)

You can load my settings (EQ2Alyza) from the torrent in STEP 7.

I'm confused. What do some of these mods do?
Tifa's Package: Mod Details for Bootleg Configurator
Step 6: Now click on the menu bar "File --> Mod List" or the blue button
labeled "Mod Listing" to the right.
Step 7: You will see a big list with all the mods supported for Bootleg. Each
mod shows a brief description of its use underneath, along with a download link
to the right.
What do the colors mean?
GREEN
These are mod files required for your configuration and are placed properly into
your "Installation Tab --> Mod Source" folder.
RED
These are mod files required for your configuration but are not yet placed
properly into your "Installation Tab --> Mod Source" folder.
Do not press "Run Bootleg" if you have any mods in red.
YELLOW
These are mod files not required for your configuration.
ORANGE
These are alternate mod files to a mod listed in red. If these are downloaded, the
primary red is not required and will change to yellow.
Step 8: Start downloading every mod colored in RED.

TIP: Place your downloaded mods into the same folder as Bootleg, e.g.
C:\Games\FF7Mods
Some mods have more than one different listing. Which should I use?
Choose one of them. You don't need both. Once you download one of them, the
others will turn yellow like the image example below.

I have downloaded all the mods, but they still show as red. What's
wrong?
The Installation tab isn't configured correctly.
Point "Destination Location" to the folder the game's installed.
Point "Mod Source" to the folder with the downloaded mods.
Point "Bootleg.exe Location" to the folder with the Bootleg files.
Point "Temporary Files" to anywhere with at least 20GB of hard drive space.
(Example)
Step 9: Once you have downloaded all the red/orange colored files, your mod
list should be entirely yellow and green and are now ready to install.
IMPORTANT: Disable any Anit-Virus and Firewall software. Sometimes Internet
Browsers can cause a halt, so closing them may be needed.
Click the red button labeled "Run Bootleg" to the right.
Step 10: Almost done!
The first window that will pop-up will be the Final Fantasy VII Configuration
v1.02.
Click the "Graphics Tab" to enable Aali's Custom Graphics Driver.
Next, click the "Sound Tab" and select your primary sound device under the
drop-down menu.
Leaving this blank will cause the game unable to start.
When installing Gjoerulv's Hardcore Mod for your Difficulty, click "Pick install
folder" first.
Then click the big "PATCH" button, wait for 100% complete, and click "Close"
afterwards.
Always select Original (1997). ALWAYS.
When installing Menu Overhaul, there may be a few text documents that pop up
which will give "error" reports.
These are normal and can be ignored.

When installing FF7Music, PSF is the original Playstation music and
OSTRemastered is the Playstation score reworked with more modern
instrumentation.
After installing, uncheck "Run FF7" and click "Finish".
Step 11: Configuring FF7 Bootloader
Here are some previews for it:

NOTE 1: Always click the blue "Write CFG" button in the top-right to save your
configurations. This must be done before closing the Configure window.
NOTE 2: You HAVE to run the game from FF7 Bootloader to get the fully modded
effects! Click the "Play FF7" button to launch the game.
TIPS:
"Preserve Aspect" turns on/off the widescreen stretching.
Under the "Post-processing shader" menu, Complex Shaders are only used for
Radeon Graphics cards.
"Postprocessing", "Max Lights", and "Post-processing shader" work in congruent
with each other. Having them all on/off simultaneously is recommended.

1. Please post specifically what is happening when
you run into your issue(s).
2. Please post your APP.LOG report, which is found
in the game's installation folder.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this work with Intel HD Graphics?
No, they don't support enough video RAM. There will be frequent crashing and/or
freezing throughout the game.
I have a dedicated Nvidia GPU, but it will only launch the game with
Intel HD Graphics.
Go into the Nvidia Control Panel and set a profile for ff7.exe. Then set the Nvidia
GPU to run for that profile.
I don't like XYZ mod. Can I just run Bootleg again with something
else selected?
No, you cannot. Many of the mods will alter the main files of the game, and
uninstalling does not revert back to their original file structure. You will need to
start over to change or try a new mod.
1. Uninstall FF7Music via Windows Control Panel.
2. Uninstall the game via Windows Control Panel.
3. Clean your registry using this tool: HERE
4. Delete the old installation folder completely. It will have junk files leftover
from modding, and installing back into will cause a nightmare.
5. Install the game and start modding again.
When I click Play, a black command box appears briefly, and then
closes. Nothing else happens after that.
1. Open FF7Config.exe.
2. Navigate to the Sound tab and choose a sound device. If it's left blank, the
game won't launch.
When I run Bootleg, I get a message that says "Access Denied.
Installation Aborted!".
1. Right click "My Computer" and select Properties.
2. Scroll down to "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings" and
click on Change Settings.
3. In the Advanced tab, click on Environmental Variables.
4. Under "System variables" find the variable named Path, highlight it, and
click Edit...
5. "Variable value" should have a long string of directories. Add
%SystemRoot%\System32; as the first entry.
FF7Config.exe crashes when it tries to open.
This often happens with laptops featuring Nvidia Optimus.
1. Right-Click on your My Computer and select the "Manage" option.
2. Navigate to Event Viewer -> Windows Logs - > Application.
3. Find the Error that is associated with FF7Config.exe.
4. The "Faulting module path" shows which .dll created the error and where
its located.
5. Google and download that .dll file and replace it in that same location.
If Windows is being a poo face and not giving permission to copy the file, then
try this:
1. Right-click My Computer and select "Manage"
2. Navigate to "Local Users and Groups -> Users"
3. Right-click Administrator and select "Properties"
4. Type "Administrator" as the full name.
5. Check "Password never expires"
6. Uncheck "Account is disabled" and "User cannot change password"
7. Click "Apply", then "OK"
8. Right-click Administrator and select "Set Password"
9. Set the password as "Windows SUCKS" (kidding...pick your own ).
10. Log off and log back in as the Administrator, then try copying the file.
FF7.exe crashes when it tries to open.
Check your APP.log and compare it to this one:

If it's identical, then Aali's Custom Driver needs to be set.
1. Open FF7Config.exe.
2. Click on the "Graphics" tab and a message may appear saying "Self-test
passed!"
3. If the message does not appear, set the Renderer as "Custom driver" and

FF7Music isn't playing music in-game.
Some computers don't cope well with the FF7Music installation during Bootleg.
Download and run the following patch from inside your game folder:
FF7_Music_Patch.exe
The FacePalmer field textures don't appear to be working.
To my knowledge, this may only occur with Windows XP users.
1. Download Omzy's FF7 Field Textures.
2. Extract the "field" folder into [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg.
3. Edit "Run FFVII-Bootleg.bat" by removing all /AFFINITY F. Save before
closing.
When I try playing, my screen looks like one of these:

Your AMD Catalyst drivers are not compatible. Uninstall them, then install one of
the following:
AMD Catalyst 13.8 Beta
AMD Catalyst 13.5 Beta2
When I try playing, my screen looks like this:
Your Nvidia 326.19 drivers are not compatible. Uninstall them, then install one of

When I'm in battle, the text for HP/MP/Limit bars is congested and
misaligned
This is because you have installed the "9999 Break" in Bootleg AND checked
"Break Limit 9999" in Bootloader Configure.
1. Open FF7 Bootloader and click Configure.
2. Uncheck "Break Limit 9999"
3. Click "Write CFG" to save.
I can't see the counters for the Shinra Mansion Safe, Junon Parade,
Gaea's Cliff, Rocket Launch Countdown, etc.
1. Make a backup of [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg.
2. Re-install Menu Overhaul with ReTranslation checked.
3. Go to [gamedir]\mods\DK and copy all its contents to
[gamedir]\mods\Bootleg. Overwrite everything when asked.
4. Open up Bootloader Configure and change the Mod Path to "Bootleg" OR
open ff7_opengl.cfg with Notepad and change mod_path = Bootleg. Be
sure to save the file.
5. Play past the counter and save right after.
6. If you don't like the new text, repeat steps 2-4 with ReTranslation
unchecked.
I selected ReTranslation + Canon Names/Items, but the names/items
are still ReTranslated (e.g. Reno=Leno or Phoenix Down=Phoenix Tail).
1. Make a backup of [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg.
2. Re-install Menu Overhaul with ReTranslation and Canon Names/Items
checked.
3. Go to [gamedir]\mods\DK and copy all its contents to
[gamedir]\mods\Bootleg. Overwrite everything when asked.
4. Open up Bootloader Configure and change the Mod Path to "Bootleg" OR
open ff7_opengl.cfg with Notepad and edit mod_path = Bootleg. Be sure
to save the file.
The game crashes after opening the last chest on the 65th Floor of
Shinra HQ.
1. Download this file: HERE
2. Download this tool: HERE
3. Open the UNLGP+LGP tool, point it to the FF7 data folder, and check the
box for "Unlgp flevel.lgp"
4. A new folder will have opened. Put the file from step 1 into the folder and
overwrite. I suggest making a backup of the file first before overwriting.
5. Repeat step 3, but this time instead, check the box for "Rebuild flevel.lpg"
6. Play FF7.
I try to launch the game, but it says "...MountFF7DISC1.bat is
missing."
Rename a Hard Drive or Flash Drive to "FF7DISC1" and assign it's drive letter as
the Data Drive within Bootloader Configure.
I try to launch the game, but it says "Please insert FF7 Game Disc 1,
2, or 3 and try again."
You need to pass the CD Check at the game's launch. Any one may be used:
1. Open FF7 Bootloader Configure and assure that Auto Mount is checked
before starting the game.
2. Open FF7 Bootloader Configure and click the "Mount" button.
A cmd prompt will appear and assign a new virtual drive labeled
FF7DISC1.
In Bootloader Configure, assign that virtual drive letter as the Data Drive.
To get rid of this virtual drive, click "Unmount" or restart your computer.
3. Rename an HDD or Flash Drive to "FF7DISC1" and assign it as the Data
Drive.
I've completed Disc 1, but it keeps asking me to insert Disc 2 to
continue.
1. Download DLPB_Tools.zip
2. Extract the "DLL_in" folder and "Mult.dll" to your game folder.
3. Download FF7anyCDv2.dll.
4. Place "FF7anyCDv2.dll" into the "DLL_in" folder.
5. Add the line load_library = Multi.dll to ff7_opengl.cfg.
Barret is using melee attack animations, even with ranged weapons.
There is an animation bug associated with the Timu+Kleyon+Asmodean battle
model.
1. Download the animation fix: HERE
2. Download this tool: HERE
3. Open the UNLGP+LGP tool, point it to the FF7 data folder, and check the
box for "Unlgp battle.lgp"
4. A new folder will have opened. Extract all the files from step 1 into the
folder and overwrite.
5. Repeat step 3, but this time instead, check the box for "Rebuild battle.lpg"
This process will make a backup called battle.lpg.bak inside the ...\data\battle
folder. You can always revert back to your previous battle models by renaming it
to battle.lpg.

The game runs pretty smooth. My only problem is that the HQ Aeris does not
work properly. Her character model appears but all white without any texture.
How can i fix this?

There are now two options with ReTranslation that allow you to enable/disable
canon character names and canon item names.

question of my own. if i want to change the mods can i change them in the bfe

start with a completely fresh install.

thanks. i think i know what you mean. in the first bombing mission the boss didnt
appear and also on my way out at the first ladder a battle happened and the
scenery was the arena with the green insect thing i thought only appeared
around mideel

EDIT:
If you're encountering the wrong enemies, then it's probably because you've
installed Menu Overhaul ReTranslation with New Spell Name or Aeris Revival.
In Bootleg 0039, don't use ReTranslation with New Spell Name or Aeris Revival.
To fix broken models, you'll need to reinstall FF7 and rerun Bootleg.

i did do that. but i never had 0038.

Ok the game works with patch now,but the first FMV dont not show,stay in black
screen and after barret say new comer folow me,i have to press menu for show
image game.anny ideas why?thx
