PERIOD 2
NYC PROJECT !

While completing the project in the different modes of transportation, it made me
realize that there is a lot of factors that you have to think of. To make your decision
process easier, you have to think about the time, the cost of the way to want to travel
there, you have to include the times of each possibility. You have to remember that you
are on a budget of just $500.00, so in my opinion, I would not mind being cheap. You
also have to think about what different companies has the better deals has for you and
your pocket.
For the air travel, I went on Kayak to look at the different options I had. I looked
at two different companies; Delta and American Airlines; and it made me realize that I
had to choose between saving money or if I wanted to get there faster. I chose Delta
because it was $13.00 cheaper, and it also saved me 17 minutes. The total coast of air fare
is $130.00 including the ticket, taxes/fees and luggage fee. The total travel time is 4 hours
and 13 minutes, from JFK to Spring St. is 19.6 miles and it will take 1 hour and 22
minutes. I would then public transportation to Jamaica Station which is $6.00, then get on
Sutphin Blvd subway for $2.75 and get off at Spring Street. The Total trip cost, including
ground transportation, to/from my friends house is $277.50. For the Rail Travel, I would
go from Washington Union Station to New York Penn station, which would take a total
cost of $98.00and total time of 7 hours and 22 minutes. When I got off the train, I would
walk to her house because it will only take 43 minutes. If I took the bus, the company I
picked was the Greyhound which had a total cost of $41.00 and a total travel time of 12
hours and 5 minutes. After I got off the bus, I would walk to her house because it is only
0.8 miles away and would only take 17 minutes to get there. If I would to travel by car,
the total distance I would have to travel is 550 miles, total time of the round trip would be

9 hours and 4 minutes. I would only have to pay just one toll at the I-78E which would
cost $5.85, finally the total cost of the round trip would be $150.43.
The choice I made out of all mode transportations that would be best for my trip
was to take the Rail Travel using Northeast Regional, From Washington Union Station to
New York Penn Station. I am a young adult and still a student that does not have money
to blow, so I have to think smart. The tickets for there and back home would only cost me
$98.00. The distance From Penn station to Spring Street is only 2.2 miles apart, so if I
walked there, it would only take 43 minutes. I am fine with walking because my legs
would probably be aching form me sitting on the train for 3 hours and 25 minutes, plus I
could use the exercise. Plus from being on the train, I would love to breathe the fresh air.
Besides getting the exercise and fresh air, I would be saving money instead of spending
money on a cab or public transportation.
