Magnesium Chloride (MgCl2)
Magnesium Chloride is a salt with typical halides that are soluble in water (Emsley). The
element was discovered in 1755 (Anne). Another name for Magnesium Chloride is Magnesium
dichloride (Newton). Magnesium Chloride was founded by Joseph Black (Emsley). It was found
in ancient sea beds. Magnesium chloride is used for multiple purposes.
Magnesium Chloride was discovered not only by Joseph Black but Sir Humphrey Davis
and Antoine Bussy (Emsley). Joseph Black recognized it as an element. However, Davy isolated
the element in 1808 and Bussy prepared it in coherent form (Emsley). Magnesium chloride was
found in ancient sea beds in the Zechstein sea area in Northwest Europe (Dean). Magnesium
chloride is crystals or colorless flakes with no odor (Sircus). Chlorine is a yellowish-green dense
smelly gas (Newton). It has a melting point of one hundred eighteen degrees Celsius. Magnesium
chloride is used in medical iodine (Sircus). It is used for roads, fertilizers, fire extinguishers, and
many more. However, it is used more for ice on the roads (Sircus). Magnesium chloride is
assimilated and metabolized in the body.
Magnesium chloride can be made with Hydrochloric acid and Magnesium hydroxide.
Hydrochloric acid is when hydrogen, chlorine, and water are mixed together (Anne). Magnesium
chloride is a colorless and odorless compound. Magnesium hydroxide is used for antacids and
laxative (Sircus). Magnesium has a positive charge of two which means it loses two electrons.


Meanwhile, Chlorine has a negative one charge which means it gains one electron. However,
they have opposite which mean they attract each other. When Magnesium and Chlorine combine
together they create an ionic bond. An ionic bond is an attraction between a cation and anion.
This compound is used for many benefits in health. Magnesium chloride is a supplement
synergistic treatment used with iodine in the medical field (Sircus). It has toxins and stagnant
energies in body tissue which draws them out of pores with in the skin (Sircus). Chloride
produces gastric acid within the body as a digestive supplement (Sircus). Doctors use
Magnesium chloride as a supplement for the nerves and muscles. To get magnesium chloride for
your body it has to prescribe by a doctor. However, there are side effects of taking Magnesium
chloride such as: breathing problems, swelling of your face and you can break out into hives
(Dean). Creating Magnesium chloride can be dangerous (Anne). There are safety tips you must
follow before making the compound such as: protective clothing, a long sleeved shirt, rubber
gloves and safety googles when constructing Magnesium chloride (Anne).
Magnesium chloride is a very unique compound. It is used for various reasons as it is
stated above. The ancient sea beds led to the discovery of Magnesium chloride. It was Davy who
actually figured out the compound. As, told before it is used for many purposes in nature. The
compound is made between the elements magnesium and chlorine. The things in nature are part
of our daily lives today. However, Magnesium chloride shows that elements put together can
make things better.
