(formally NEAO) PRESENTS The First Nation, Metis & Inuit Education Association of Ontario (formally NEAO), the Provincial Subject Association for teachers of First Nation, Metis & Inuit Studies and Native Languages will be facilitating four summer institutes this summer in: Sudbury, Ottawa, Toronto and London for any teacher interested in culturally relevant Aboriginal pedagogy.
"Ishpi-Gikendaassowin" - Higher Learning: Infusing Aboriginal Cultures into the Classroom
Elementary Workshops K-6: Learn how to infuse authentic teaching of First Nation, Mtis and Inuit (FNMI) cultures and histories into any K- 6 classroom through cross-curricular modules that support traditional knowledge, oral history, and Traditional and Contemporary Aboriginal Arts as a way to promote student well being. Strong links to the (2013) Revised Social Studies, History and Geography Curriculum will be shared throughout. July 8 10 Toronto July 21 23 Sudbury
Secondary Workshops 7-12: Come explore strategies, resources, and community contacts that support the authentic teaching of First Nation, Mtis and Inuit (FNMI) cultures and histories. Experience ways to infuse traditional knowledge, oral history, and Traditional and Contemporary Aboriginal Arts into your classroom. Strong curriculum links are made to First Nation, Mtis and Inuit Studies, the Social Sciences, Canadian and World Studies and the Humanities. July 16 18 Ottawa July 29 31 London
*Open to any teacher from publically funded boards *Facilitated by experienced educators and members of the local First Nations, Mtis and Inuit communities in each location. *Regional Elders & Aboriginal Arts persons will be present at each workshop territory *Resource packages and local contacts in the Aboriginal Communities will be provided.
A registration fee of $50 covers workshop materials, on-site meals and two nights of shared accommodation. Participants may also be eligible for a transportation subsidy. This $50 fee will be reimbursed upon successful completion of a workshop.
