Future World Map

Jose Herrera, Elijah Hollings, Jarrett Powers

ABSTRACT
Our experiment is about where the tectonic plates will be in 600 million years. What we
found out is 600 million years from now the worlds oceans and continents will be way different!
When we were finding out where the boundaries are they are usually the boundaries at
volcanoes, mountains, and trenches, these are good ways of finding boundaries. We found out
that most of the continents will be together with other continents like South America and Africa.
We used the world map, calculations, colored pencils, rulers, and scissors.
PROCEDURES
First, we found the calculations of where the plate boundaries, using the information
given to us, will be in 600 million years. After we found the locations in which the plates will
be, we planted them on our map that we were using. We got the data we have because we used
the velocity formula, which is VelocityTime, an example of this is 1.6 cm/yr. times
600,000,000 yrs. = 960,000,000 mm. , and then divide that by 100,000 which = 6.23cm. We
knew where the mountains should be because where ever the mountains or volcanoes were,
thats where the plates splits. We used the numbers we used because we took the measurements
that we already had from before and multiplied by 600,000,000 and thats how we got the data
we have. We decided to place the plates in those positions because after we got the calculations
we did, we placed them in the places we got after we did calculations.

Most of the differences in the map are continents become one and oceans will not be where they
once were. Like in our world map South America and Africa will be one continent and most of
the oceanic plates will be destroyed like most of the the Pacific Ocean. North America can
move because Africa is stopping it from moving

DISCUSSION
We think that our information is valid but we won't know for sure until we see the results of the
earth in 600 million years. While we were trying to figure out the measurements we were having
trouble finding the right measurements of where the plates would be in the future.
