Choose one environment to design a shoe for:
Rainforest landscape
The rainforest is warm; the average daily temperature is 28 degrees. Bursts of rain fall suddenly
without any warning, and inches of rain fall every day. This makes the ground unsteady and muddy.
Old large tree trunks lay on the floor beside wet green leaves and vines. There are many different
species such as insects, birds and small animals. Edible fruits grow high in the trees.

Desert landscape
The Desert is extremely hot by day; scorching temperatures can soar to 49 degrees. Temperatures
plummet to below zero at night. Insects burrow below the sand and animals take shelter under
rocks. Most are only active at night as the sun is too hot during the day. The only vegetation and
source of moisture are plants protected by prickly spikes.

Polar landscape
The Polar landscape is bitterly cold. In winter temperatures can plummet to -60 degrees. The
landscape is extremely dangerous and changing all the time as ice melts. Craters and glaciers lie
under the surface hidden with light blankets of ice. For much of the winter marine species stay
below the freezing ice, while only mammals stay above it.

Craft knife Safety

Craft knives are extremely sharp and should be used under the close supervision
of your teacher.
They are designed to cut paper or card very accurately.

Check list
Always use a metal ruler when cutting with a craft knife and keep your other hand
far away from the blade.
The blade should always be cutting away from you.
To cut an angle or a curve; keep the blade in the same place only moving the paper.
Always use a cutting mat when cutting paper / card.
Remember to replace the cap on the knife after you have used it.
