Lasers have become widely used in clinical dentistry in recent years. Where they were previously only used in oral surgery, lasers are now commonly used across many dental specialties for procedures like hard tissue cutting and bone surgery. More laser companies are offering more options to dentists to perform more treatments. The American Academy of Periodontology and American Academy of Endodontists have issued statements supporting the use of lasers. This issue of the journal aims to discuss the applications of various laser wavelengths across all areas of dentistry, with the goal of informing dentists on how to immediately incorporate lasers into patient treatment plans.

Every discipline of dentistry has been positively aected by laser technology. From pediatric and operative dentistry to periodontics, prosthetics to cosmetics and implantology, lasers have made a tremendous impact on the delivery of dental care in the twenty-rst century and will continue to do so as the technology continues to improve and evolve.
