Scenario:

Tesco is one of the worlds leading retailers with over 2100 supermarkets, in Europe, US and
South East Asia. The group has interests in grocery, non-food items, financial services and
telecommunications. It is committed to reducing prices for customers and offering the best
value. It seeks to help customers spend less.
Tesco has been particularly successful because of its powerful brand. It has a reputation for
value, low prices and for being customer focused. Its brand equity and associations have
helped the company to expand into new sectors and markets. Tesco has also been strong in
public relations, advertising and building profile in catchment areas on a local level.
Aggressive overseas expansion has helped to keep profits high. The organisation has
expanded into Eastern Europe, emerging nations such as China and South Korea and even the
US, through mid market supermarkets known as, fresh and easy. Its strategy of being
close to the customer has been assisted in the UK specifically, when Tesco developed
different formats for shopping (convenience, metro, express, superstores). It has been the
best retailer for format delivery and obtaining some of the best retail positions.
Intense competitive rivalry within the UK retail market is forcing retailers to look at cost
savings and ways that they can differentiate from competitors. Intense competition between
the large retailers has led to price wars with Asda and Tesco and low price competitor -
Lidlreducing margins for the industry as a whole.Tesco has looked to increasing efficiency
and effectiveness.
It is argued that in all these, the organisations require new skills to survive; the new thinking
is based on complexity and emphasis on people. Thus, Tesco have strategically integrated HR
into their overall plans. Managers utilise aspects of HR in their decision making. This has
shown high commitment to HR, attempting to gain acceptance from all employees, and
offering to all employees basic and extended training (Beardwel, 2004). The big picture of
Tescos strategic direction is discussed with all employees. This helps the individual
employee to understand their role and importance within the organisation. Therefore, they
place a high value on their human resources. There is an increased need for a higher value to
be placed on employees, and therefore get the best performance from the employees. At

chose to live by and drive the business.

Plagiarism Rules and Regulations
o No plagiarism is accepted in assignments and students are advised to do the
referencing correctly according to the Harvard Referencing System.
o Students are advised to submit assignments with a similarity in below 10%. Any
student submitting an assignment with a percentage of more than 20% will fail and
get an official academic warning.
o Reduce your plagiarism by not sharing assignments and doing in text citations of
sources used, using the Harvard referencing method
o Three formal academic warnings will result in your admission being cancelled with
the college - which will mean that you will be reported to the home office, you will
not be refunded and you will have to go back to your home country.
What is Turnitin?
Turnitin is the software that EThames uses to calculate the similarity of your assignment to
any other document submitted in the same system all over the world.
What happens when you submit an assignment on Turnitin?
You submit your assignment on Turnitin by submitting it on Livecampus on the assignment
submission link. Your assignment is then compared with all of the assignments for all the
different units submitted on Livecampus as well as assignments submitted by other students
in other colleges and books and documents all over the world. The report generated is not
the final report. The final report will only be generated after the final deadline which would
mean that once the submission link closes and once every student submitted assignments at
EThames for the specific unit, only then the final report will be generated. This means that if
you have shared your assignment with anybody and they have submitted part of it or the
full assignment the initial report your friend got wouldve indicated the similarity, but your
report wouldve remained unchanged. This is because the report is refreshed every time
that you upload your assignment and then finally after the deadline. After the deadline their
plagiarism will be high as well as your own.
What can you do to avoid getting a high Turnitin score?
Do not copy pieces of work from any book or website. It needs to be rewritten in your own
words and proper in text citation should be done according to the Harvard referencing
method
Do not share your assignment with any friend, not even to assist them

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is passing off the work of others as your own. This constitutes academic theft and
is a serious matter which is penalised in assignment marking.
Plagiarism is the submission of an item of assessment containing elements of work
produced by another person(s) in such a way that it could be assumed to be the students
own work. Examples of plagiarism are:
the verbatim copying of another persons work without acknowledgement
the close paraphrasing of another persons work by simply changing a few words or
altering the order of presentation without acknowledgement
the unacknowledged quotation of phrases from another persons work and/or the
presentation of another persons idea(s) as ones own.
Copying or close paraphrasing with occasional acknowledgement of the source may also be
deemed to be plagiarism if the absence of quotation marks implies that the phraseology is
the students own.
Plagiarised work may belong to another student or be from a published source such as a
book, report, journal or material available on the internet.
