QUESTION 1
a) Define the scalar and vector quantities and also provide two examples for each
quantity.
b) Knowing that a vector A = 10/' + Qj and a vector B = 2i- 8/

c) A resultant force F = 350 N is necessary to hold the balloon as shown in

a) Three loads and a 8 kN tension are applied to a beam as shown in Figure Q2(a). The
beam is supported by a pin at A and roller at B.
i) Draw the free body diagram of the beam.
ii) By neglecting the thickness of the beam, determine the reactions at A and 6.

b) The two blocks A and B have the weight of 30 kg and 25 kg respectively as shown in
Figure Q2(b). If the coefficients of static and kinetic frictions are 0.40 and 0.3
