I first heard my music in summer of 2011 in Danville, Virginia.

I fell in love with my music when I heard J. Cole.

I connected to it because it was something I could relate to, a smart kid
that likes hip hop and has to deal with stereotypes because hes black.

Genre- New School Hip Hop
This style began in the 2000s when rappers started to fuse with pop
music.
Hip hop influences also found their way increasingly into mainstream pop
during this period mainly the mid-2000s, as the Los Angeles style of the
1990s lost power. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_hop_music)

Introduction
Drake is a new school rapper that receives a lot of publicity.
He was promoted through Sprite, LeBron James, and the NBA.

Rap
Drake is seen as the introduction to the genre of new school hip hop in
2009.
J. Cole started the growth period where he was similar but also different
to where he became a competitor around 2011.
Also around this time Wale was on the rise.
All three talked about women in positive ways but also were respected by
the male population.

Growth
Drake was still the best selling artist of this time.
He is being marketed through the radio by becoming the face of the radio
and mainstream music.
Through releasing singles and doing interviews his second album sold
around 700,000.
Growth
During this period started a competition stage.
Meek Mill- he considered a gansta rapper but the way he tells stories it
catches the eyes of more than people in the hood. He also battle raps
against old rapper and new rapper.
Kendrick Lamar- he is a lyricist with a similar story to J. Cole of a good kid
in a bad city. Through his lyrics he has stated he is trying to the best in the
business.
Maturity
Kendrick Lamar- he is becoming a leader of the genre
his lyrics are deep and his flow is appealing. His first
album was nominated for a Grammy. He also performed
at the Grammys and other award shows. He has been
market along former rapper still producer Dr. Dre
because they both are from compton.
Maturity
Sometimes I look in a mirror and ask myself
Am I really scared of passing away
If it's today I hope I hear a
Cry out from heaven so loud it can water down
a demon
With the holy ghost till it drown in the blood of
Jesus
I wrote some raps that make sure that my
lifeline
Rake in the cent of a reaper, ensuring that my
allegiance
With the other side may come soon
And if I'm doomed, may the wound
Help me mother be blessed for many moons
I suffer a lot
And every day the glass mirror get tougher to
watch
I tie my stomach in knots
And I'm sure not why I'm infatuated with death
My imagination is surely an aggravation of
threats
That can come about
Cause the tongue is mighty powerful
And I can name a list of your favorites that
probably vouch

This genre is still new so the sales of artist has went up and are still going
up.
Also new artist are coming up like Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Childish
Gambino, Rockie Fresh.
In its fifth week at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and sixth week in
the top five of the Billboard 200, Drake's third studio album "Nothing Was
the Same" moves 38,000 copies to cross the million copies sold mark,
according to Nielsen SoundScan. It has now sold a total of 1,029,000
copies in the U.S.
Saturation
J. Cole second album was predicted to sell the same as is first but it
almost double it.
While J. Cole's "Born Sinner" was initially blocked from No. 1 on the
Billboard 200, he celebrates his second No. 1 this week. In its third week
on the chart, "Born Sinner" rises 2-1 with 58,000 sold.

Saturation
This album was J. Coles second album and to me he really did something
most in this genre cant do by writing and producing the whole album
himself.
It was marketed to me through mixtapes he put out before the album to
get people ready.
The target was black males and women, in big and small cities, with at
least $60,000 income.
Born Sinner
This is Kendrick Lamar first album filled with stories of his past and how
he want his future in rap to be.
It was $13
Promoted on iTunes and BET and Social Networks
It was sold at stores and iTunes.
