PMAP 3031 - POLICY LEADERSHIP

Policy Leadership. The course introduces students to leaders from a variety of backgrounds.
These individuals have led organizations in the business, nonprofit, and public sectors. Each will
share his or her perspective on leading an organization through policy changes. Opportunities for
reflection on these presentations will permit students to compare the practice and theory of
policy leadership. special emphasis is placed on ethical issues in leadership.
PMAP 3311 - CRITICAL POLICY ISSUES
!ritical Policy "ssues. This course e#amines a selected number of critical issues in public policy.
The course provides a view of how the processes of public policy operate from agenda setting
through formulation and legitimation to implementation and eventual evaluation with e#amples
drawn from several areas of policy.
PMAP 3411 - CONTEMPORARY PLANNING
!ontemporary Planning. This course introduces the student to the principles, issues, and practice
of urban planning. "t reviews the history of planning, models of the planning process, and issues
in contemporary urban planning practice in several substantive specialties, including
transportation, land use, environmental, and economic development planning.
PMAP 3801 - PUBLIC ADMIN & POLITICS
Public dministration and Politics. $ureaucratic polities and behavior in the political process.
The role of bureaucrats in policy making and implementation agency strategies, relations with
other e#ecutive agencies and with the legislature, the president, the %udiciary and clientele
groups.
PMAP 3831 - GOVERNMENTAL BUDGETING
&overnmental $udgeting. study of fiscal planning and management in the administrative
process, budgetary theory, and the budget process.

PMAP 4041 - POLICY DATA ANALYSIS
Policy )ata nalysis. This course focuses on *uantitative research methods applicable to the
study of public policy. +tudents will be introduced to the use of descriptive statistics as well as to
the development and testing of empirical hypotheses using basic inferential statistical methods.

PMAP 4051 - EVALUATING PUBLIC POLICY
Evaluating Public Policy, This course will survey research methods applicable to the evaluation
of public policy. !ourse topics will cover fundamental techni*ues and practice of program
evaluation for effectiveness in program administration. The course contrasts deductive and
inductive approaches as well as the advantages of using evaluation as a mechanism for program
improvement. The department has designated Evaluating Public Policy as a !T- .!ritical
Thinking through -riting/ course.
PMAP 4061 - INTRO TO POLICY ANALYSIS
"ntroduction to Policy nalysis. Prere*uisites0 Econ 12(3 and Econ 12(4. The purpose of this
course is to introduce students to the principles of policy analysis. The course will consider
concepts such as market failure, public goods, and e#ternalities, as well as other %ustifications for
government involvement. The course will also consider the relationship between public goals
and the design of policy and will survey the use of generic policy tools such as regulation,
markets, and subsidies. These concepts will be presented using practical e#amples involving the
public sector, and students will practice application through problem solving.

The process of death and dying, including the social roles of the dying person, the family, and
those of the hospital and institutional staff5 the social factors influencing death5 social functions
of bereavement5 and problems in coping created by medical technology and longevity.
GERO 4200: HEALTH AND THE OLDER ADULT
This course provides an introduction to physiological aging and the health status of older people
and is designed for non,health professionals who work with older adults. 6ormal aging
processes, age,related changes, and associated health promotion activities will be discussed.

in the management of local government. The course encompasses public administration, political

"ntroduction to the Law for Public and 6onprofit 7anagers. This course provides a broad
overview of the legal issues facing employees of public and non,profit entities. +pecial emphasis
is placed on the legal rules and principles that guide public and nonprofit managers in
administering their respective organizations. The course also considers how laws and regulations
impact current working relationships between government and private concerns.
PMAP 4451 - EC DEVELOPMENT POLICY

e#amples of options available to communities as they plan and finance economic development
activities.
GERO 4610: PSYCHOLOGY O# AGING
Psychological contributions to the understanding, prevention, and treatment of normal and
abnormal changes of later life.
GERO 4$10: GERONTOLOGY INTERSHIP
structured and supervised work e#perience in the field of aging designed to teach students
about current issues of policy and practice and enhance their career development. "n consultation
with faculty and staff advisors, students plan the internship in accordance with their e#perience,
areas of interest, and individual goals.
PMAP 4$41 - INTERNSHIP
"nternship Placement must be approved by the department9s internship coordinator, with faculty
supervision during employment the academic internship provides senior students with
opportunities to broaden and e#tend their foundation knowledge from the classroom to the world
