Vedic literature is not mythology:-

Context:
This part of the Bhagavatham (8
th
Canto: The Churning of the Milk Ocean) is describing the
extraordinary activities, power and the omnipotence of the Supreme Lord. These acts which
are not displayed by any of the person in the recent history of the so called modern world,
makes people to call these literatures as mythology and myth. A dictionary meaning of
mythology is - a collection of myths, especially one belonging to a particular religious or cultural
tradition. And, a myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being
or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation.
But, Vedic literature is not a mythology or a blind faith by some lame or innocent people. Basically,
there are two classes of living entities, one who believe in Vedic literature called the Astika or one
who doesnt believe are called Naistika. The second class of people include people who believe that
the whole world is created by chance, life is nothing but a combination of chemicals, humans
evolved from monkeys etc. They deny the existence of a Supreme god and say that no one had seen
God and also so is the descriptions given in the Vedas like Mount Meru and Mountains of Gold,
Silver, oceans of sugar cane juice as mythology. But, it is actually the other way around.
There are a number of short comings of science which can be perfectly explained by the Vedic
literature. For example, according to materialistic science, the soul is a mythological concept.
Consciousness is simply the result of chemical interactions in the brain. As per vedic literatures, the
soul, is the source of consciousness. If the soul is present in the body, the body displays
consciousness. If the soul leaves the body, consciousness disappears. If, as the materialistic scientists
claim, consciousness comes from chemicals, they should demonstrate this by injecting chemicals
into a dead body and thus restoring its consciousness.
In discussing the origin of the universe, most materialistic scientists favor some version of the big
bang theory. According to this theory, an infinitely small and dense particle of matter suddenly
expanded into the universe as we know it. How such a process could produce all the signs of order
and design we can observe in the universe. There are some many natural calamities like Tsunami
and tornados happening in the world and no one had ever see a anything substantial created out of
these combination or churning of material particles. Instead, the Vedic literature gives an account of
creation, in which creation unfolds under the supervision of the Supreme Lord and subordinate
demigods like Brahma. Thus, for every creation, there is a creator.

Also, the universe described by the Vedic literatures, differs structurally from the universe depicted
by modern science. Many of the structural features of the Vedic universe, such as Mt. Meru, a huge
mountain rising from a plane in the center of the universe, simply arent visible to modern scientific
investigators, because they are beyond the range of the senses of ordinary humans. Just like the
story of the frog in the well. Because the frog was confined to the well, the frogs perceptions were
limited. When told of the existence of the ocean, the frog, which had seen only the small amount of
water in his well, could not imagine such a thing. Similarly, a bacteria living on our bodies could not
imagine that the existence of a thing called a human being, who is thousands or perhaps millions of
times bigger than their size and even though, they are living and surviving on the same body.

The specific scientific theories by the modern science about the origin of life and the universe, is
simply empirical. And, vedic literature once again inform us that the knowledge acquired by
empirical methods is infected with four defects: mistakes, cheating, illusion, and imperfect senses.

Thats why, the best way to acquire knowledge, is to accept knowledge from a person beyond the
defects of the empirical method. That person is the Supreme Lord, who has given us perfect
knowledge in His words, as recorded in the Vedas and transmitted by chains of bona fide spiritual
masters.

While, we are prepared to give scientists credit for anything they could actually accomplish, we
would not give them credit for assertions they could not practically demonstrate. For example,
scientists are fond of asserting that life arose on earth by chemical combination. No one has
observed life arising spontaneously from chemical combination in nature. Nor have scientists
produced life by combining chemicals in their laboratories. The modern day scientists make
propaganda that great progress has been made and that life would indeed soon be produced in
laboratories, Srila Prabhupada refused to accept from materialistic scientists these "post dated
checks."

We reject Darwins proposal that one species transforms into another. There is evolution, as Srila
Prabhupada said, but it is the evolution of the soul through various forms of life, all created by
Krishna. For example, in any city, there are varieties of houses and apartments. According to ones
means, one obtains a certain dwelling. Similarly, God has created millions of species, and according
to a souls karma the soul occupies first one kind of body, then another. The kinds of bodies, once
manifested by the arrangement of the Lord, do not transform. If one species does transform into
another, why do we not see this occurring today?

With regards to Anti-matter, According to nuclear scientists, both matter and antimatter are
destructible. But if something were truly anti-material, it should not be subject to destruction, as are
the anti-material particles observed by scientists in their atom smashers. The true anti-material
entities are described in the Vedas. The soul, for example, is an ever existing particle of
consciousness, emanating from the supreme conscious being, Krishna. The constitutional nature of a
living entity is spiritual or anti-material. And, unless the living entity makes a conscious effort to get
out of this material world by cultivation of spiritual activities, he cannot elevate to the region of anti
material world and he has to suffer the four fold miseries of birth, death, old age and disease and
becomes trapped in the material world and a cycle of birth and death.
Conclusion:
Misguided by modern scientific teachings that deny or downplay the existence of God and the soul,
people engage in material activities that keep one in ignorance of ones true spiritual identity and
keep one from returning to ones original spiritual home. The Vedic literatures give us so many
wonderful activities of the Supreme Lord like, his lifting of Mandara Mountain, holding the mountain
with one hand, carrying it on his back as a tortoise etc. We devotees immediately accept these
descriptions because, as a Supreme Lord, when he is able to make numerous plants float in the air
by his power, why not when he lifts a mountain. There are also many other descriptions like, the
stool of an animal is contaminating but, the cow dung is pure and cow milk is the most nutrient diet.
The modern research corroborates these facts, that Cow dung has many antiseptic properties and
cow milk has all the nutrients required for a health growth. Also, long before invention of Telescope,
the Vedic literature has descriptions of earth and other planets being round and astronomy a science
of Vedas could accurately predict the movement of plants and the stars.
