Course Description

Project management refers to the art, or science, of directing projects. This course covers both the
theory, and actual practice, of how to successfully manage projects. You will review the concepts,
methodologies, and tools of project management as well as its fundamentals: integration management,
costing, quality, collaboration, project life cycles, control, risk management, procurement, and
evaluation.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Understand the organizational issues surrounding project management
Explain the five ongoing processes during a project lifecycle
Understand effective people management for projects, including how to motivate, develop, and
manage teams and resolve their conflicts
Create a project communication plan
Review the scope of a project and plan a project by phase work breakdown
Explain project scheduling and estimating, including the techniques of Gantt charting, PERT,
and CPM

Explain how project risks are identified, prioritized, quantified, and used in decision-making
Describe the key aspects of quality management for a project, including quality assurance and
