The allegory of the upper room of the Gospels (Mark 14: 12-17, Luke 22: 7-14, Acts 1: 13 &

20: 8) is another allusion to the occult anatomy of Man. The prepositional phrasing would indicate that
this refers to a dwelling or compartmentalized location that occupies the head-structure of the
archetypal Man. Indeed, it refers to the higher brain structure known as the neo-cortex. Once again, when
reading the scriptures one should have background knowledge on Middle Eastern culture and custom. An
important clue in the text refers to a man bearing a pitcher of water. In Middle Eastern culture, men did
not fetch and carry water; such a thing was designated as womens work (recall in Genesis 24: 11-16
when Abrahams servant was sent by Abraham to fetch a wife for his son from Abrahams native land. In
verses 13-16, the servant had correctly reasoned that the young women of the city would come to the well
to fetch water because that was the custom of the land and the Middle East is a region strong to tradition,
even to this day). So, this obvious breach of established custom was an indicator to the reader (an initiate
of the Mysteries) of the text that this section should not be subjected to a literal interpretation. The
interpretation to be given to this portion of the text was one to be taken from the readers background in
the esoteric arts. Here, those specific arts would be astrology and the occult anatomy of Man. The man
bearing the pitcher is an astrological reference to the sign of Aquarius. As the tradition of the initiates is
born out of ancient Egypt, we should be reminded that the ancient Egyptians kept extensive and
meticulous records of the histories of the cycles of celestial time. This would be records of equinoxes,
solstices and the Ages (or aeons) of the Zodiac. These are periods, not of temporal or mundane time but
are in reference to periods of eternity, eternal time, or time out of mind. The reference to the man
bearing the pitcher of water is a reference to the Age (aeon or world) of Aquarius. The astrological sign
of Aquarius is depicted as a man emptying out the contents of a large pitcher (vase or urn) of water. The
hieroglyphic sign is two parallel wavy lines atop of each other. Aquarius is the third and highest of the
air signs of the Zodiac. The air signs deal with communication and are mental signs. In the upper
room of the archetypal Man, a communication is to be received from the higher spaces (the celestial
realms). At the present time and in the past, man had not yet learned to dwell (access) in his upper room
(neo-cortex). Man uses less than 5% of his neo-cortex. It is through the use of advanced yoga and
meditation techniques does Man learn to dwell (access) in the upper room. The upper room (or neo-
cortex) represents the Heavens that are within the archetypal Man for Man is made in the image of the
Creator and the Creator and the Creation are not separate things, for the Creator IS His Creation. And as
we know that the heavens are above us, so in Man do the heavens occupy an upper station in his
anatomy. This is the highest or upper most part in our anatomy, the neo-cortex.
The sign, Aquarius, and the Age of Aquarius are partly characterized by the mental realms and latent
powers of the mind. There is a line from the popular song from the rock opera, Hair made popular by
the musical group, The Fifth Dimension, called, "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In [The Flesh Failures]":
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind's true liberation
The song is depicting aspects associated with Age of Aquarius, most importantly, the unfettered
magnitude of the mind. This includes the activation of psychic ability and the talents of extra-sensory
perception, clairvoyance, telepathy, intuition, psychometry, telekinesis, etc. With the activation of these
latent talents, Man is no longer alone in the universe; he will know that he is connected to all. When this
is realized, all minds will be linked, and what one mind knows, all minds will know.
Frequently, the upper room is associated with the first and second chapter of the Book of Acts and
the event of the Passover and the Day of Pentecost which is 50 days (or 7 weeks) after the Passover of the
Last Supper. Initially, the upper room was the place prepared for the Passover meal with Christ and His
12 disciples. This was the location of the Last Supper.
[An interesting side note is the tradition of the relationship between a spiritual teacher and their students
(disciples). This tradition is that of providing food for the students by their master (teacher). It is
understood that the students enter a type of apprenticeship for study with a particular master or spiritual
teacher in order that they may gain access to what that particular teacher or master has to offer. The
allusion or metaphor is that they come to dine on the spiritual feast that he has to offer. In accord with
this, the spiritual teacher provides teachings and studies designed to feed the spiritual appetites of those
who are his/her students. Now to parallel the spiritual food, the teacher also provided a physical meal (a
large communal meal) each day for his/her students. The tradition of providing the daily meal is still
popular amongst the Sufi shaikhs and their students. Some shaikhs not only feed their students daily, but
also the outer community at large as well. This is an example of balance and the hermetic axiom of
correspondence: as above (the spiritual food), so below (the physical meal) Although it was not
consistently mentioned, the Christ provided daily meals for his students, most notably the Passover Last
Supper, the feeding of the multitudes with two fishes and five loaves of bread, the reluctant provision of
the wine at the wedding feast and what about the line in the Lords Prayer that says, give us this day, our
daily bread? Perhaps this line was included in the prayer as it was said during the daily communal meal.]
During the Last Supper, the disciples come to partake of what has been provided by the Christ. Although
the text seems to be in reference to the tradition of the master providing the daily communal meal (give
us this day, our daily bread) for his students, because of the image of the water bearing man which is a
cultural anomaly we are redirected to regard the meal as taking place not in a physical sense. Mark 14:
13 starts out with, And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and
there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
