The circles represent the keys which are to be pres- sed. The texts between them are the texts which should then be displayed. If they are not displayed, then the key was not properly pressed. 3.1 Connecting the electrodes Connect a lux probe (07137.01 or 12107.01) to the diode socket 2 of the instrument. The hand-held measuring in- strument automatically recognizes which probe is connec- ted, but the factor printed on the probe 07137.01 must be entered (see 3.5). 3.2 Power supply Prior to first use, insert a 9 V battery (07496.10) or, alterna- tely, a 9 V Ni-MH accu (07925.02) in the battery compart- ment. To do this, slide the battery compartment cover 12 out sideways. The design of the press stud contacts ensures the correct pole connections of the battery or accumulator. Note: To avoid damage from corrosion, do not leave spent batteries in the instrument. Battery economy switch: The instrument is automatically switched off 60 minutes after the last usage. When the hand-held measuring instrument is connected to the large 3.3 Switching the instrument on and off, display test/function test Press the ON key 11 to switch the in- strument on. The display first shows the number of the internal instru- ment software (e.g. r 1.0) and then the basic settings. The charging condition 7 of the battery or accu- mulator is indicated in the lower left section of the display as one of 5 steps (empty, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or full). To switch the instrument off, press the OFF key 13 in the basic setting (function bar not switched on). In the settings menus, pressing the OFF key calls up the basic settings. In this case, data are not stored. To switch the instrument on and have display and function tests first carried out, press the ON key 11 and the UP key 14 simultaneously. 3.4 Setting the digital displays and the special functions In the basic setting, the small digital display is switched off. Use the CAL key 9 to freeze the measured value currently shown in the large digital display and have it shown in the small digital display for comparison purposes (fixed value, arrow points to HOLD). Use the DOWN key 10 to call up the percentage deviation of the measured value currently shown in the large digital display from the frozen measured value (arrow points to %) Press the HOLD key 15 to freeze the measured value currently shown in the large digital display. Now press the DOWN key or the UP key to call up the individual functions CAL, MODE, SET, AVG, MIN or MAX of the function bar 18 (descriptions of these functions are given below). Press the HOLD key again, in the AVG position, to return the display to the basic setting. 3 + HOLD HOLD / CAL MAX CAL OFF ON ON display 07157.93, the automatic switch-off still functions, even though power is supplied by the large display. The switch-off after 1 hour is only inactive in the operating modes automatic measured value recording and remote control (REMOTE and LINK). 07137.00/3702 ges. Confirm this value, and store the data, by pressing the CAL key. When, during the setting of the re- quired light intensity, no key is pres- sed for a whole minute, the calibra- tion procedure is abandoned and the display returns to the basic setting. The calibration procedure can also be prematurely abandoned at any time by pressing the OFF key. Error message: ERROR c1 appears when a factor smaller than 0.50 or greater than 2.00 is calculated in the calibration process. When there is an error, the display returns to the basic setting without saving the cali- bration data. Storage of the calibration data The calibration data are filed in a special storage. The data remain preserved when the power supply is cut off (switching off of the instru- ment, change of battery). The most common calibration data, i.e. offset (oFS) = 0.0 and calibration factor (cF) = 1, are stored during the production of the instrument. The particular calibration factors which are set can be read off from the small digital display by pressing the HOLD key and the UP key. 3.6 Setting the analog display The display range of the analog dis- play can be optimized by entering maximum and minimum values. Setting the maximum value of the analog display Press the HOLD, DOWN and HOLD keys one after the other, then set the desired maximum value of the ana- log display 4 by pressing the UP or DOWN keys. Press the CAL key to confirm this new value and to store it (update). The display returns to the basic setting (without the function bar). When the HOLD key is pressed instead of the CAL key, the display returns immediately to the basic set- ting (without update). Setting the minimum value of the analog display This is done in an almost identical way to the setting of the maximum value, except for a difference in cal- ling up the minimum value. To do this, press the HOLD key, then the DOWN key twice and the HOLD key again. Please note: The minimum value cannot be set higher than the res- pective maximum value (ERROR lights up). 3.5 Calibrating the lux probes Manual input of calibration data When a calibration factor is given on the probe (lux probe 07137.01), sim- ply enter this: Successively press the HOLD and the UP keys, then press the HOLD key again. CAL and SET light up in the function bar, oFS appears in the small digital display and the factory set offset of 0.0 in the large digital display. This zero value of the probe can be adjusted by using the UP/DOWN keys, but this is only necessary with very old probes (see "automatic calibration"). Mostly, the offset of 0.0 can be con- firmed with the CAL key and cF then appears in the small digital display. Now use the UP/DOWN keys to set the required calibration factor in the large digital display (0.50 < cF <2.00). Confirm with the CAL key. The new calibration data is now sto- red (update) and the display returns to the basic setting. If you press the HOLD key instead of confirming with the CAL key, the display returns im- mediately to the basic setting (with- out update). The lux probe 12107.01 is factory pre-adjusted to a calibration factor of cF = 1. The hand-held measuring in- strument Lux automatically recogni- zes this, so that a calibration is unne- cessary. Automatic calibration When a calibration factor is not given on the probe (e.g. the old lux probe 07024.01), then this must be calculated by the instrument. For this, either a light source of known luminous intensity (e.g. 5 klx) or a second, calibrated lux meter is re- quired. Press the ON and the CAL keys simultaneously for some time when switching the instrument on. The abbreviation oFS (offset) ap- pears in the small digital display. Now completely darken the probe (e.g. with black material). The zero value (offset) of 0.0 (or slightly hig- her with old probes) now appears in the large digital display. Confirm with the CAL key. Lu appears in the small digital display and the value 5,000 klx in the large digital display. This means that the lux meter can be ca- librated by using a 5 klx light source. If necessary, use the UP/DOWN keys to set a different light intensity in the large digital display. Confirm the selected intensity by pressing the CAL key. cF appears in the small digital display. The calibration pro- cess now starts. Allow it to run until the calibration factor shown in the large digital display no longer chan- 4 0,0 CAL CAL oFS CAL cF CAL cF CAL CAL Lu / 0,85 / 5000 / MAX HOLD SET 100.0 / HOLD HOLD ON + HOLD HOLD HOLD CAL oFS CAL 07137.00/3702 3.7 Presentation of maximum, mi- nimum and average values Press the HOLD key, then the DOWN key, one after the other. The abbreviation MAX lights up in the function bar and the maximum va- lues are shown in the large and the small display. Press the DOWN key again. The abbreviation MIN lights up in the function bar and the mini- mum values are displayed. Press the DOWN key once again. The ab- breviation AVG (average) lights up and the average values are dis- played. Press the CAL key to return the maximum and minimum to the last measured values, and to return the display to the basic setting (reset). When the HOLD key is pres- sed instead of the CAL key, the dis- play returns immediately to the basic setting (without reset). The maximum, minimum and aver- age values always refer to the total measuring series, i.e. all values measured since the instrument was last switched on. 3.8 Using the data logger (mea- surement data memory) Manual storage of the current pair of measured values Press the HOLD key twice to store the measured values indicated in the large and small displays in the data logger. The hour glass 17 lights up briefly to indicate that storage has been successfully carried out. When all 250 storage locations of the data logger are full, then the hour glass lights up continually until the storage is completely cleared. This reset of the storage, and also inquiries on free storage locations, are carried out in the SET function (see below). Please note: manual storage is not possible in the REMOTE operation mode (see 3.10). Setting the automatic recording of measurement data Press the HOLD key, then the UP key three times and the HOLD key again. The indication SET and the hour glass light up. Now use the UP/DOWN keys to set the measure- ment interval for the automatic re- cording of measurement data. Enter the hours and minutes in the large digital display and the seconds in the small digital display (e.g. 00:10:00 means that a measurement will be carried out every 10 minutes). The following fixed values can be set: 6,5,4,3,2,1 hours and 50,40,30,20,10,5,2,1 min and 50,40,30,20,10,5,2,1 s. Press the CAL key to confirm the value. With this, the data logger is cleared (250 free storage locations are briefly indicated) and the auto- matic recording of measurement data starts. The data logger is filled (the hour glass lights up briefly each time a measured value is recorded) and the display returns to the basic setting. When the data logger is full, the hour glass lights up permanently. The automatic measurement finis- hes when the data logger is full, or when the instrument is switched off. Free storage locations can be used for manual storage of measured va- lues (see above). A renewed activa- tion of the automatic recording of measured values is always associa- ted with storage clearance, however. Please note: Adjusting the automatic measured value recording is of no avail in the REMOTE operating mode,as the instrument is then re- mote controlled by another hand- held measuring instrument (see 3.10). Clearing the data logger When the data logger is simply to be cleared without starting a new auto- matic recording of measurement data, then do not enter a measuring interval (lines in the large and small digital displays). Press the CAL key. The 250 free storage locations are briefly indicated and the display re- turns to the basic setting. When the instrument is separated from the power supply (change of battery), the data in the data logger remains available. Indicating the number of free stor- age locations When only the number of free stor- age locations is to be displayed, but without clearing the data logger, press the HOLD key, then the UP key three times. The number of free storage locations can then be read off from the large digital display. After approximately 1 minute, the display returns to the basic setting. 5 MIN AVG SET SET MAX - - : - - : - - CAL HOLD HOLD HOLD 00:10:00 / HOLD HOLD HOLD HOLD HOLD HOLD / CAL 250 3 x 3 x HOLD HOLD 3.9 External presentation of measured values Connection to the digital large-scale display Connect the hand-held measuring instrument to the digital large-scale display 07157.93 by means of the RS 232 data cable 07157.01. The four-digit large-scale display always shows the measured value which is currently displayed in the large digital display of the hand-held measuring instru- ment. As the height of the numbers and units is 56 mm, this display can be used even in very large lecture rooms. HOLD 07137.00/3702 Press the HOLD key, then the UP key twice and the HOLD key again. The MODE sign lights up in the fun- ction bar. Press the UP or DOWN key to select the desired remote control mode. REMOTE means, that the recording of measured values will be remotely controlled by ano- ther hand-held measuring instru- ment. LINK means, that the instru- ment itself remotely controls another hand-held measuring instrument. When there is no remote control, neither REMOTE nor LINK light up (default setting). Press the CAL key to confirm the remote control mode which is to be set. When the HOLD key is pressed instead of the CAL key, the display returns immediately to the basic setting without changing the remote control mode. 6 HOLD SET MODE REMOTE LINK 2 x HOLD HOLD / Please note: In the REMOTE operation mode, neither a ma- nual storage of measured value pairs nor an automatic re- cording of measured values is possible, because the in- strument is remotely controlled by another hand-held mea- suring instrument. 4 SPECIFICATIONS Light intensity 4 Measurement ranges 0 to 300 lx, 0 to 3, 0 to 30 and 0 to 300 klx Resolution 0.1 / 1 / 10 / 100 lx Accuracy 3% / 3% / 3% / 5% Sensitivity 10 nA / lx Calibration manually or automatically Calibration factor 0.50 < cF < 2.00 Connection 8-pole diode socket Data interface Type: RS 232 (serial) Baud rate: 9600 bit/s Setting 8 n 1 (8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit) Connection: USB socket, 4-pole Data storage: internal data logger for 250 pairs of measured values Measurement data recording: automatically with a settable measuring interval or ma- nually Power supply: 9 V block battery or 9 V accu- mulator or externally from a large-scale display Display: 40 x 50 mm LCD Analog display: resolution 2% Housing dimensions: 21 x 9 x 4 cm Weight: 250 g with battery 5 ACCESSORIES Sensors: Immersion probe for lux meter, l = 10 m 07137.01 Probe for lux meter, l = 1.5 m 12107.01 Power supplies: Flat cell battery, 9 V 07496.10 Ni-MH accu, 9 V block, Cd free 07925.02 Charger f.
