AWRTSIL

controllablepitchpropeller
installationconsistsofahub,propellerblades,
shafting,hydraulicsandaLipstronicremote
control,aswellasanyfurtheraccessories
neededtomeetthecustomersneeds.
With4-or5-bladedpropellersmadeof
Cunialbronzeorstainlesssteel,ductedornon-
ducted,wealwayshavethemostappropriate
solution.
TherangeofWrtsilcontrollablepitch
propellersstartsatanenginepowerof
approximately500kW,andapropeller
diameterof1000mm,andinprinciplehasno
upperlimit.Thehighestpoweredcontrollable
pitchpropellersofarabsorbs44MW,andthe
largestonehasadiameterof8400mm.
TheWrtsilcontrollablepitchpropeller
ismanufacturedcompletelyin-house.This
meansthattheyarecasted,machinedand
assembledineitherDrunen,theNetherlands,
inRubbestadneset,NorwayorinIndia.
Weaimtobemorethanjustasupplier;we
activelyco-operatewithallpartiesinvolved.
Theresultisacontrollablepitchpropellerwith
thehighestpossibleefciency,limitedand
controlledcavitation,andlowpressurepulses.

WhenaWrtsilcontrollablepitchpropeller
isinstalledtheoptimumpitchsettingforall
possibleoperatingconditionscanbeselected.
Furtheroptionalpitchsettingsarerequired

aredundantpropulsionsystem,inwhichcase
thePTOcanoperateasanelectricmotor(PTI).
Forcertaintypesofdouble-dutyvessels,
liketugs,trawlersanddredgers,Wrtsil
controllablepitchpropellersgivebothbetter
pullandhighershipspeed,becauseadjusting
thepitchmakesitpossibletoabsorbfullpower
bothatlowandhighshipspeeds.
FinallyWrtsilcontrollablepitchpropellers
havehighmanoeuvringanddynamic
positioning(DP)capabilities.Atlowshipspeeds
thecontrollablepitchpropellermakesmore
poweravailablethanthexedpitchpropeller,
andasternthrustiseasilyachievedusingonly
thereversepitchsetting.
WRTSILNOZZLES
Wrtsilpropellerscanbeappliedfor
runninginanozzle.Theadvantageofusing
nozzlescomesfromtheadditionalamountof
thrustthisdevelops.Varioustypesofnozzles
canbesupplied,suchasthestandardtypes
19Aand37andalsotheLIPSHRhigh-
efciencynozzle.Thelatterdelivershigher
thrust(6-8%)bothinbollardandsailing
conditions.TakingfulladvantageofaLIPS
HRnozzlerequiresusingaspecialblade
design.

CONTROLSYSTEM
TheWrtsilcontrollablepitchpropellersare
providedwithcustomizedelectronicremote
controlsystemscoveringawiderangeof
applications.Pitchcontrolwithconstant
enginespeed,andcombinatorcontrolwith
pitchandenginespeedcontrolwithonelever,
areavailableaswellasloadcontrol,running-
upandslow-downprogrammes,andalso
single-levercontrol(Lipsstick).Allcontrols
complywiththelatestelectronicsstandards
andtherequirementsfortypeapprovalsset
byallclassicationsocieties.

Featheringpropellersaresuitablefor
multifunctionshipswhichoperateinsucha
waythatoneortwopropellersareregularly
outofuse.Theyaretypicallyusedforsailing
ships,double-endedferriesorvesselswith
complicatedmissionproles.Wrtsilhas
manyyearsofexperiencewithfeathering
propellers,resultinginadesignwithout
restrictionsinhydrodynamicandpitchsetting
capability.Featheringpropellerscanbe

UNDERWATERBLADEREPLACEMENT

equipment.

Innozzlebladereplacementisafeature
availableforbothD-hubsandE-hubs.This
featuremakeitpossibletoreplacetheblades
withoutdismountingtherudder.
FIVE-BLADEDPROPELLERS

request.Ifthenaturalhullfrequencyisequal
