BUDDHa’s prophecy on the advent of the

maithreya
,My Dear Buddhist Friends

I have collected some information about prophecies with regard to the

appearance of next Buddha, known as The Maithreya who is supposed to appear
to mankind as a another Preacher supposed to have been foretold by Buddha
2500 years ago. If the signs of this Maithriya or translated “Merciful One”, as
foretold in the Buddhist scriptures are correct as noted below, then, please
remember that this Maithriya probably has already arrived and he could well be
our Most Beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), who was sent by Allah as a
.“Mercy” to Mankind and all other creatures

My humble appeal to our Buddhist friends is not to react harshly for this presentation but to examine
the prophesies with a critical eye and educate us if any of the references are false or advise us of any
other versus which may have been omitted here. If they are true please don’t be distressed but be
happy that atleast now you could take up further studies to find out if this Maithriya has indeed
.appeared if so whether it matches Prophet Muhammad

Please note that as far as Muslims are concerned it is not a pre-requisite to have proof from other
scriptures for our Prophet. Qur’an is sufficient as a proof. Also remember every known religious
scripture has foretold of the coming of a special preacher or prophet which closely resembles the
.circumstances of Prophet Muhammed

Buddha’s prophesy is in BLUE> and Quranic versus are in Green

- AN INSPIRED PERSON WILL COME

Now it’s past 2500 years since the demise of Buddha. Has this personality
already come? So let us analyze some of the words of Buddha as they appear in
.the scriptures

The Buddha, leader Gautama, has Prophesized the coming of an Inspired

: Person. In the Gospel of Buddha by Caras (pp. 217-8) it is written that

."This great Buddha will come to the world known as the "Maithriya

."The Cakkavatti-Sihanada Suttana gives him the name "Metteya

."Both these words are supposed to mean "The Merciful One

By reference to the life-history of Muhammad (p.b.u.h.), it can be seen that he

was indeed extremely merciful and the Al-Qur'an also refers to this fact. ( some
of the Buddhists may like to portray him as a “murderer” or as a bad person.
But the learned non-Muslims accept him as most modest man ever to have
,,,,lived in this world.) Quran has this to say about him

Q Ch. 21 :107 : “We sent thee not (O Muhammad) but as a Mercy for all
”.creatures

:There are further similarities, as the Buddhist Scripture reads

His (Maithriya’s) disciples will number many thousands, while mine"

."number many hundreds

It is a known fact that with Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) were thousands of followers.

He conquered Mecca with 10,000 of his followers. Now his followers constitute
over 1.3 billion, a fifth of world population spread over every land. There are
.further similarities, which will be elucidated below

In the Gospel of Buddha (by Carus – P 214), an “Enlightened Buddha” is

:described as follows

He will have a very bright skin

Buddha will attain supreme insight at night time
He will die naturally at night, will look very bright before his death
.After his death he ceases to exist on the earth

All these points can be applied to the holy prophet of Islam. (Read his life
history). He was fair. Some narrated that his face was brighter than the full
moon. He received his first revelation in the night in the Cave of Hira . He died
.naturally at night aged 63
Q: Ch 44 V 2-3 By the Book that makes things clear We sent it down during a
.(blessed night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil

,In Si-Yu-Ki, Vol I, p.229, it is written that

".No words can describe the personal beauty of Maitreya…“

Again, it is left to you to examine the history of Islam in detail. Both Muslims
and non-Muslims are almost unanimous in asserting that Muhammad (p.b.u.h.)
was very handsome and smart indeed from Sunnah. People came to question
him with vigor but the expressions in his face made them forget everything and
.simply accept his message

: Si-Yu-Ki Vol I. (p.229) further reads

The exquisite voice of the Bodhisattva (Maitreya) is soft and pure"
and refined; those who listen can never tire, those who hear are never
".satiated

The companions never got tired of listening to his long Qur’anic recitals during
prayers. They never got tired listening to him. The Arabic language is
remarkable for its beauty. Furthermore, the holy Qur'an is considered a work of
.the highest unique literary merit by friend and foe alike

Buddhist Scriptures have defined further characteristics of Buddha in order to

.qualify for the Maithreya, he must satisfy those conditions

.A Buddha must be a human being - not a deity

This means Buddha believed in God in contrast to the Buddhist’s dual role
between Atheism and Polytheism) – Muhammad, the son of Abdullah was
indeed a human being born to ordinary parents. He never claimed
.divinity

A Buddha must have five special gifts, viz. The gift of treasure, the
gift of child, the gift of wife, the gift of rule (i.e. Leadership, Head
.statesman) and the gift of life and limb

Qur’an is the biggest treasure by itself, he had many wives and many
children, he was a Leader and Ruler. What more proof do we need? Let
... move on

The Buddha would be teacherless, i.e. without any form of formal

.education

Q Ch 7:verse 159 - “…….so believe in Allah, and His Messenger who

can neither read nor write, who believes in Allah and His words,
(”.…..follow him that you may be guided

Buddha (Maithreya) is simply a man, salvation depends only on an

.individual’s deeds

Muhammed (p.b.u.h.) was indeed a man chosen by God. Q Ch 35 V 18,

“Nor can a bearer of burdens bear another's burden. ………” which means
(every individual is responsible for his actions

The Buddha (Maithreya) can only preach, he does not have the claim
.of being in part supernatural

Q Ch 3 verse144 - “Muhammad is no more than a Messenger, and

”..… indeed (many ) Messengers have passed away before him
Also Q Ch 3 verse164 - “Indeed Allah conferred a great favour on the
believers when He sent among them a Messenger from among
themselves, reciting unto them His (Allah’s) versus and purifying them
.and instructing them the Book (Qur’an) and wisdom

The characteristics above are all in accordance with the life of the Prophet
.(.Muhammad (p.b.u.h

According to Sacred Books of the East volume 11 pg. 97 Maha-Parinibbana

:Sutta Chapter 5 verse 36

Then the Blessed one addressed the brethren, and said,"

‘Whosoever, brethren have been Arahat-Buddhas through the long ages
of the past, they were servitors just as devoted to those Blessed ones as
Ananda has been to me. And whosoever brethren shall be the Arahat-
Buddhas of the future, there shall be servitors as devoted to those
".’Blessed ones as Ananda has been to me

The Servitor of Buddha was Ananda. Muhammad (pbuh) also had a servitor
by the name Anas Bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) who was presented
to the Prophet by his parents. Anas (RA) relates: "My mother said to him, 'Oh
Messenger of God, here is your little servant'." Further Anas relates, "I served
him from the time I was 8 years old and the Prophet called me his son and his
little beloved". He stayed by the Prophet in peace and in war, in safety as well
.as in danger till the end of his life

At 11 years he stayed beside the Prophet(PBUH) during the battle of Uhud

.where the Prophet’s life was in great danger

At battle of Hunain, Anas (RA) who was only 16 years old, yet stood by the
.Prophet when the Prophet was surrounded by the enemies who were archers
Anas (RA) can surely be compared with Ananda who stood by Gautam Buddha
.when the mad elephant approached him

THE TREE
Another similarity which should be mentioned is that
."For every enlightened Buddha, there is a special "Bo-tree

Some modern commentators believe that the "Bo-tree" of the Maitreya is a tree
with hard or heavy wood. The prophet (p.b.u.h.) had a tree at Hudaibiyya, which
was the place of an important treaty. The Qur'an gives the name "Shajar" to this
tree in (Surah 48:Verse 18). "Shajar" according to some scholars refer to
any tree with a hard stem. Again it is highly remarkable that such close
.similarity should exist
DISCUSSION

If these prophesies are truly in the Buddhist scriptures, then, the Buddhists
should seriously re-evaluate the true meanings of Buddhist philosophy in the
light of Islam for Buddha himself could have been a Messenger of Allah. If you
study the life history of Prophet Muhammad with sincerity you will understand
.that he is even more than what was prophesied

Buddhist philosophy may be looked from Islamic perspective in the following

:manner

Nibbana – A soul moving in to Eternal life of non-existence or nothingness -

could well be compared with the eternal life of Hereafter which Islam teaches.
After one dies he virtually is non-existent in this world. He goes on to his next
:three phases of life after death which can be categorized as
.Period of “barzaq” – waiting period in the grave .1
Judgment Period when your deeds will be judged by Allah .2
.Eternal life of Heaven or Hell .3
.Buddha could well have meant this life of eternity

Re-incarnation or Re-Birth may mean the re-birth of souls through

.repentance
Soul deteriorates when it commits sins. Then it revives upon seeking
repentance from God. This repeats over and over again since Allah is
“Al_Ghafoor” one who forgives over and over again. This could be like being re-
born. A non-Muslim when reverts to Islam is like a new born child. Or when a
Muslim performs Hajj he returns like a new born, his sins washed off. Buddha
.could have meant re-incarnation in this manner

Bhavana or Meditation – Buddha couldn’t have meditated to nothing. He

surely would have had someone in his mind seeking guidance and help. Islamic
Prayer is kind of meditation. Contemplation through Meditation is part of this
religion It purifies ones mind and develops the souls to feel the truth, thereby to
lead a meaningful and purposeful life in this world to reach the final destination
.of the hereafter with success

Ambattha Sutta

sutta.htm
Ambattha, a Tathágata arises in this world, an Arahant, fully-enlightened"
Buddha, endowed with wisdom and conduct, Well-Farer, Knower of the worlds,
incomparable Trainer of men to be tamed, Teacher of Gods and humans,
enlightened and blessed. He, having realized it by his own super-knowledge,
proclaims this world with its Devas, Maras and Brahmas, its princes and people.
He preaches the Dhamma which is lovely in its beginning, lovely in its middle,
lovely in its ending, in the spirit and in the letter, and displays the fully-
perfected and purified holy life. A disciple goes forth and practices the
moralities; he guards the sense-doors, etc.; attains the four jhanas. Thus he
develops conduct. He attains various insights, and the cessation of the
corruptions…And beyond this there is no further development of
.knowledge and conduct that is higher or more perfect
This resembles the Qur'an very well. Qur'an is the only Book of PERFECTION )
available in this planet. It confirms there will never be another Book which will
be more perfect in knowledge. It also assures that it will be protected from
corruption until end of this world which has been proved right for the past 1428
years so far. The scientific, Ethical, judicial, political or social norms established
(by this Book has no historical parallels. Allahu Akbar

What Pokkharasati told his pupil, about the Ambattha, the great man, foretold in the early
traditions

According to the tradition of our Mantras, Ambattha, the great man who is"
possessed of the thirty two marks of a great man has only two courses open to
him. If he lives the household life he will become a ruler, a wheel-turning
righteous monarch of the law, conqueror of the four quarters, who has
established the security of his realm and is possessed of the seven treasures.
These are, The Wheel Treasure, the Elephant Treasure, the Horse Treasure, the
Jewel Treasure, the Woman Treasure, the Householder Treasure, and, as a
seventh, the Counselor Treasure. He has more than a thousand sons who are
heroes, of heroic stature, conquerors of the hostile army. He dwells having
conquered the sea-girt land without a stick or sword, by the law. But if he goes
forth from the household life into homelessness, then he will become an
Arahant, a fully enlightened Buddha, one who draws back the view from the
world. And, Ambattha, I am the passer-on of the Mantras, and you are the
".receiver

Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) was indeed a Righteous Ruler, Conqueror, during)

the short time of his ministry (23 years) whole of Arabia came under him, he
was a great councilor, his companions were to him more than his children
numbered thousands were truly heroic in wars as well as in conduct, they
conquered large and powerful hostile armies with ease with a megre army, in
numbers and armor, later they conquered large nations without having to raise
a stick or sword, nations like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia etc.
( .He was indeed a great worshipper and mediator
