Single Station Commissioning
Task 1 Single Station Hardware Check
Before power-on of the equipment after installation, the check contents include
but not limited to:
" Cabinet
" Sub-rack
" Optical fiber
" Cable
" Whether DCM is correctly installed
" Main control coding (Unified network plan, no repetition)
" Customer Archive (customer information of this site)
Task 2 Power-on Check
Step 1 Check Impedance of the Terminal
The main switch and branch switches of sub-racks should be OFF before
the power-on. Measure the resistance between PGND and RTN1(+),
RTN2(+), NEG1(-) and NEG2(-).
Step 2 Check Fuse Capacity
Check whether the fuse capacity of the power distribution cabinet meets
the requirement of the fuse configuration principle.The fuse capacity
should be calculated as per full-configuration of the cabinet and the
cabinet at the OTM site typically is 50A.
Step 3 Check Voltage on Customer Side
The output voltage of the customers power supply should be
-38.4V~-57.6V (-48V20%).

System Commissioning
Part 1 Overhead and Order Wire Commissioning
Task 1 Supervisory Channel Commissioning
The typical output optical power of SC1 (SC2/TC1/TC2) is (-3~-6) dBm with the
receiving sensitivity of -48dBm. The insertion loss between TM interface and IN
interface on the FIU board is less than 1.2dB; the insertion loss between the RM
and OUT is less than 0.8dB. With the help of an optical power meter, measure the
attenuation of the supervisory signal after it passes the board and line.
Task 2 Configuration of Order Wire
1. Configuring the order wire
2. Remove the loop of conference call
In a ring network, a conference call can be transmitted repeatedly and be
superimposed continuously, making it easy to generate whistle that
affects the normal use. So it is necessary to remove the loop of the
conference call during the deployment.
3. Outgoing order wire subnet
When there is no order wire interconnection between two optical networks, an order
wire interconnection can be implemented through outgoing order wire subnet.

Part 2 Optical Power Commissioning
Task 1 Commissioning the Optical Power of Combined Signals
# For the commissioning of the optical amplification board, normally it is
to adjust VOA before OAU and OBU to make the input optical power
meet the specification.
It is recommend to use a spectrometer to commission the optical
amplification board, which will make the optical power commissioning more
accurate. If the spectrometer is not available, an optical power meter can be
used with the following method.
Commissioning of the amplifier input power in case only one to
two wavelengths are configured
! Each OAU/OBU input power should be 0.5dB to 1.0dB higher than the
value calculated by the formula.

Task 2 OTU Optical Power Commissioning
OTU optical power commissioning is to adjust the optical power according to the
input laser type within the range of +3dB and 3dB of the typical optical power
value (the mean value between the overload point and sensitivity value).
During commissioning, it is required to adjust OTU to a proper receiving optical
power range according to the receiving laser type at the DWDM side and the
customer side, and to add an appropriate fixed optical attenuation if necessary.
Normally the fixed optical attenuation in DWDM has already been added during
production debugging, and the on-site debugging is just to give it a check. The
fixed optical attenuation at the customer side should mainly be based on the light
emitting power of the abutting equipment.
$ At DWDM side
For OTM, add a fixed attenuator of 5dB between D40 and the receiving optical
amplifier; For LWF or LWC of ORP, add no fixed attenuator between D40 and the
receiving OTU. If the receiving optical interface is LWC of ORA, add a fixed
attenuator of 10dB between D32 and OTU.
For OADM, add a fixed attenuator of 5dB between the cascaded MR2s at the
boundary of east and west. For LWF or LWC of ORP, add no fixed attenuator
between MR2 and OTU. If the receiving optical interface is LWC of ORA, add a
fixed attenuator of 10dB between MR2 and OUT.
$ At the customer side
At the customer side, the fixed attenuator is added at the receiving optical
interface of the sending OTU, normally 5dB for LWF, 10dB for ORP as LWC and
15dB for ORA as LWC. For the unusual case of abutting LWC customer side, add
5dB for ORP and 10dB for ORA.

Task 3 VMUX Optical Power Commissioning
The principal for adjusting is: adjust the originating end while observe the
receiving end.
The commissioning procedure:
Step Operation instruction
1 Adjust the VOA attenuation of respective channels of V40 at the
originating end to 3dB (this operation is already done before
delivery and on-site adjustment is not necessary);
2 Commission the optical power of combined signals
3 Connect the spectrometer to the MON optical interface of the
last-stage optical amplification board, and measure the optical power
and signal-to-noise ratio of each channel in WDM mode;
4 Find the channel with the maximum and minimum optical power (or
signal-to-noise ratio) in the spectrogram measured, then adjust the
VOA of the corresponding V40 channel to make the optical power (or
signal-to-noise ratio) close to the average value;
5 Repeat Step 4 until the biggest difference of the optical power (or
signal-to-noise ratio) in all the channels is within 4dB (or 2dB);
6 When the above steps are done, usually the total input and output
optical power of respective amplifier stages will not change obviously
and the commissioning is completed.
Thus the VMUX optical power commissioning is completed.
Task 4 OADM Optical Power Commissioning
The optical power commissioning of OLA station and OTM station is
comparatively simple, generally two points need to be noted:
$ The position of the optical amplification board at OLA station is
OAU(1)+OBU(3) for east-originating and west-receiving, and
OAU(12)+OBU(10) for west-originating and east-receiving;
$ The board position relation of the VOA and optical amplification board is
one-to-one corresponding from left to right.

$ 1).Adjust the mechanically adjustable optical attenuator before the
receiving OAU to set the OAU input optical power to the standard value.
$ 2). Adjust the attenuation of the built-in OAU electrical adjustable
attenuator to set the BA input optical power of OAU to the standard
value.
$ 3).Adjust the adjustable attenuator at the OAU output optical interface
to set the input optical power of the pass-through wavelength at the
originating OBU to the standard value; the wavelength dropping optical
power received at the OTU should be around the upper receiving limit
of the commissioning range (-6dBm for PIN photodiode and -14dBm for
APD photodiode).
$ 4).Adjust the adjustable attenuator for wavelengths adding service
signals: pull out the input tail fiber of other wavelength adding services
from the corresponding MR2 IN interface, then, wavelength by
wavelength, adjust the optical power of the wavelength adding signals
to the typical value input from the originating OBU.
