APPOINTMENT US
INTRODUCTION
The issue is the inconvenience and burdens for medical institutions as a result of the public
forgetting about scheduled doctor appointments. According to DailyMail, 1 in 10 people
miss their appointments, a significant number is caused by memory loss. From 2008-2011,
an increase of 18% was seen and by 2026, this number is estimated to further rise - Ministry
of Heath. There is also the likelihood of other events occuring at the same time for the
patient making it an issue to attend. The solution we propose is to provide patients with an
application that assists them with appointment scheduling, making it more accessible to
manage their satisfied times with their health care at anytime, anywhere; including
reminders and medical records.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
To ease the unfavorable repercussions of patients missing their doctor appointments and
facilitating the health care experience.
3.2 Industry Analysis: Medical/health care app industry.
The industry we are operating in is the medical/healthcare app industry.
Force: High/Low: Justification:
Buyer power: Low
Buyers power is low as there are only a couple of
apps to schedule appointments and receive
reminders such as AppointmentPlus.
Supplier power: High Supplier power is high because there arent many
medical apps available that provide what our app
does of showing availability times and receiving

3

3
reminders of appointments.
Threat of new entrants: High Barriers to entry is low as it does not require
much resources or knowledge in this particular
field to create another alternative. In order to
enter the industry, a large amount of capital is
not needed - Quora. Dilworth, Dianna (2012).
Therefore, it is easy for new competitors to enter.
Threat of substitutes: High
There are a few substitute alternatives that can
replace this app such as setting alarms, calling
and some other apps - Kony Healthcare (2014).
However, theyre not as efficient and easy as a
mobile application where you can connect with
your doctor anywhere, anytime.
Rivalry among existing
competitors:
High
Competition is competitive as there are other
options available to schedule appointments or set
reminders in the market so, our app is not the
only choice given Divurgent. Konschak Colin
(2011).
Overall attractiveness of the industry: The medical app industry is a competitive market
and require businesses to differentiate their products. Buyer power is high because there
are other alternatives to choose from, making supplier power low as there are other
supplier. However, the threat of new entrants is high because there aint many
requirements you must meet before you can enter. Overall, the attractiveness of the
industry is relatively high.
3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs
The target group of customers are New Zealanders(16+), but in particularly, people who
suffer from memory loss and are regular patients. In reference to brain and memory
foundation (2014), an effective solution to avoid missing appointments is back up the
appointment with physical reminders and this is where a mobile application comes in.

4

4
Customers need an accessible app that allows them to plan consultations which suit them
so that it doesnt clash with other events and need to receive constant reminders of
appointment times.
3.4 The Product
This application is a tool available on mobiles to help patients reduce the inconveniences of
missing appointments and make the scheduling process easier. By introducting this, not only
are doctors more alerted of when they should expect their patients, but patients are given
constant reminders of appointment times through notifications so they do not miss it;
significantly helping those with memory loss. Customers are also provided with the doctors
daily schedule showing their availability so they can choose times that best suit them and
dont clash with other events, making it more convenient for our customers. Our application
will be serviced to customers through a smart phones App store as a huge proportion of the
population have this and only requires downloading.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners
Our potential suppliers would be designer software agents (Programming, designing the
concepts) and artwork designers (planning layout). These suppliers are required inorder for
our business to create the app and make sure it will provide the needs of our customers and
ensure it has accurate security so that medical information is not shared or mis-used.
Potential partners of this mobile app is Google PlayStore and Apple AppStore. These are
places we may distributre the app and coorporate with to advance our product and cater to
the public. For example, patients can access the Apple App Store on mobiles to download
the product.
3.6 Strategy: Cost leadership
For our application, the strategy is Cost leadership. This is because the competitive scope for
our app focuses on a broad market and is a low cost. The reason the app targets the broad
market is because it is aimed at all New Zealanders (16+) but in particularly, those suffering
from memory loss who have medical appointments and regular patients. It has a low cost

5
strategy meaning it has a relatively low price to stimulate demand so that everyone is able
to benefit from it and is affordable.
3.7 Value Chain Activity: Making the product
The value chain that our business focuses on is making the product. This is because it is the
most value put into our product and the most value captured by our app. The value that is
invested into the production of our app will be used to achieve our vision of easing the
unfavorable reprecussions of patients missing their appointments and faciliating the health
care experience by making it easier to connect with your healthcare. Our product focuses on
the low cost strategy because our high quality product targets everyone especially those
that have memory loss and are frequent patients in the industry.
3.8 Business Processes
3.8.1. PRODUCTION PROCESS
The production process is a key business process for the medical/healthcare app industry
and the steps below underlines the creation, assembling and the distribution of our
application. It is important to our organisation because it is the processes that must be
worked through to develop the most value for the customer. It allows us to create the app
and ensures that its features are efficient, helping our organisation to supply customers with
our product and achieve our vision of facilitating with the healthcare experience. The
process also walks through the different stages required to make sure the deficiency level of
the product is minimised and is achieving what its supposed to.

3.8.2. UPDATING PROCESS This Updating Process is a relevant process as it will improve the
efficiency of the app and ensure it runs smoothly. The steps outlined in the process below
will also add value to the customer by upgrading the app and making changes to adjust the
publics needs by evaluating their feedback so that their satisfaction levels are met. By
achieving this through planning, redesigning and finalizing the app again, our organisation
will benefit as our goals and vision would have been achieved of assisting with the
healthcare experience. If the app succeeds and is working at its maximum potential, our
organisation would likely see growth in our industry as more customers will be attracted.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, it is apparent that the use of Information Systems with this application can
generate great value to our customer by assisting with the process to make it efficient.
Because our issue is the public forgetting doctor appointments or having clashes as there
are other events on, our organisation has designed a mobile app to assist with this by
sending frequent reminders and showing your doctors available times for you to schedule
your own consultation to improve both conveniency and efficiency.
