2 AUTO-DRONE SYSTEMS LTD INTRODUCTION As time goes by, an ever present danger in modern society is the hijacking of commercial planes. A solution to this problem is to have a drone-like auto-pilot system to replace pilots on commercial planes. This addresses the issue of plane hijacking completely, as the flight path is controlled from the ground. The Auto-Pilot Drone 2.0 will drastically decrease the chance of a plane being hijacked and used as a weapon of terror. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision To adapt the processes in Aviation, to increase the ease of flying and ultimately focus on the safety of the passenger. 3.2 Industry Analysis: Auto Pilot Industry Industry: Auto Pilot Systems. Systems used to control the flight and trajectory of a commercial plane. Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: Low The Auto Pilot Drone 2.0 is a one of a kind technology. However substitute products such as the Rockwell Collins AFDS-770 Autopilot Flight Director System which are used in modern commercial airliners do exist. It will be difficult to change the auto-pilot system that airlines use therefore buyer power is high. Supplier power: High Supplier power is high as buyers have few choices to buy from. Due to the fact that it is difficult to
3
3 enter into the Auto-Pilot market, there are few products to choose from for airlines so the supplier power in the industry is high. Threat of new entrants: Low It is an extremely expensive and complex piece of engineering therefore the threat of new entrants is low. Start up costs are high and the business will need a large amounts of captital to establish itself in the market Threat of substitutes: High Although there are few substitute products for the Auto-Pilot Drone 2.0, the threat of these competitors is high as we are entering a market where switching to a new system is extremely expensive. This may cause customers to be reluctant in changing their airline technology. Rivalry among existing competitors: Low Rivalry among existing competitors is fairly low as all airlines use the automatic flight control system (AFCS). However the software used in each system varies. Our product revolutionises auto-plot systems so rivalry is low. Overall attractiveness of the industry: Overall, the industry is fairly unattractive as entering the market is extremely difficult. Start up costs are high and competitors and substitutes are already established in the market. Substitutes such as the CATIIIb (autoland) and the Rockwell Collins Autopilot do exist. However, these products do not harness the enhanced technology and safety standard of our product. If our product is purchased and used among a single airline, the modern and revolutionary nature of the product we believe that all of our target customers will make the switch to our systems.

4 3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs Our main target customers are mordern commercial aircraft providers such as Boeing and Airbus. Also we target large internation Airlines such as Emirates, Singapore Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways. The needs of these customers are to foremost provide the top level of safety for their passengers. Singapore Airlines welcomes all customers and aims to provide a safe, secure and seamless travel experience with the highest quality of service. (Singapore Airlines Sia Equal Access Plan (May 2011). We meet this need by eliminating the chance of hijacking and also pilot error. 3.4 The Product and Service Auto-Drone Systems provide a safe way of aviation and increases the convenience to a passenger. The system eliminates the need for a pilot as the flight path is entered in the auto-pilot system from the ground. Support centres will be able to adjust the planes path if air traffic is encountered, or weather conditions force another path to be taken. An emergency simulator is installed incase the primary system fails. Our system completely changes the way aeroplanes are flown and will drastically shorten the number of disasters occuring, such as the disappearance of Flight MH370 Malaysian Airlines. There have been 10 fatal Hijacking in the US alone in the last 50 years (Fatal U.S. Hijacking Events http://airsafe.com/events/hijack.htm -- Revised: 5 February 2013).
3.5 Suppliers and Partners A potential supplier of Auto-Drone System LTD is Rockwell Collins. This company provides products that can be used in collaboration with a drone system to make our product. Rockwell Collins sells Computing systems, display systems etc. that are essential to our business( http://www.rockwellcollins.com/Products_and_Systems.aspx). Also, the General Atomics company could be a potential supplier as it has produced technology for a military drone that flys to a pre-determined flight path (http://www.ibtimes.com/12-companies- will-conquer-drone-market-2014-2015-1534360). The company produces different types of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), commonly known as a drone which is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard. Its flight is controlled by an external operator on the ground. A

5 potential partner to our company could be Boeing. This company has a hand in the drone market and has high revenue of $81.7 billion in 2012,( http://www.ibtimes.com/12- companies-will-conquer-drone-market-2014-2015-1534360). Also, Aviation Partners Inc could be a potential partner as they redesign and invent wing technology on aeroplanes. (http://www.aviationpartners.com/). 3.6 Strategy: Focused High Costs The Market for Auto-Drone systems is niche and fairly narrow. Our company will aim to provide the best quality product as safety standards are paramount. We will need to focus on quality, rather than cutting corners in production cost. As the needs of our customers are for a high quality, reliable product our overall strategy is focused high costs. 3.7 Value Chain Activity: Make the Product The most important value chain activity for this business is making the product. We believe that the actual production of the product is the most important value chain activity. The AutoPilot Drone 2.0 focuses on the safety of the passenger therefore the production of the system must be thorough and done by experts. Auto-Drone Systems focuses on a high cost strategy and must produce quality in its goods. Therefore the activity of making the product must be taken of the highest priority. 3.8 Business Processes 3.8.1. MANUFACTURING PROCESS A key business process associated to the Auto-Pilot Drone 2.0 is manufacturing. Purchased goods are modified and assembled through production and assembly lines to bring about a previously designed product (http://www.chegg.com/homework-help/definitions/manufacturing-processes-5). The transformation of raw materials into our finished good is hugely important in our business. Our Operations Management department has the responsibility of controlling and carrying out the manufacturing process.

3.8.2. INVENTORY ORDERING PROCESS This business process is hugely important in the production of our good. The Inventory Ordering Process helps us identify which items we need and when to buy them (shortage of a particular material). The Operations Management Department is concerned with the ordering of inventory and material. This process will be supported by a Transactional Processing System.

3.10. 1. INVENTORY TRACKING SYSTEM An Inventory Tracking System is a process for managing and controlling materials within our business. This happens through the use of barcodes to maintain our inventory. This Transactional Processing System aids the Inventory Ordering Process as it gives employees a list and number of a particular material; which helps with the control of excesses, surpluses and order fulfilment. 3.10. 2. FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURI NG SYSTEM (FMS) - This system allows our manufacturing process to adapt. This will be useful as our production process is intricate and complex, which will require many adaptations. Another benefit this system will bring is the saving of time to manufacture a brand new product, instead of changing it. This system will greatly aid the functionality of transforming a raw material into a finished product. 3.10. 3. ORDER PROCESSI NG SYSTEM - An order processing system captures order data from customers or from customer service employees. It then stores the data in a database and sends order information to the accounting and shipping departments of our company. Order processing systems provide tracking data on orders and inventory which support the functionality of sending a purchase order.
