BIOSECURITY INFORMATIONAL
TECHNOLOGIES
INTRODUCTION
Biosecurity risks pose a serious threat to a nations environmental and economical stability.
These risks arise from several underlying causes, however in particular travellers who
originate from non-English speaking backgrounds. The solution is to provide an application
that is universal across multiple devices that would provide concise, detailed information
about individual countries bio security hazards, to prevent language barriers from continuing
to be an ongoing concern.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
To organize countries bio security information and make it both universally manageable and
valuable through an interactive application.
3.2 Industry Anal ysis: Bio security Information Industry
Industry: Bio security Information Industry. Providing relevant bio security related
information to travellers, to reduce hazards and threats at terminal checkpoints.
Force: High/Low: Justification:
Buyer power: LOW There are very few options in the bio security
information industry, causing buyer power to be
relatively low. The only current information made
available to travellers are international passenger
arrival cards, as other resources are not specific
enough to individual countries. The application
will enter an industry with few informational
technologies within airlines and airport terminals
respectively. (Reference #1)

3
Supplier power: LOW There are a vast range of methods for which bio
security information can be attained for firms
within this industry. Examples within New Zealand
include local governments or public health
sectors, and many others can help to gain
knowledge that a firm may require. (Reference
#2)
Threat of new entrants: HIGH The bio security information industry is not a
costly market to enter as a new organisation.
There are minimal technologies that a firm must
invest in, and partners and suppliers including
research groups and local governments, are easy
to approach and can be attained with few
complications.
Threat of substitutes: LOW The bio security information does not have many
threats within the industry itself only other
industries that are also highly capable of providing
relevant and crucial information to airlines, airport
terminals and other customer bases with a high
chance of success. The only current source which
is specific enough is the passenger arrival cards
for respective countries. (Reference #1)
Rivalry among existing
competitors:
LOW Within a countries bio security information
industry, organisations work together in order to
accomplish a successful system of retaining a
economical and environmental environment.
Therefore rivalry is low, as instead of trying to
beat one another, they would rather co-operate to
make the system more knowledgeable.
(Reference #2)

Overall attractiveness of the industry: Biosecurity information is an industry with high
precision and co-operation, as rivalry amongst existing competitors is relatively low. The
industry is not an expensive market place to enter, hence new companies may possibly arise
in the foreseeable future. There are only alternatives in other industries, not within the
industry itself, in providing quality bio security related information, which concludes that the
threat of substitutes is reasonably low. Organisations work together to achieve common
goals and thus leads to the sustainability of countries economic and environmental settings.
3.3 Customers and Their Needs
The targeted group of customers are predominantly international/foreign travellers. These
particular individuals are the base for the business as they are the most unaware of an
unfamiliar countries bio security hazards and unauthorised goods. Their need is to have
translatable information for all international terminals and border boundaries, to make them
as aware as they possibly can about the threats they pose for bringing prohibited items into
foreign countries, and the consequences of these actions. (Reference #3)
3.4 The Product and Service
The interactive application will be made available to passengers via their respective
entertainment units, and will provide passengers with arrival cards that can be completed in-
flight. The app will feature examples of commonly seized goods for the country they are
entering and all relevant and related bio security information. It will be made compatible
across all devices including phones, tablets and PCs. It will satisfy language barrier needs
of potential customers, as the translatable section of the application will make information
much more accessible.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners
Supplier One: Application Programmer Application programmers will be a supplier for my
startup business as they will provide the creation process of the application to make it
compatible across all devices and the kiosks at various airport terminals.
Supplier Two: International Governments These suppliers will be needed to access the
biological and bio security information for multiple countries, and this information will form
the database within the application itself.

5

5
Partner One: International Airlines These partners will install the application into their
respective entertainment units, and will help to improve brand recognition to the travelling
customers, as well as having a personal trial of the application in front of them.
Partner Two: International Airports International terminals will help to set up multiple kiosks
that can be made available to customers at the first stage of border control.
3.6 Strategy: Cost Leadership
The interactive application will be free of cost to download to the respective devices of the
international travellers (eg. Smartphone). The application will look to acquire and retain the
attention of a broad market, as millions people travel into foreign countries each and every
year. The overall strategy is therefore Cost Leadership.
3.7 Value Chain Acti vity: Make the product or service
The most important value chain activity for this business is Make the product or service
Assessing the values of the value chain activity, I decided that the making of the application
is the most crucial activity. This activity will give my business the competitive edge over any
potential rivals in the industry. It is within this activity that raw bio security information is
processed and transformed from data into useful and relevant information for the customer.
This value chain activity also gives my business the ability to achieve its vision to customize
countries bio security information and make it both universally manageable and valuable
through an interactive application and allows me to implement my cost leadership strategy.
3.8 Business Processes
3.8.1. APPLICATION MANUFACTURING AND PAYMENT PROCESS The beginning
process within model one, is in the operations management or step three of business
processes. It is the manufacturing of the application, which will me made available to
download and provided to airlines and airport terminals. When the supplier has successfully
created the application, our business is billed (accounting and finance/step four) for the
manufacture and a payment of cash to the supplier is evidently made.

3.8.2. APPLICATION DESIGN PROCESS Prototypes of the application are
created and made available to potential customers for testing and a feedback process
commences. The application is evidently edited to satisfy potential customer demands, and
when perfected the final design is implemented and made available to download.

3.9 Functional iti es
3.9.1. APPLICATION MANUFACTURING AND PAYMENT PROCESS
Using cloud software to ensure data is available regardless of location or
time.
Banking transaction between business and supplier via internet.
3.9.2. APPLICATION DESIGN PROCESS
Advanced software to aid the design of the application.
Social media advertising to appeal to potential application testers.
3.10 Systems

3.10.1. COLLABORATION SYSTEM An IT based system such as the cloud enables
the business to access data from any known location. This improves efficiency within the
data collection process as employees can convert the data into relevant information.
3.10.2. TRANSACTION PROCESSING SYSTEM This system allows for the transaction
to occur between the business and the supplier. The payment can be wired via online
banking and all personal information is kept safe through the respective banks. The system
is structured yet simple and allows for an easy outflow of payment from the business to the
supplier.
3.10.3. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM This system
enables the business to contact potential application testers via a social media center and
helps to retain customer contact information. In addition it helps to identify prospective
customers for the future implications they aim for us to apply to the finished product.

CONCLUSION
Bio security information technologies develops information systems and information
technology within the company to better incorporate the effectiveness of the
interactive application. IS/IT is crucial in developing an application that can provide
foreign travellers with the necessary information to limit or even eliminate the amount
of prohibited goods that are seized in respective countries and terminal checkpoints.
Various processes that are operated by individual systems, aim to organize countries
bio security information and make it universally accessible to the customer and make
it valuable through an interactive application.
