NEW SOLUTION FOR CURRENT COURIER
SERVICE IN AUCKLAND
INTRODUCTION
If you are an Aucklander, you are certainly not strange with the uneasy and unefficient
delivery system here. Most of courier companies here only operates within normal working
hours and if you are not at home to receive your delivery stuffs, they will leave a card that
tells you to travel far away to pick up by yourself. This absolutely bothers everyone living
here. Therefore, we are creating a new solution that can make a breakthrough in express
delivery industry. We intend to create a delivery network that EVERYONE can be a delivery
man if they meet some simple requirements from us. If this idea becomes true, the new
system will be operating 24 hours per day, all 7 days a week. Customers will be able to
receive their items on time and no longer have to go out collecting stuffs by themselves.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
To create a faster and more convenient courier service by creating a specific network that
everybody can be a deliverer.
3.2 Industry Analysis: Courier Service Industry
Industry: Courier Service Industry. This industry provides fast delivery service for items
(packages and documents) that have moderate size and can be easily carried by one single
delivery man.
Force: High/Low: Justification:
Buyer power: Low Besides express courier service, there is barely
any other services that can provide people such a
safe and fast distribution. Today, couriers are

3

3
indispensable to help solve critical needs for
individuals, businesses, and governments.
(History of courier service, 2013)
Supplier power: Low There are plenty of vehicles supplied for delivery
service such as truck, van, bicycle New types of
delivery vehicles are also tested to meet
customers changing demand, so supplier power
is low. (New Zealand Post, 2014)
Threat of new entrants: Low It is quite easy to enter courier service market as
the set-up cost and technology requirements for
this industry are not high. (Wallin, n.d.)
Threat of substitutes: High Instead of using courier service, people can
switch to standard delivery service but it certainly
takes longer to get items delivered.
Rivalry among existing
competitors:
High Rilvary among existing competitors is high
because four giant multi-international express-
package firms (DHL, TNT, UPS and FedEX) have
dominated this market for a long time and
competition between them has been constantly
increasing. (And then there were three?, 2012)
Overall attractiveness of the industry: The overal attractiveness of this industry is not very
high. It can be quite easy and not too expensive to enter, but to survive in a fierce
competitive market like this is really a big challenge.
3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs

4

4
The customers we target would be every individuals and online sales-based businesses
because more people are using shopping online services and they truly desire owning
products as soon as possible. In addition most of businesses nowadays required their
products and packages send more quickly to their target destination. (Importance of courier
service for global business, n.d.)
3.4 The Product and Service
Our service would be more advanced than contemporary services because it would operate
not only in normal working time but 24/7, so if customers tell us in advance they can receive
their delivery items anytime they want and do not need to go out collecting them. Our
service is going to create a network that everyone can be a delivery man, so customers
would also get their items delivered within the shortest time because there would be much
more delivery staffs working for us.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners
The most important supplier would be a software designing company. This company would
provide us a specific online system that our employees and our customers can easily access
to find out necessary information. The other important supplier would be the owners of
parking lots because they provides us space so that we can place our special automatic
machines that contain delivery items.
Our partner would be registered delivery people because they would coordinate with us to
transport items to receiver. Another partner would be vehicle rental companies. They
provide us delivery vehicles and in exchange we would let them advertise free on our
website where there are thousands of people accessing everyday.
3.6 Strategy: Focused Low Cost
The strategy for our company will be focused low cost. Our company would be mainly based
on online system and casual/part-time employees. Other costs for traditional delivery
services such as cost for delivery vehicles, petrol cost, full-time employees would be

reduced to the maximum extent. We firstly apply this service for online shopping market
and New Zealand domestic market, therefore the focused market would be narrow.
The overall strategy is therefore Focused Low Cost.
3.7 Value Chain Activity: Make the product or service
The most important value chain activity for this business is Make the product or service.
Our vision is to provide customers a faster and more convenient courier service. To
achieve that, we have to build a service that is decent enough to meet customers
satisfaction. Therefore, the quality of service is the most important thing, and the key
process of it is trying to keep the cost as low as possible and creating a competitive
competence.
3.8 Business Processes
3.8.1. ITEMS DELIVERY PROCESS This is the most important process in our business.
Our system firstly will scan all items we receive from customers and then it would
automatically figure out which deliverer would transport which items. Then our deliverer
would receive a SMS through our mobile phone system that inform him/her where and
when he/she needs to transfer the item. If the deliverer accepts the order, we will then
send the item to a machine placed at the parking lot that he/she usually uses. Then the
deliverer comes, swap the security card that he/she is provided and if it matches, the item
would be dropped out from the machine. Finally, the deliverer can deliver that item to
receivers. The receivers need to sign in a specific machine when they receive items from
deliverer in order to inform us that they already get the right items. After all above
processes are confirmed wages would be transfer directly to deliverers bank account
through our online banking support system.

crucial process of our company. Our service aims to provide the quicker and more
convenient courier service for Aucklanders in particular and New Zealanders in general.
Therefore the most critical thing for our company is the quality of service. Through this
process, we can assess whether our service is decent enough to make our customers
satisfied. This process is the key to make a long-term relationship with our customers.

CONCLUSION
With this idea, we are going to provide a distinct and high-quality courier service that can
meet the latest demands of customers. With the assisstance of IT, our items delivery system
