Unethical practices of the Internet

Internet- A system connecting computers around the world using TCP/IP, which stands for
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, a set of standards for transmitting and receiving digital
data. The Internet consists primarily of the collection of billions of interconnected webpages that are
transferred using HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol), and are collectively known as the World Wide
Web. The Internet also uses FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to transfer files, and SMTP (Simple Mail
Transfer Protocol) to transfer e-mail.
The internet is a global network of networks using universal standards to connect millions of different
networks (Laudon & Laudon, 2012). With millions of people trafficking the networks everyday it is virtually
impossible to monitor all unethical behaviors. Throughout the internet there are people who are publishing
false information, using fake identification, hacking accounts for financial benefits, or countless other
criminal acts and there is no way of stopping all of them. The internet is open to everyone and a lot of
these modern businesses cant function without it. A lot of the problems dealt in the internet aren't solely
on business users but anyone who has access to internet, so whatever affects the casual user defiantly
affects the business user.
The ethics of business
It is known that The World Wide Web isn not exactly a place for good business ethics. It can be a
lawless place filled with unscrupulous operators pushing get-rich-quick schemes and toher scams.
Laura Pincus Hartman, director of the Insitute for Business and Professional Ethics at DePaul
University in Chicago, who studied business ethics said that : Every possible abuse oof integrity and
decency takes place on the Web.
Randy Pennington , an ethics consultant said there was a sense that moral and ethical values are
not important on the Web.There is no standardization in technology on the Web, so why do we expect
standardization in behavior?.
The answer of regulation of ethical behavior is that in the future the online community must
regulate itself. Despite the global nature of Web, Randy sees the possibility of government intervention.
The Netcheck Commerce Bureau is one aatempt alt self-regulation. The agency maintains a list
of companies involved in electronic commerce. Visitors can register consumer complaints about anything
from unsolicited e-mail to copyright disputes.
The Web is also a great place to learn about and research the issues of business ethics, both
within the Internet and beyond. The site of institute at DePaul introduces to business ethics, the business
of domain names and how they are registered involves some of the worst breaches of ethics on the
Internet. Corporations and nonprofit groups are being forced to spend a lot of time , money and aenergy
to fight piracy of high-profile . com and . org addresses.

The DePaul site has compiled a list of direct links to a variety of codes, including Johnson&
Johnson, Northern Telecom and the National Associtation of Remodeling Industry.
The Internet has evolved as an open, democratic cyber society marked by free speech
and volunteerism. It is a community gathering place for people to share ideas, concerns, stories
and opinions, and to give help and assistance to one another. (Mills-Scofield) There has also
arisen a series of problems. Whenever any major development in society is conceived, such as
when telephones were introduced, problems ensue. The Internet, because of its modern nature
is not really well dealt with when it comes to existing ethical and moral issues. Being that the
Internet has fostered a new class of community that requires a unique category of moral values
and ethical considerations. Things are always going to be dealt with differently when it comes to
any revolutionary type of medium. For instance how can the federal government regulate
interstate trade when it is electronically transmitted information? It is a whole new category, how
could the constitution have predicted? Although there are many differences, The Internet mirrors
today's society to a large degree, with its blend of good and bad. Many of the issues facing the
U.S. and the world, such as those related to race or gender, for example, are also issues on the
Internet. And various subcultures, such as militias, GenX and philosophical movements, are
represented. (Mills- Scofield) They go on further to say, Like all societies, the Internet has its
unwritten rules.

Unethical banking practices
As a continually growing financial service of electronic commerce, Internet banking requires the
development and implementation of a sound security procedure. This involves designing effective
methods via which users can be authenticated in a remote environment. Specifically for Internet banking
there is a real need for a way uniquely to identify and authenticate users without the possibility of their
authenticity being cloned. Some technologies in use have been presented for meeting the security
requirements for national, regional and global Internet banking assurance.
The is no doubt in it that information technology has blessed us with countless benefits but at the
same time it has brought a lot of troubles for us too. The unethical use of IT causes countless troubles for
us daily. Unethical data theft, access unethicals websites .
Unauthorizes copying of info and stealing data with the intent of extortion or other wrongful uses,
installing unapproved software/spyware systems , altering information.
Marketing and advertising
There are many unethical issues about technology, such as children looking at pornography, online
gambling, and also a false identity issues. Many people can access free music which can get them into
serious crimes for downloading.
