NOTE If the Shelf managers and/or ATCA 7150/7365 board have a higher version of the firmware
then that firmware SHOULD NOT be downgraded.

02 Jul 2012 WiMAX ASNGW Software Release Notes 8
Shelf Managers in the Low-Tier CAPC or Middle-Tier CAPC should always be running on the same
firmware/software versions. If a Shelf Manager is being replaced with a new one, refer to section
Upgrade Shelf manager software and firmware in the WiMAX Low-Tier / Middle-Tier CAPC
Software Installation Procedure.

The only way to access the LMT on Low-Tier / Middle-Tier is through the bond3 interface. The
following workaround needs to be done in order to access LMT from the EMS client.
1
On the Topology UI, select the Low-Tier / Middle-Tier CAPC node, right-click and select
Node properties.
2 On the Node properties window, obtain the edit lock.
3 Navigate to CAPC General tab.
4
Modify CAPC LMT URL to have the Low-Tier / Middle-Tier CAPC bond3 interface IP in
the URL instead of bond1 interface IP.
5 Click on the Save icon on the Node properties window to save the changes
9

Rolling upgrade and downgrade
Rolling upgrade should be used to upgrade the High-Tier CAPC from:
WMX3.0-1.66.00 or later load
WMX4.0 1.52.00 (CRO load)
M3CRO 2.02.00 (WMX4.0 GA load)
WMX4.0 1.62.00 (GA Patch 1 load)
WMX 4.0 1.65.00 (GA Patch 3 load)
WMX-CAPC_R4.0_BLD-1.70.01 (GA Patch 4 load)
WMX-CAPC_R4.0_BLD-1.73.00 (GA Patch 5)

To:
WMX-CAPC_R4.0_BLD-1.73.08 (GA Patch 6).

The rolling upgrade procedure should be used to upgrade a High-Tier CAPC. See the conditions
below:
The CAPC Audit Script should be executed prior to Rolling Upgrade to check system
condition. The audit result will help to identify any potential issues that could affect Rolling
Upgrade.

NOTE Do not use the script that is bundled with the code. Use the script provided in the
release binder.

Rolling upgrade procedure will be documented in the System Upgrade MOP

All System controllers (F101s) and Payload blades (7221s) MUST ALWAYS be in active and
standby pairs before attempting rolling upgrade. Configurations involving a single payload
(non active/standby pairs) are not considered a valid setup and are not supported.

The operator must verify the following firmware versions before attempting an upgrade. If
the versions do not match to what is expected, the upgrade may fail. See Firmware versions
prior to starting the upgrade to 4.0 to find out the firmware versions.
IPMC, BIOS versions of 7221 blades and RTMs
Shelf-manager versions

When upgrading, the recommended procedure is to download, prepare and activate in one step. To
perform a 2-step upgrade with the 1st step being download/prepare and the 2nd being activate, it is
recommended not to perform F101 switchover between the two steps. If a F101 switchover happens
between the two steps the first step of download/prepare needs to be repeated.

The following activities should not be done during the process of Rolling Downgrade from a WMX4.0
CAPC load to a WMX3.0 CAPC load.
User management (creation/modification/deletion of users).
IPSec policy file push.
7221 firewall configuration files update.

During RU of High-Tier chassis, if only one of the new standby payload card (after payload
switchover) fails to upgrade, its considered as upgrade success and EMS displays success for
upgrade. If initial standby or more than one payload fail to upgrade, its an upgrade failure and
rollback is triggered.

02 Jul 2012 WiMAX ASNGW Software Release Notes 10
During a rolling upgrade or rolling downgrade, LMT operations should not be performed.
Notes on the PreUpgrade audit script

Notes about LDAP server configuration
The LMT login should have minimum 4 and maximum 12 chars in the username

CAPC Automated Installation is the only method of commissioning a new non-factory commissioned
CAPC. This procedure should be used if there is a need to clean install a board or entire chassis.
Contact NewNet Customer Support for any questions. Please refer to the WiMAX CAPC NCS
Software Automated Installation Procedure which is available in the Release Binder. In the case of a
new, factory commissioned CAPC, refer to the CAPC Field Commissioning Document.

NCS 3.1.11 build 1.0.1 (NCS SP11) is the version of NCS SW integrated into both of WMX-
CAPC_R4.0_BLD-1.73.00 (SP5) and WMX-CAPC_R4.0_BLD-1.73.08 (SP6).

The CAPC LMT can only be accessed from the following browsers:
Internet Explorer 7.0+
Netscape 6+
Mozilla FireFox 1+.
13

Customized ACL rules
Operators should contact NewNet Customer Support to add customized ACL rules or to change the
default AAA ports (ports 1812, 1813) through the EMS. Also note that these customized rules will not
persist across upgrades.

NOTE NCS CLI commands can only be executed from the active system controller. It is not
recommended that the operator execute commands via the CLI prior to contacting
NewNet Customer Support.
Password controls
Password controls are in place on the CAPC. All password changes must be made on the active
controller. Rules are as follows:
Passwords need to be changed every 60 days
Password must contain a minimum of 9 characters
Password must contain a minimum of 2 uppercase, 2 lowercase , 2 numeric and 2 special
characters (eg. %,&,#, etc)
Password cannot be re-used within the last 5 changes - Easily guessable passwords cannot be
used (such as names, telephone numbers etc)
Passwords cannot be changed more than once every 24 hours.
The login delay between login prompts after a failed login is set to four seconds.
After three consecutive unsuccessful login attempts the account is locked. Note: If the
operator wishes to disable password controls, the operator must contact NewNet Customer
Support.
Password controls for the CAPC LMT

All LMT users passwords will expire every 60 days. Operators are expected to change the password
before the expiration date. During the 7 day warning period the home screen on the LMT displays the
number of days left before password expiration. Operators can use the LMT to change the password.

There is also a provision to reset the passwords of other operators by the administrator user
(capcadmin) at the LMT. If the capcadmin password has expired then it has to be reset by logging in
to the console using root and run the following script: /usr/app/capc/lmt/script/ChangePassword.sh.
If user tries to login after password expiration, the LMT displays the following:

Your password has expired. Please contact the administrator.

In this case, the operator can request the capcadmin to reset the password.
02 Jul 2012 WiMAX ASNGW Software Release Notes 14
Account management
An account is locked after 35 days of inactivity
How to find out if an account is locked:

1
Use passwd S command to find out if a password is Locked (L) or not (P)
syntax : passwd S <username>
Example :
root@CAPC-2009:# passwd -S capcadmin
capcadmin P 04/05/2008 0 60 7 -1
root@CAPC-2009:# passwd -S motorola
motorola L 02/04/2008 0 60 7 -1
In the example above, account for user capcadmin is not locked while that of user
motorola is.
2
Check the pam_tally count using the following syntax : pam_tally --user=<username>
pam_tally --user=user1
User user1 (1005) has 2
If the count (which is 2 above) is greater than or equal to 3, then the user would be
denied access (provided password controls in STIG is enabled).

Rectifying account lock-out problem:

It is expected that the operator manually syncs the AAA and the local CAPC's account settings so that
they are always in-sync. Once a user asks the account to be unlocked, the operator has to find the
method by which the account was locked and take appropriate action.

The passwd S command returns the password is locked (status shows L after the username).
Running usermod -U <username> unlocks the account and sets the password to the old
password again (the user can log in using the password previously used)

PAM tally denial - pam_tally binary shows that the user has tried to enter using a wrong
password at least three times. Run pam_tally --user=<username> --reset=0. This would reset
the pam_tally count to 0 and enable access. The user has to use the old password again to log
in.
Operation shutdown command
Under no circumstances should the operation shutdown command be entered at the active F101
switch controller ncscli. This issue is covered in Bulletin ID: wimax_a_capc_007.
Fan tray module
After inserting a Fan Tray Module (FTM) into a 1406 chassis, a controller switchover is required to
obtain accurate information for inventory data.
15
