Obesity: Problems and consequences.

Statistically Mexico is the second leading country in the world with obesity problems.

Obesity is considered to be an illness and affects people in every age. People find this

problem based on the excessive consuming of non-nutritional alimentation. The

consequences of obesity are many illnesses and it is sad to know how people who suffer

from obesity find social problems.

According to Grillo (2009) Mexico is the second place country in the world with

obesity problems, just behind the United States. It is alarming the statistics showed by

the Department of health in Mexico, in which it is proven that there are approximately

thirty million people in Mexico with obesity issue; it is equivalent to 25- 27 % of the

population in this country. Contributing factors to obesity are the variety of junk and

greasy food that people in this country consume and the results are alarming how people

who suffer from obesity do not seem worried about it although it has mortal

consequences. The obesity is caused not just by external factors; it can also be a

hereditary problem.

It is necessary to work on the obesity issue since it is an illness which affects people in

every age. During childhood for instance, it is the stage in which children have their

metabolic development which will determine whether the child will suffer from obesity

or not. Parents must know of the consequences that obesity has on their children and

can reduce their lives and in this case in particular, adults are responsible because they

are in charge of the nutritional life of their children.

Young people have the natural tendency to gain weight easily; therefore, it is normal

that teenagers become fat and with obesity problems in a few years. This detail brings

that lots of teenagers with weight problems tend to avoid social events because they

seem to have a poor image of themselves which ends in the insecurity that their

appearance gives them because they feel people consider them as the point to make

jokes and occasionally are targets for discriminated actions, Calva (2008) says it occurs

specifically when the person is a woman, who have less possibilities to be socially

accepted.

In young people, the problem of obesity seems to be an aesthetic problem for the

reasons explained before. On the other hand, in adults it is the opposite because on that

stage in their lives without healthy alimentation and the physical exercise required, the

consequences can be rapid and drastic.

It is necessary to react against the obesity, for that purpose everybody has to be

conscious of it. People have to realize that obesity can bring social and physical

problems. Such illness can develop some other ones with mortal consequences or with

some physical problems like the early ageing for mention one of them. Adults have to

play the most important role to avoid this problem whether they want a healthy family.
