Greek legend of Orpheus and
Eurydice. Step right up for the

Where Have All The Audiences Gone?
Co-Presented by TAPA
Just like the buffalo and the lowland gorilla, audiences in Toronto are dwindling. Even after
years of reduced ticket prices and exible subscription packages, the trend continues. In an
effort to better understand audiences, TAPA partnered together with the Strategic Counsel
and surveyed over 3500 audience members to nd out what is really going on. Join TAPA for a
conversation on the ndings on audience behaviour in the report, and what we can do to bring
them back.

I Cant Believe They Did That!!
- Responsibility & Theatre
Is it right to provoke for the sake of your art? Toronto theatre is no stranger to
controversy. Weve seen shows that have poked, prodded, and even elicited (literal!) boos
from reviewers. But who do we hold accountable for this outrage? Join us as we discuss
the topic of the Responsibility of Theatre with our panel of industry experts and Fringe
New Play Contest Winner, Alexander Offord.
FRINGE AFTER DARK 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Stitch and Bitch
Bring your project to the Fringe Club and chat with your fellow Fringers about shows you
have seen and life in general. Dont have a project? Dont worry about it. The Fringe will
be offering knitting and friendship bracelet (Fringe-ship bracelet!) tutorials and supplies
all night long. Dont have anything to bitch about? Well, that must be nice.

Youth Leadership in the Arts
Presented by The Paprika Festival
Across the country there are youth outreach programs being offered by major arts
institutions. These institutions must appeal to the requirements and mandates of major
funding bodies. Is this creating a culture of youth outreach initiatives that are not serving
youth in the best possible way? Is there another way to integrate the next generation of
cultural leaders? The panel discussion will focus on youth leadership in the arts and how
we might better serve the diversity of young people seeking artistic expression.

Stop trading your skills for a round of beers and start thinking about how to share

improve and empower the arts sector? Is it sustainable? Or are we ignoring the fact that
artists have bills to pay? Join our panel on the topic of organized resource sharing.

A SIMPLE TWIST OF FAITH
by Evan & Rafe Malach

presented by HOW - Harmony Over War
from Toronto
Honour the start of the WWI
Centennial with this musical inspired
by a true story. In 1917, a Jewish
American soldier in Germany enters
a synagogue seeking solace from
the terrors of war. After initial
mistreatment, he is touched by
an act of kindness from a German
congregant. The moment sets off a
ripple effect and changes the course
of both of their lives.

VECTORS OF THEIR INTEREST

surplusvaluetheatre.com
presented by Surplus-Value Theatre
from Toronto and New York, NY, USA
Inside a Victorian house rented
online for the night, the three
young recessionistas of Viragon
Capital Group and their thoroughly
male, thoroughly unpaid intern
search through their hosts effects
looking for new, perverse business
opportunities. By sunrise all
four will undo each other in very
unprotable bouts of desperation
and resentment.

THE TORONTO FRINGE -
EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
At the Toronto Fringe, we support artists at every stage in their
creative process, from creation to fundraising to performance.
A MESSAGE FROM THE CANADIAN
ASSOCIATION OF FRINGE FESTIVALS
If you are reading the welcome messages in the Fringe
program, then you are a Fringe Angel. If youre reading this
message, youre likely already a convert, but as our numbers
grow, we need to continue to spread the gospel! Fringes
everywhere need keeners like you to make each festival a
glowing success time and time again.
New Fringe Festivals are popping up all over North America we welcomed Port
Albernis inaugural festival last year and are welcoming San Diego into the Fringe fold
in 2014. The diversity within each Fringe Festival is echoed by the diversity between
each Fringe Festival. We could not imagine two more different cities embracing
Fringe spirit than a small mill town on Vancouver Island and a California metropolis.
Fringe Festivals can happen in wildy different communities but still share in their
ideal of theatre for everyone.
Yes, Fringe is a trademark (in Canada) but we are not a franchise - as a grassroots
movement, all our members, Canadian and American alike believe in the same ideals
of making participation possible for everyone, be you artist, volunteer or audience
member. Thanks for being a part of the movement it is because of your participation
that the movement is strong. This year I challenge you to deepen your commitment to
inclusive performance: take time off work and volunteer, bring your imagination to the
stage or bring new people to join in the creative chaos! Fringe is your Festival make
it happen.
Fringefully yours,
David Jordan
President
Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals

FWYC
(FUND WHAT YOU CAN)
A crowdfunding platform for the indie arts community.
www.fwyc.ca
On March 7, 2014 the Toronto Fringe launched Fund What You Can (FWYC), a crowdfunding
platform for independent artists across Canada. FWYC is a fundraising resource for indie artists
from any discipline who are looking to generate revenue for their artistic projects. FWYC has been
designed to suit the needs of aspiring indie lmmakers, choreographers, musicians and other
artists as well as those in theatre. Like Indiegogo or Kickstarter, FWYC allows artists to create
and manage their own crowdfunding campaigns at www.fwyc.ca. But unlike other crowdfunding
platforms, FWYC has been tailor-made for indie artists and will offer a more targeted reach to
campaigners and zero platform fees for the rst six months of operation (until August 31st, 2014).
For more information visit www.fwyc.ca
NEXT STAGE
THEATRE
FESTIVAL
(NSTF)
The Next Stage Theatre Festival (NSTF) is the Fringes curated festival that runs annually
each January, and features ten productions pulled from top Fringe companies across North
America. The festivals mandate is to provide a platform for successful Fringe artists and
companies to take their work to the next level and it has quickly become Torontos premiere
winter theatre event. This past festival was the highest grossing Next Stage Theatre
Festival of all time, as audiences came out in droves to see 12 days of the best indie theatre
in Canada. The 2015 festival runs from January 7th-18th, 2015 at the Factory Theatre.
