SIMATIC software

Introduction
1/3
Application S Design
Application SIMATIC software is a
comprehensive array of tools
based on standards for the
programmable controllers
SIMATIC S7, SIMATIC M7,
and SIMATIC C7. It provides
all software functions required
for configuring, programming,
testing, starting up, and
servicing the programmable
controllers SIMATIC S7,
SIMATIC M7, and SIMATIC C7.
Design
Features
SIMATIC software is
comprehensive:
J Shared data management;
all data of a project (e.g.,
symbol charts, configura
tion and parameterization
data) are filed in a single,
central database. That
makes it possible for all
tools, including those of
other softwares (e.g.,
WINCC), to use these data.
J Comprehensive series of
tools; for every phase of an
automation project there are
userfriendly functions: con
figuration and parameter
ization of the hardware, cre
ation and documentation of
programs, as well as test
ing, startup, and servicing.
J Openness; import/export
interfaces ensure
connection with the PC
world.
SIMATIC software is
userfriendly:
J Individual programming
languages; the user can
select the language that is
easiest for him or her and
best suited for the task.
J Comprehensive help
functions; comprehensive
user documentation, a
tutorial, and contextlinked
information functions make
it easy for both the
beginner and the expert"
to work with this powerful
software.
J Extensive set of
commands; the
programming languages
have an extensive set of
commands, with which
even the most complicated
automation tasks can be
performed easily and
quickly.
J Detailed information
functions; in seconds, the
user is informed about the
current state of data and
about errors that might
occur and their causes.
SIMATIC software uses
standards:
J Standard operating system;
the SIMATIC software is
based on the standard op
erating system Windows 95
and takes advantage of all
the benefits of this modern
and userfriendly user inter
face.
J The standard
DIN EN 6.11313;
the SIMATIC programming
languages satisfy the
standard DIN EN 6.11313.
That makes it easier to
become familiar with them.
Packages The SIMATIC software is
constructed modularly. The
individual tools can be
assembled into a group
appropriate for the application
in question. SIMATIC software
consists of:
S the base package STEP 7,
STEP 7 Mini, or
STEP 7 Micro/DOS,
S additional higherlevel"
programming languages,
S technologyoriented
configuration packages,
and
S optional software packages
that make possible ex
panded applications (e.g.,
operator control and pro
cess monitoring) or provide
greater userfriendliness
(e.g., graphic configuration)
or prefabricated solutions
(e.g., standard functional
blocks).
J STEP 7 basic software;
STEP 7 makes it possible to
program all standard
applications with the
programmable controllers
SIMATIC S7 and
SIMATIC C7. It is also the
base for using SIMATIC M7.
There are 3 versions of
STEP 7:
S STEP 7 Micro/DOS, for
programming the S7200;
extremely easy to use and
has only minor hardware
requirements.
S STEP 7 Mini; for
programming simple
standalone applications
with the S7300 and
C7620.
S STEP 7; the universal
software for the
SIMATIC S7300/400,
SIMATIC C7, and
SIMATIC M7. Has extensive
functionality and can be
expanded with all optional
S7 or M7 software
packages.
J Higherlevel programming
languages" (optional
software); in addition to the
classic PLC languages
already contained in
STEP 7, other programming
languages are available:
S S7SCL; similar to PASCAL,
this highlevel language for
the PLC, which satisfies
DIN EN 6.11313, expands
the possibilities of using a
PLC: calculation of
formulas, simple
formulation of complex
optimization algorithms, or
data processing. Ideal for
technicians and engineers
with knowledge of
highlevel languages.
J Technologyoriented
software package (optional
software); this package
enables the user to carry
out automation projects
without detailed knowledge
of PLC computers or of
programming.

J Software for special
applications (optional
software);
additional software
packages expand the area
of use of SIMATICs:
S COROS ProTool/Lite, for
parameterization of the MMI
functionality in the
SIMATIC S7, SIMATIC M7,
and SIMATIC C7.
S SIMATIC S7 standard
control system, for solving
control problems.
S Fuzzy control, for creating
fuzzy control systems.
S HARDPRO (WIN), for
configuring and
parameterizing the
SIMATIC S7 and
SIMATIC S5 hardware. Also
for creating plantwide
signal lists, schematic
diagrams, terminal
connection diagrams, and
lists of components (with
components and rules from
the Electronic Catalog).
S PRODAVE MPI, the toolbox
for process data traffic
between SIMATIC S7s and
programming devices and
PCs.
J Software for the SIMATIC
S7/M7 (optional software):
S M7SYS, the execution
system for the SIMATIC M7,
based on the realtime
multitasking operating
system RMOS32.
S SIMATIC DDE server, for
access to process
variables of the SIMATIC S7
or SIMATIC M7 system from
Windows applications.
S CFC (Continuous Function
Chart),
for graphic interconnection
of complex functions (e.g.,
STL, LAD, or SCL blocks for
the SIMATIC S7, or
C programs for the
SIMATIC M7), especially for
describing continuous
functions. Ideal for the
technologist.
S M7ProC/C++, integrates
C/C++ programming into
the SIMATIC world. For
applications requiring
processing of large
quantities of data with a
SIMATIC M7 (e.g., archiving
or statistical analyses) or
the merging of standard
libraries (C programs).
Ideal for system
programmersand computer
experts.
