An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Read the following statement carefully. Then write your observation report on the provided
space.

1. Describe the community of the neighborhood where the school is found.
2. Describes the school campus. What colors do you see?
What condition of the buildings?
3. Pass by the offices. What impression do you have these offices?
4. Walk through the school halls, the library, the cafeteria. Look around and find out the
other facilities that school has.

Name of the School Observed: Magtaking Elementary School
School Address: Brgy. Magtaking, San Carlos City, Pangasinan

1. I should say that the community or neighbourhood of the school environment I have been
observed is very satisfying and well organized. The students as well as the faculties and staffs of
the school are being very safe to stay there. The surroundings and environment is free from noise
and very attractive to see which makes the students being well-motivated and so everybody felt
interested to study in this school.

2. As I first arrived at the school campus, I have been observed that the buildings area well-
structured/ well-constructed. It was built with proper places and its color was good and
attractive which is colour green that denotes freshness. I also observed that they were aware of
their environment. The different plants, flowers and paintings of the school are very attractive to
see. This can be considered as one of the reasons why many of them looks like very motivated to
study. Although the school is not that wide, still it is fitted and satisfying for to all. It is because
of the cooperation and unity of the everyone,(the principal, the teachers and even the pupils) in
cleaning the school and making it impressive.

3. As I passed by the offices, I have seen that it is well-arranged and well-organize and has
complete materials to be used for some meetings or seminar. The surroundings of the office are
clean and good. It has a lot of flowering plants which is very attractive to everyone who passed
by it. The office also has complete materials that can be used by the teachers and principal such
as computers, tables, chairs and even a projector.

4. As I walked through the school halls, the library the cafeteria I have found out that the it was
organized well and I have seen that they were very eager to manage and used these facilities
well. I have found out also that the school has also other facilities such as the science and math
reading center, the Filipino and English reading canter, the home economics room, audio visual
room, and science laboratory and of course the office of the principal and the Faculty.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided with these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to record
your data.
1. Look at the walls of the classrooms. What are posted on the walls? What heroes,
religious figures, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?

I have seen many pictures posted on the wall in the classroom where I observed. I saw
some pictures of heroes; President and I observed that the classroom was surrounded by colorful
materials. I saw some religious figures and also inspirational quotations and proverbs posted.
The classroom has a complete instructional and learning material. The teachers table is well-
arranged and has a nice and attractive display.

2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are arranged. Where is the teachers table located?
How are the tables and chairs/desks arranged?
The furniture of the classroom that I observed is good and well-structured. I should say
that it benefits the student need which can help them in engaging with the learning process.
The
teachers' table is located at the back of the students/pupils facing the blackboard.
The tables and chairs/desks are well-arranged. I observed that their chairs and
desks were properly arranged and aligned. Its because the teacher is always
aware of the arrangement of their respective seats, telling them to arrange it and
have a seat properly every before they start the classes.

3. What learning materials/equipments are present?
The classroom was benefited with a good blackboard, chalks, erasers and some
visual aids as well as books which they can use in every subject. There were also pictures and
proverbs posted on the wall which can help them add knowledge.

4. Observe the students how many are occupying one room?

The classroom that I have been observed was occupied by thirty three (33)
students, 20 Boys and 13 Girls. I should say that this was enough for the measurement of the
room. They can even move everywhere because the classroom can be occupied by them all.

5. Is the room well-lighted and well ventilated?
Yes, the classroom is well-lighted and well-ventilated. They have three (3)
electricfans to be used. One placed, in front, the other is for the teacher and the third one is the
ceiling fan which benefits all of the pupils. It is well-lighted because they have lights which help
them to see anything on the blackboard.

With that the learners became more interested and very eager to learn and the
classroom can be considered as conducive to learning.

CLASSROOM FACILITIES MATRIX

10. Instructional materials

It was arrange properly and well organize

My Analysis

How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact on the learning of the
students going to school? What are conclusions?

As soon as the students enter they are attracted by a clean and orderly set- up. One or
two frames create a pleasant an inviting air. Natural light and flowing fresh air add to their
comfort and ease they tackle the learning tasks. Free from noise coming from the surroundings.
Students concentrations and interests are easily sustained. With that the learner are more likely
become motivated and willing to learn. I conclude that when the learning environment is good
the more the learners become motivated to learn.

How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development?

This has been related to the subject I have taken which is child and adolescent
development, that a child has a short span of attention. A child is a very curious person. She/he
keep on asking questions until he get the right answer. He is also not aware of what is happening
on the environment unless she reached the age of maturity.

How does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

In related to the subject facilitating learning, a teacher must know how to cope up w/ her
pupils. He must level his teachings with the level of intelligence of the learner. A teacher called
as a facilitator not just to teach in front with a purpose and discussed rather than to make an
interaction with the learners inside the classroom. He should have a strong relationship with the
learner. A teacher must have a thousand of miles of patience. They should posses all the things
needed to reach that profession.

The mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teachers inspires
. William Arthur Ward

My Reflection

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed?

Yes, I like to teach in the school environment I have been observing because the
environment was good. The students and teachers even the principal sure very kind-hearted and
respectful. They accept visitors warmly. They know how to communicate well to each other. The
school is free from noise and destructions and they always maintain its cleanliness. One thing I
like to it is it was near in our house.

2. What kind of school is conducive to learning?
A school campus which is conducive to learning is a school which has a complete facilities
like libraries and cafeteria, having appropriate number of classroom, a good and clean
surrounding where we can find diff. beautiful flowers and plants. Having good and effective
teachers that will stand as the model of the pupils. Also a school that has complete instructional
and learning materials and is free from noise and other destructions. And of course a school with
high quality teachers.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

A classroom which is conducive to learning is clean, orderly, well-ventilated, well-lighted,
spacious that allows movements and free from unnecessary destruction. A classroom that has a
lot of reading materials that can be used by the learner to gain knowledge, and a room that has a
lot of pictures, quotes and proverbs that inspires them and benefits them to add their knowledge.

4. I n the future how will you accomplish your answer in number 3?

As a future teacher, I will make my classroom conducive to learning by providing a
complete learning and instructional materials. I will post different pictures for them to acquire
knowledge about it. I will arrange the furniture in where they will feel comfortable. I will also
make the classroom well-ventilated and well-lighted and arrange their seats with a purpose.
Lastly, I will be a good model to them in order to attain a conducive classroom environment.

5. Write your additional leanings and insights here.

A physical environment is clean and orderly can be
considered as conducive to learning. A non-threatening
classroom atmosphere wherever people feel they are respected
and accepted for who they are and for what they say and do is a
conducive atmosphere for learning. How much learning will
take place depends ultimately on the learner. Whether or not
she/he develops his potentials as a genius.

My Portfolio

My personal illustration of an effective school environment

An effective school must first be a place where students
can feel safe, physically and emotionally. It must be a
supportive community where kidsand teachersof all
backgrounds can focus on learning. To create a climate of
safety, halls and classrooms must be free of behaviour like
fighting, bullying, and harassment. That said, a safe
environment is not created merely through punishment.

An effective school
environment is well-
organized in all parts of
the school environment,
the school
is far from the
hazardous environment
that could contribute ill
effects to our health, a
child friendly school,
a school which accepts
everyone's opinion and
trying to choose the
best, a school who loves
the children and accept
who they are and what
they are.
A good school is one
that gives its students
good resources and lets
them achieve their full
potential. The teachers
have to be willing to give
their students advice on
how to improve the
standard of their
homework, and class
work, especially if the
student asks.

learners based on your
observations.

My Tools

Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.

An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics
Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space. Your teacher may also recommend another observation checklist if a more
detailed observation is preferred.

Physical
1. Observe their gross motor skills. How they carry themselves. How they move,
walk, run, go up the stairs, etc.
As I observe that students physical aspect regarding on their motor skills. I can say that they
all carry themselves properly but sometimes others are tend to be clumsy w/c is also acceptable
because they are too young at their age to make it perfectly. One thing I observed also in other
pupils that when they walk, they are like hitting each other.

2. Are gross movements clumsy or deliberate/ smooth?
The students gross movements, I can say that others moved or look clumsy on how they
carry themselves but there are also pupils that can carry themselves smoothly, deliberately.
3. How about their fine motors skills? Writing, drawing, etc.
When it comes to the students fine motor skills, they are very talented because most of
them are good in drawing and arts. I observed that when I asked them to draw anything they
want and I should say that make it very meaningful. Regarding with their writings, others are not
yet that good in the way they write but its good as far as it is readable for anyone.

Social
1. Describe how they interact with teachers and other adults.
As I first enter the Magtaking E.S, I felt very happy because I discovered that the pupils
are very sociable. They have catches my attention as they greet me as well as the teachers, and
principals. They are very respectful w/ others whom are older than them. I should say that it is
because they are being disciplined by their respective teachers and parents.

2. Note how they also interact with peers. What do they talk about? What are
their concerns?
The pupils are very friendly; they are very open w/ each other. They play and talks but
sometimes it creates quarrel. I observed that they are very sociable.

Emotional
1. Describe the emotional disposition or temperament of the learners. (happy,
sad, easily cries, mood-shifts)
The emotional disposition/ temperament of the learners that I encountered are moody,
most of the times they are happy but when they are being teased by their classmates, their mood
easily turns to be irritated/ sometimes they cry.

2. How do they express their wants/ needs? Can they wait?

Ive been observed that they are easily irritated. They cant wait with a long time.
When they have needs they want it to get as soon as possible.

3. How do they handle frustrations?

They are easily got mad and irritated. They cry every time they didnt get
what they want.

4. Describe their level of confidence as shown in their behaviour. Are they self-
conscious?
They are very active and some of them exceeded it. At their grade level I can
say that they are still self-conscious the way they carry themselves bad act I
should say that they are not yet matured enough.

Cognitive
1. Describe their ability to use words to communicate their ideas. Note their
language proficiency.
Some of them are not aware of uttering words. Some can be considered as
unprofessional.

2. Describe how they figure out things. Do they comprehend easily? Look for
evidence of their thinking skills.
Some of the pupils are slow learners because they hard to catch up things.
They are not yet fully melded and they dont have yet (HOTS) Higher Order Thinking Skills.

3. Were there opportunities for problem solving?

Yes, most of them are active in participating the math subjects specifically in
solving problems.

4. Describe how they shown problem solving abilities did.
They always engaged their selves in solving problems even though they are not
that good in math.

Therefore, teachers should not
expect preschoolers to stay
seated for a long period of
time.

My Reflections
1. While you were observing the learners, did you recall your own experiences when
you were their age? What similarities or differences do you have with the learners
you observed?

Yes, when I was in the age like them, I recall that just like them I am also a curious
child. I always ask questions and I want to get anything I want whenever I need it. One
thing I remember was when I was like them, I always cry inside the classroom because I
dont have to be left by my mother.
I am not that talkative, I just speak limitedly. I easily get mad when someone
teased me. I never stop crying until someone talk and comfort me. Im very much eager
to learn when I was a child. I am very friendly; I always play with my friends and
classmates.

2. Think of a teacher you cannot forget for positive or negative reasons. How did
she/he help or not help you with your needs (physical, emotional, social, and
cognitive)? How did it affect you?

As I recall my past I should say that the teacher I cannot forget until now
was my teacher in Grade 1. Since I was my first time in school, I see to myself that I
really dont want to go to school yet. Every time I go to school Im with my mother,
but that time my mother works and I have no choice to be alone with that I always
cry and nobody can stop me. But my teacher is always there thinking away to stop
me from crying. She always comfort me and saying that my mother will arrived at
school that shes just buying food for me I really appreciate what she have done for

me before, she became like my second mother, She always cares for me and every
time I need something shes always ready to be with me. I have learned a lot from
her because shes not just a good mother but a good teacher as well who fulfilled
my needs physically, emotionally, socially and mentally.

My Portfolio

Which is your favourite theory of development? How can this guide you as a future
teacher?

My favorite theory of development is theSocial Development Theory by Lev
Vygotsky(1896-1934). Because Social Development Theory of Vygotsky is argues that social
interactionprecedes development; consciousness and cognition is the end product of
socialization and social behavior of the students/ learners. Vygotskys theory is one of the
foundations of constructivism.
Social interaction plays a fundamental role in the process of cognitive development. In
contrast to Jean Piagets understanding of child development (in which development
necessarily precedeslearning), Vygotsky felt social learning precedes development. He states:
Every function in the
Childs cultural development appears twice: first, on the social level, and later, on the
individuallevel; first, between people (interpsychological) and then inside the child
(intrapsychological).
(Vygotsky, 1978).The social development of Vygotsky can guide me in as a future teacher
because thistheory is focused on the social interaction on the community and the behavior. As
a future teacher I need to learn on how to interact with different kinds of people in the school
and society. It can alsobuild myself confident as a teacher. I can also use tools that develop
from a culture, such as speechand writing, to mediate their social environments

Why is it important to study how children grow, learn, and change? An understanding
of child development is essential because it allows us to fully appreciate the cognitive,
emotional, physical, social, and educational growth that children go through from birth and into
early adulthood. Some of the major theories of child development are known as grand theories;
they attempt to describe every aspect of development, often using a stage approach. Others are
known as mini-theories; they instead focus only on a fairly limited aspect of development, such
as cognitive or social growth.

As future teacher I should say that it guides me in the teaching-learning process
wherein I will be the one who will give the learners human behaviour, thoughts and especially
their development physically, emotionally, and socially. It will make them improve their
personality specifically their attitude and behaviour.

FS 1 The Learners Development and
Environment
Episode 3
Classroom Management and Learning

My Map

Observe a Class
Using a checklist, find out the evident classroom components.
Describe how the classroom is structured/ designed to allow everyone to
participate in the learning activities
Relate the data in your checklist to the learners behaviour.
Reflect on how classroom management affects learning.

MY TOOLS

An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristic

1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their
ages.

As I observe the Grade III class, I should probably conclude that every learners differs
regarding with their behaviour. Simply because not all of them are with the same ages, I
observe that with their age that runs from 8-10, they are still on the level of having
difficulties in controlling their own behaviours. Same of the pupils are tend to be quiet
and easy to handle but most of them can be considered as not yet achieved maturity. They
still need support and guidance. They easily get mad with others at the same time hard to
reach span of attention.

2. How many boys are there? How many girls?

In the class of the grade III pupils which was handled by Mrs. Trinidad R. Biala is
consists of 20 boys and13 girls.

3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?

Regarding with the behaviour of the learners I have observe, they still not able to manage
their own behaviour. As I experienced being with them, I should say that they are still
hard to manage. They also need support and guidance from their teaches as well as to
their parents. The learners are also quite dependent to others especially to their adviser.

4. Can the Learners already work independently?

As I observed the learners, I should say that they all differ on their characteristics some of
them work independently but most of them are tend to depend on others especially when
the time comes that they have quizzes or exams especially seatwork. They are very
curious in everything. They tend to ask questions endlessly until they get the right
answer.

5. Describe their span of attention.

The learners especially on the child can be considered as a Potential Genius. It only
means that each of them have their own skills. When I am observing them I said to
myself that these children are hard to cope with, because as I can see teacher having
discussions and interactions with them I should say that it was hard to get their attention
at a time maybe because they differ with abilities, interests, aptitude, socioeconomic
backgrounds and of course on their attitudes. But on the other part students are easily to
motivate especially so when the one who managed them is a good model in all aspects.

6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.

The Grade III pupils that I observed are very eager to learn. You can see them their
willingness to learn but one thing I have seen to them is that they are easy to destruct
especially when the teacher trying to give lecture to them. When someone/seatmates talk
to them they easily lost their attention / listening skills and their ability to concentrate. So
I conclude that a child is truly having a short span of attention.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by questions as you do your observation of the classroom management it is also good
to ask the Teacher for the additional information so you can verify your observation.

1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids,
books, students belongings, supplies, etc?) Describe these areas.

Yes, there were areas in the classroom for specific purpose; there has been a storage of
teaching aids / instructional materials and learning materials as well such as books,
students belongings and supplies. I observed that these areas are well-organized and very
clear to see. It is because of the teachers which has very good strategies in maintaining its
orderliness. I have seen that the teacher doesnt want to managed by the students, she
only does assign one pupil to take charge of the things the they need when they have an
activity or even the teacher herself will be the one to take charge of it.

2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?

None, there are no rules posted in the room, but I should say that the teacher is always
reminding them for the rules to be implemented everyday which I appreciated most.
Because even though it was not written our posted, still the teacher has the power to force
the students to do it better and encourage them to follow the rules. With that I conclude
that the teacher was an effective classroom manager.

3. Did the Students participate in making the classroom rules? (Ask the Resource
Teacher.)

Yes, the students are very active to participate in making the classroom rules. I observe to
them the eagerness to follow the rules being implemented which is very much
appreciated. Sometimes when I forgot to tell / remind them about the rules, they were the
one who did it first or they do it voluntarily.
-Resource Teacher-

4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (Prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How they are done?

The daily routines done by the teacher inside the classroom were, first before their class
starts, they always clean their surroundings as well as their classroom until the bell rings.
After that they pray to open the class hours then the teacher checks the attendance, she
always ask her class the reason of her pupils for being absent in that they. She always
give assignments at the end of their lesson and always give activities at the middle of the
class to awaken their minds. I should say that these are all very acceptable. These are
done very good and very satisfying. The teacher and the students have great interactions
and communicate well as they understand each other.

5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of the arrangement?

Yes, there is a seating arrangement of the arrangement of the classroom I have observed
and as I ask the teacher, the basis of this arrangement is that through their behaviour, she
assigned them alternately by inserting boys between girls to avoid some problems like
being noisy , naughty, teasing each other or even cheating, generally to avoid
mischievous act of the learners

6. Observe the noise level in the Classroom. How is this managed?

As I observed the classroom of the grade III Pupils, sometimes they are very noisy until
they reach the points that their teacher was scolding them. They didnt mind on what they
are doing or if they are destructing others. But one thing I liked in this classroom is the
way the teacher managed her class. She is a very good classroom manager, I should say
because she can stop them from creating noise. She became the authority against the
learner. I like seeing the learner following their teacher with the rules and regulations
inside the classroom being implemented.

7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher do?
Describe the behaviour strategies used.

Whenever the learner is not following instructions, the teacher makes a move in order for
them to follow it. She always checks the learner if they understand what their teacher
discussed. The teacher used some strategies in order for them to be easily understand the
instruction so that they can follow it.

8. What does the Teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)

The teacher do some reinforcement for positive behaviour, she made rules for them to
follow and engaged them in an activity that will make them interested to learn. She also
obliged them to clean the classroom and the surrounding before and after the class. The
teacher disciplined them well and I can see her willingness to make her pupils motivated.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT MATRIX

Aspect of Classroom
Management

Description

Effect on the Learners
(to be filled up after you
answer the analysis questions)

1. Specific Areas in the
Classroom

Well-organize and arranged
properly
The learners became very eager
to learn when they are seeing
some areas in the classroom that
will help them in learning.

2. Classroom Rules

The classroom rules done with
a purpose.

They became more motivated to
follow the classroom rules in
which they will know their
responsibilities as a learner.

3. Classroom Procedures

These are well-done and very
purposeful for the learners.

These help the students know
their limitations as a student.

4. Daily Routines
The daily routines are always
applied by the teacher and the
pupils
They were able to do things
which sometimes they are not
doing at home.

5. Seating Arrangement

They are arranged according to
their behaviour. They seating
arrangement is good for the
learners.

They were able to avoid some
destruction in learning and made
them more focus on the
teachers discussions.

6. Handling misbehaviour/off-
task behaviour

The teacher is a very good
classroom manager in handling
her students misbehaviour/off-
tasks behaviour. She knows
when to show them seriousness
when someone misbehaved.

They were able to control their
behaviour and be disciplined
enough as a student or a learner
inside the classroom.

MY ANALYSIS

1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners behaviour?

The classroom organization and routines affects the learners behaviour. By these, the
learners should be able to do things that they did not encountered at home. All of these
help the learners develop their personalities in having discipline in all aspects.
They should be able to develop their abilities and skills and make them improve their
behaviour. In engaging those with these will make their learning possible. Every time
they do routines inside the classroom they also gain knowledge and skills through their
own.
It enhances their mind and body where you I should say that will benefit the students a
lot. Of course, all of these will happen when there is a strong relationship between the
learner and the teacher. The teacher must be responsible enough in handling her students
in order for her to be called as an effective teacher.

2. What designs should the Teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?

The teacher does her designs of the classroom organization and routines by
considering his students different abilities. A good classroom manager must think
first of the better strategies and methods that will give the students an organized
classroom routines. The learner must be the centre of the (T-LP), because they say
that everything you taught is for the learners sake.

7. Reinforcement of positive
behaviour

Very well-organize

It makes the learner changed
their bad attitudes or behaviour.
It became the reason of their
changes of discipline

8. Motivation

Very effective for the learners.

It is the very important thing in
the teaching-learning process
wherein the learner must be
motivated first before engaged
to learning

9. Extracurricular Activities

Done with a purpose

Make the learners became active
and sociable. It lessens their
shyness.

3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the
learners? In motivating students? Why were they effective?

In motivating students the best behaviour strategies is that as an educators
became more aware of different learning styles and issues, the approach to
motivating and managing behaviour became more open minded. Special needs
classes were developed to assist learning and behaviour issues, physical
punishment was frowned upon or even outlawed, and making lessons more exciting
to draw students in became more of the focus to motivate students. Having child
psychologists, social workers and special needs teachers became a standard to
understand the needs of the students as well as assist them when specific students
needed more intense support.

As this philosophy continued to develop, many of these same students were
mainstreamed into the regular class rooms. Today, teachers study different learning
styles so that they can be most effective in reaching their students and motivating
them to achieve their best, a far cry from the one size fits all approach to teaching
in earlier years.

MY Reflections

1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level
do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level? Why?

Teaching for me is not just a profession. It is a vocation. It requires self-sacrifice, and
being able to offer oneself for the sake of the students. This job may not be one of the
highest paid jobs in this world, but I think it is one of the most rewarding and self-fulfilling
job man has created. We will never have doctors, lawyers, architects, and any other
profession if not for a teacher who has taught and inspire students and save us from
ignorance.

Being a Teacher is not just for the money/salary you will earn, it is for us to share
knowledge, ideas, as well as experience that will truly inspire our student. A good teacher
must be competent, expert of his/her subject matter. They need to think creatively,
innovatively and resourcefully in order to make the class successful, has a command in the
medium of instruction, a manager of his/her own right inside the classroom and has
mastered the art of pedagogy. He/ She need to be prepared every day before he entered the
classroom. And of course a teacher cannot leave the house or enter the class without her
Lesson Plan which is the very important materials in teaching. Try to apply all the principles
in teaching and in learning.

As a future teacher I wish to win the hearts of my students. I want them to be inspired, to
be genuinely motivated to learn. I want them to remember me as a kind of teacher who has

made them learn not only as it is but rather by inspiration. To be honest, I would rather wish
to win the hearts of my students than to win the hearts of my superiors. I teach not for them
to be impressed of me, I teach for my students, for them to learn. This will be my key to
improve myself. I can see myself teaching a grade III pupils and I will make rules that
would fit them and make them well-motivated.

We should always consider our students. We need to be their second parents that will
look after them. We should level our teachings based on the level of intelligence of the
learner. That will be the things we need to remember when we enter the teaching profession.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose these rules?

The rules that I would likely implement in this level are:

Always greet teachers that you will encounter
Wearing uniforms and I.d are strictly needed
Points will be deducted if they did not do their assignments
Always clean their arm chairs and put their waste in their bags
They need to be on their proper seats before the class starts.
They should be in the classroom 15 before we start classes.
Do not be late
When they are sick, excuse letter is needed
Do what the teacher asks of you immediately
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Have a positive attitude and encourage your classmates.
Respect materials around you .
Raise your hand and sit quietly if you would like to be called on.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules?

Yes, the learners obeyed the rules that the teacher implement in the classroom. They
were able to meet my expectations from them. They are very good in following the rules
and regulations. It is really because the teacher can be considered as an effective
classroom manager. She is the authority in the classroom, I should say because her
pupils are very responsible and knows their limitations as a learner. They are really well-
motivated. The learners I have observed became my inspiration in continuing my dreams
of being a teacher someday. To impart knowledge and experiences to them.

MY PORTFOLIO

Include pictures here of the classroom /s you observed. Write descriptions/annotations
about what you observed in each photo.

These are the parts of the classroom I have observed. It has an orderly
and well-arranged instructional materials and learning materials. The Grade III pupils,
based on my observation are very well-motivated and participate actively with the
teachers discussions. The teacher and the learners are having great interactions inside
the classroom. It is because of the arrangement of classroom.
Based on my observation, I therefore conclude that the classroom
environment is conducive to learning. The pupils are very well-motivated with these
and they can learn a lot.

The Learners Development and
Environment
Episode 4
Individual Differences and Learners Interaction

MY MAP
The Learners individual differences and the type of interaction they bring surely affect the
quality of teaching and learning. This episode is about observing and gathering data to find out
how student diversity affects learning.
To reach your targets do the following tasks:

STEP 1. Observe a class in different parts of a school day. (Beginning of the day, class time,
recess, etc.)

STEP 2. Describe the characteristics of the learners in terms of age, gender, and social and
cultural diversity.

STEP 3. Describe the interaction that transpires inside and outside the classroom.

STEP 4. Interview your Resource Teacher about the principles and practices that she uses in
dealing with diversity in the classroom.

STEP 5. Analyze impact of individual differences on learners interaction.

My Tools

An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics

1. Find out the number of students. Gather data as to their ages, gender, racial
groups, religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Based on my observation there are 33 students in the grade (3) class. Their age range
runs from 8-9 years. The learners have their differences in abilities. Some of them have
good family backgrounds/socio-economic backgrounds. They act different compared
with those who have not experience peace. As I observe them, I should conclude that it is
very usual when the learners have their individual differences. The behaviour that they
have shown me is based from what they acquire on their environment. They much differ
with their socio-economic backgrounds and attitudes.

During Class:

1. How much interaction is there in the classroom? Describe how the students
interact with one another and with the teacher. Are there groups that
interact more with the teacher than others.

In the class I have observed, there is a great interactions between the learners and
the pupils inside the classroom. Every time the teacher asks questions, they have no
hesitations/ doubtless in answering it, thinking that they know everything. They
communicate with their teacher well even to their classmates. I have seen that not all of
them have great interactions with their teacher, some of them lost their self-confident,
and these are usually the low-achiever learners.

2. Observe the learners seated at the back and the front part of the room. Do
they behave and interact differently?

Based on my observations, the learners seating arrangement affects their
behaviour. The groups who seated at the back behave and interact differently with the
pupils seating in front of the room. I observed that those who are at the back are not able
to listen carefully with the teacher and lost their attention with what she have been
discussing. It is may be because there were so many destructions to them and they did not
able to hear what the teacher utters. While the learners who seat in front can focus on
their teacher and behave well because they are afraid to be scolded.

3. Describe the relationship among the learners. Do the learners cooperate with
or compete against each other?

The learners are really cooperative. They know how to go with others. They
communicate with each other and help who is need. I can see their unity and cooperation
especially where there is an activities or a topic that someone did not understand. They
work as one. With their ages and grade levels, I cannot see competing with others. They
do not even mind on their differences on thinking abilities.

4. Which students participate actively? Which students ask for most help?

The students who participates actively are the high-achiever learners or the fast
learners whom are having a strong self-confident. Those who ask for most help are the
pupils belong to the slow learners or what we called the low-achiever learners.

5. When a student is called and cannot answer the teachers question, do the
classmates try to help him? Or do they raise their hands so that the teacher
will call them instead?

Based on my observation, when the students are called and cannot answer the
questions given, there are learners knows the answer and raise their hands in to help or
save their classmates who o not know the answer. So that, the teacher will call them
instead. This is usually applied in every classroom and is very effective in the teaching
learning process.

Outside Class:

1. How do the students group themselves outside class? Homogenously, by age? By
gender? By racial or ethnic groups? Or are the students in mixed social groupings?
If so, describe the groupings.

The students group their selves differently. Some of them belongs to the group by their
life standing or by their racial or ethnics. But most of the learners do not mind of their
differences as long as they respect each other and having a good relationship with them.
there is a saying In Diversity, there is Unity which means, even though they differ in
their abilities, skills, talents, behaviour in physical appearance, still they came to be
united, and become much better because they can share what others dont have and dont
know.

2. Describe how the learners interact with each other? What do they talk about?

The learners interact with each others will. Usually they talk about something non-sense
at their age. there are times that they are having conversations about their experiences at
their house.

OBSERVATION REPORT

Name of School Observed: Magtaking Elementary School
School address: Brgy. Magtaking, San Carlos City, Pangasinan

In my observation, I observe the different learning capabilities of the students or learners in
terms of learning are concern, they are performing in the class, the behaviour and characteristics
of the learning. The students seated in front are performing well. The students have persevering
effort in studying their lesson and them also spending their time reading the books, and writing
their activities on the notebook. In the class the high- achieving are behave and focusing to study
his/ her notes. They spend their time inside the classroom. During their break time they stay
inside the room because they want to study the lesson. Reading and writing is their learning
habits to achieve his/ her goal in life.

The low-achieving students or learners dont have time reading and scanning their notes they
dont help themselves they dont even reviewing their previews topics.
The high achievers listen actively they cope with the lesson very well as far as learning is
concern. They respond to the question of the teacher. The low-achieving learner doesnt have
time to give their attentions to their teachers discussions.

The teachers method in addressing the needs of the students are the teacher always call the
attentions of the leaners. The teacher gives time and chance to the low- achieving learners to
recite. The teacher gives seat work to test the thinking skills of the students.

MY ANALYSIS

1. Identify the persons who play key roles in the relationships and interactions in the
classrooms. What roles do they play? Is there somebody who appears to be the
leader, a mascot/ joker, an attention seeker, a little teacher, a doubter/pessimist?

The persons who play key roles in the relationship and interactions in the
classrooms are the teachers and those learners that includes in the level of having Higher-
Order Thinking skills or (HOTS). These learners are assigned to be the leader to lead
their classmates and the teacher serves as the classroom manager. If there are leaders of
course there are members who play others role like being a joker in the class. They stand
out because they are needed to lessen boredness in the class. There are also learners
whom only do is to seek attentions of everyone just to join with them and see that they
belong to the group. The classroom also has a little teacher, a doubter or a pessimist.

2. Are students coming from the minority group accepted or rejected by the others?
How is this shown?

While I am observing the grade III pupils, I should say that they are very good
students because they know how to accept others as they are, even though they do not
know them very well. They are very friendly and hospitable. I can prove that because as I
first enter their classroom, they welcome me warmly and happily. They always greet me
every time I enter the room even outside the class. They talk to me as well and asking
anything about me which I appreciate most. all things that they had shown me kept on my
mind and it became one of my inspiration of being a teacher someday. I like the way they
act as a student. They are very respectful to others especially to their teachers. Their
naughtiness is nothing compared with what they have shown as that they are very well-
motivated learner.

3. How does the teacher influence the class interaction considering the individual
differences of the students?

Mrs. Trinidad R. Biala, my Resource Teacher has been a good model and
classroom manager to her class. She knows how to managed them well. I like the way
she imposed rules in the classroom especially so when the learners followed it. She does
get their attentions despite of the individual differences of the learners. She made all
motivated as I have seen because she strictly authorized them.

4. What factors influence the grouping of learners outside the classroom?

The grouping of learners outside the classroom is through their behaviour. Some
shows shyness, friendly, courageous, joker and others. But despite of all these, no one
can beat with the groupings of diversity which they can create unity.

My Reflections

1. How did you feel being in the classroom? Did you feel a sense of oneness or unity
among the learners and between the teacher and the learners?

Yes, in the classroom where I observed is can be considered as a second home for
me, while Im inside it, I didnt feel that Im others. Instead I felt to be a part of them.
They considered me as their teacher and friends as well. They welcome me warmly and
treat me nicely. I felt that I am belong with the group they did not show me
discriminations. They accept me as what I am which is very much appreciated, they
inspired me to be a good teacher and person to be kind-hearted. I felt respected with
them.

2. In the future, how would you want the learners in your classroom to interact? How
will you make this happen?

As a future teacher, I want the learners in my class to interact in good way and a good
teacher as well. I will make it by melding their behaviour and by reminding them on their
discipline. I will be a harsh-disciplinarian for them to be a good student in my class. I
would want them to be well-motivated by encouraging them to study and learn not only
from me but also from others. I would advise not to stop believing on themselves and
continue dreaming to achieve their goal, and of course love their parents who are the very
reason why they have given a chance to study especially to God who is always there to
guide them. the learners must be strong in facing any challenges in life. If they are good
to others they will succeed.

My Portfolio

A collection of quotations advocating for celebrating diversity in the classroom

In diversity, there is unity

"It's time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength."

" I don't care if your friends are green, brown, or purple, they are not allowed to drive your car without my permission"

"Black or White, don't make it right, because every answer has shades of gray."

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright some have weird
names, but they have all learned to live in the same box.

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are
equal in value no matter what their colour

We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race.

While we are bombarded with news reports of ethnic war and cultural domination, we miss out on one important lesson: unity
lies in diversity.

What we have to do... is to find a way to celebrate our diversity and debate our differences without fracturing our
communities.

If were not best that we should all think alike; it is difference of opinion that makes horse races.

Diversity may be the hardest thing for a society to live with, and perhaps the most dangerous thing for a society to be
without.

Difference is of the essence of humanity. Difference is an accident of birth and it should therefore never be the source of
hatred or conflict. The answer to difference is to respect it. Therein lays a most fundamental principle of peace: respect for
diversity.

Human diversity makes tolerance more than a virtue; it makes it a requirement for survival.

At bottom every man knows well enough that he is a unique being, only once on this earth; and by no extraordinary chance
will such a marvellously picturesque piece of diversity in unity as he is, ever be put together a second time.

Peace is not unity in similarity but unity in diversity, in the comparison and conciliation of differences

EPISODE 5
INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES AND LEARNERS
INTERACTION

MY MAP
To reach your target, do the following tasks:

4. Write a narrative report and a brief
reflection on your experience.

1. Observe two or more learners of different
abilities but from the same grade or year
level.

3. Observe them as they participate in a
classroom activity.

2. Find out some information about their
background.

My Tools

An Observations Guide for Individual Differences

Read the following carefully before you begin to observe. Then write your
observation report on the space provided.

1. Observe the class to see the differences in the abilities of the learners.
The grade III class that I observed have their differences in abilities. Some of them can
control their behavior while others cannot. You can see their differences on how they
carry themselves and how they managed their communication skills.

1. Try to identify the students who seem to be performing well and those that seem to
be behind.

The students who seem to be performing well behave well compared to others who are
not really performing well. They have much self-confident than they. I have seen also
that they can easily follow rules and instructions.

2. Validate your observations by asking the teacher about the background (family,
socioeconomic, presence of any learning disability, etc.)

They differ in the aspects of their attitude and behaviour. Some of them bring their family
problems at school and act as what they learn from their parents. I have my students who
are very behave in the classroom. She even ashamed of asking anything from me and
from her classmates it is maybe because she is lack of good family background and lack
of parents attention.

4. Observe the behavior of both the high achieving and low-achieving learners. Note
their dispositions, pace in accomplishing tasks, interaction with others.

The high achieving learners are the learners who act well rather than with the low-
achieving learners. They always show confidence in everything they do specially so
when they are in the classroom. The low-achieving learners sometimes lose their
confidence in communicating because they think of themselves as slow learners. Most of
them differ on their behaviour some of them acts as a well-motivated learner while others
didnt mind if they learn or not.

5. Observe the teachers method in addressing the individual learning needs of the
students.

The teacher sets a strategy that will fulfil the needs of his students and engaged with the
teaching-learning process. She applies the methods of teaching in which she teaches and
treated at them individually.
She always engaged them in an activity wherein they will learn how to stand alone and
have their self-assessment.
The learners are quite depending on what the teacher taught to them like what we called
spoon feeding.
The teacher sets a standard in teaching for the students to learn and acquire quality learning.
The learner tries to be independent in doing their classroom activities and sometimes think of
their own ideas as what the teacher reminded them.

My Analysis

1. Did your observation match the information given by the teacher? Were you able to
correctly identify who among the students performed well and who did not? What
behaviour helped you identify them? (Volunteering to answer, responding to the
teachers directions, etc.)

Yes, my observation matched with the information given by the teacher just like what she
told me, the learners differ in their behaviour. The students who perform well are the one
who has a strong self-confidence and who are active in participating in the classroom
activities and listen with the teachers' discussion.
The learners who did not perform well in contrast with them, they are lack of self-
confidence. They doubt on expressing their opinions and its hard for them to catch up
instructions. They are the naughtiest in the classroom.

2. Describe the differences in ability levels of the students in the class. Is there a wide
gap between the students who are performing well and those that are not?

Based on my observation, the grade III class there is a gap between the students who
perform well to those who are not. There were competitions between them especially
when they have an activity and examinations.

3. Describe the methods used by the teacher in handling the students differences in
abilities. How did the students respond to the teacher?

My Reflections

1. Recall the time when you were in the elementary or high school. Recall the high and
low achievers in your class. How did your teacher deal with differences in abilities?
Was your teacher effective?

I remember when I was in high school, just like now we differ in abilities and levels of
thinking.

When I was in elementary I recall that my teacher gives his/ her attention to the low-
achieving learners and the high- achieving learning teaches the low- achieving learners. The
teacher will be the one who expedite. Yes. My teacher is effective in teaching because they know
how to handle a big number of students inside one (1) classroom.
There are big differences on the way the other teachers treat students who belongs on the
group of fast learners rather than with the slow learners. Some of my teacher always focus and
give her attention to someone who excels in class. They are not paying attention to those who are
slow learners. But there are also teachers who treated as equally and know how to give chance to
others. They can easily manage us despite of our differences in abilities. They know how to
balance their teachings in order for us to understand the lesson well. My teacher was very
effective because she applied all the principles of teaching. She always checks if we are learning
from her. I really like the teacher who considers the abilities of his/her pupils because teaching is
not just sharing knowledge to them but rather to inspire the students by treating them well.

An effective teacher must be reader in every obstacle she will face. She must know his/her
limitations as a teacher. They must have thousands of miles of patience.
We should always consider our students. We need to be their second parents that will look
after them. We should level our teachings based on the level of intelligence of the learner. That
will be the things we need to remember when we enter the teaching profession.

Being a Teacher is not just for the money/salary you will earn, it is for us to share
knowledge, ideas, as well as experience that will truly inspire our student. A good teacher must
be competent, expert of his/her subject matter. They need to think creatively, innovatively and
resourcefully in order to make the class successful, has a command in the medium of instruction,
a manager of his/her own right inside the classroom and has mastered the art of pedagogy. He/
She need to be prepared every day before he entered the classroom. And of course a teacher
cannot leave the house or enter the class without her Lesson Plan which is the very important
materials in teaching. Try to apply all the principles in teaching and in learning.

My Portfolio

With the principle of individual differences in mind, what methods and strategies
will you remember in the future to ensure that you will be able to meet the needs of both
the high and low achievers in your class?

In principles of individual differences in mind, the methods and strategies that I remember in
the future to ensure that I will be able to meet the needs of both high and low achievers in my
class on the future is groupings or group activity because in group activity they can interact with
the different kinds of people and they can enhance their self-confidence. Through group activity
they can share their own idea, knowledge, skill, and experiences; they can also meet new friends
and peers/ colleagues. They can help one another to become progressive on their works ethics
and attitudes

With the principle of individual differences in mind, the methods and strategies that I will
remember in the future to ensure that I will be able to meet the needs of both the high and low
achievers in class on how research which investigates the interaction between learning abilities
and instructional treatments (Aptitude Treatment Interaction or ATI) should proceed. Previous
research related to ATI is evaluated in the context of the ATI premise that characteristics of
learners affect their attainment of educational goals (outcomes from treatments). Previous
research was found to be inadequate because of weak methodology, inappropriate hypotheses,
and lack of replication.
As a future teacher therefore, In order to meet the needs of my pupils both the low and
high achievers, I would treat them equally and no bias. I will make them understand my
teachings by levelling it with their thinking abilities. With the fast learners, I will assign them to
assist or teacher their classmates who did not understand the topics have been discussed.
I will apply the each one, teach one strategies. To help the low achievers levelled on
the others. In teaching, I must be fair enough to my students and make them feel that they have
all the same levels of thinking.

The teacher must be the one responsible of knowing his students well. Regarding with
their abilities, strength and weaknesses. If would reach this profession, I would wish to
win the hearts of my students. I want them to remember me as a kind and a good model
teacher and facilitator for them. Teaching is not just for the money/salary I will earn,
instead I will truly love this passion to share knowledge I have with my students. I will
make them inspired of me in order to continue dreaming to be somebody when the time
comes that already enters the most complicated part of life.

FS1 The Learners Development and
environment

Episode 6
HOME-SCHOOL LINK

My Map
To reach your target, do the following tasks:

Select a learner from the class whom you have observed.
Interview the teacher about the learners characteristics.
Conduct a home visit to your selected learners residence.
Interview the parents about
- The rules they implement at home concerning their childs schooling.
- the learners activities and behaviour while at home.
Describe the family in terms of
- Number of siblings.
- Number of siblings in school.
Identify the factors in the home environment that might affect the learners school
performance.
Reflect on how a teacher can communicate effectively with the home.

My Tools

Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.

Read the following carefully before you begin to observe/interview. Then write your
observation report in the provided space.
1. Make a general observation of the learner. Describe him in each of the domains
of development:

Physical-body built and height (thin, chubby, underweight, overweight), level
of physical activity (fast, slow, lethargic, active, etc.)
Social-interaction with teachers and classmates (loner, shy, sociable, friendly,
gets into a fight, like by others, etc.)
Emotional mood, temperament, cries easily, loses temper, happy, shows
enthusiasm, excited, indifferent, etc.)
Cognitive (appears to understand lessons, copes with the lessons, excels, lags
behind, shows skills, turns in assignments and requirements, etc.)

Base on my observation regarding with the physical appearance, she is thin and small.
She is underweight she moves slowly but she is very active in reciting and answering
problems on the board. With her social aspects, she is very respectful and greets teachers
whom she encountered every day. The learner is also very helpful to her teachers, classmates
and even to her friends. She is very sociable and always makes conversations with them.
Sometimes she is ashamed to mingle with others whom she does not know yet. She is a child
whom very sensitive to anything, she easily cries when someone teased her and laughs at her.
Every time she encountered someone that makes her always mad, she loses temper. But she
can be seen as a happy person and a very enthusiastic. Because she was the top of the class
she has a strong self-confidence. She mostly likes to recite and interact with her teacher and
that was her Emotional mood. Shalliah is a very intelligent child. She was the first honour of
in their class since Grade 1 until now. Many people admire her because of her dedications to
her studies. She likes reading her lesson at home and she joins contest in school, fortunately
belongs always on the top. She likes doing her assignments every day before doing
something. That was her in her cognitive aspects.

Interview the teacher
1. What are the most noticeable characteristics of the learner? (emotional
disposition, behaviour and discipline , sense of responsibility, study habits,
academic performance, relationship with peers, relationship with adults, social
adjustment)

An Observation/Interview Guide for Home-School Link

How does the teacher communicate with the parents? How often? What do they
discuss? Agree on?

The teacher is very particular with the parents of the learner for them to know how well
the child performs in school. When her pupils was absent, she always required them go in
school to talk to her and ask them their reason of being absent on that day. The teacher also
tells the parent anything about their child. It might be a problem or an improvement of their
performance.

Interview with Parents

1. Conduct a home visit. Once there, observe the home set-up. (Home is orderly,
family pictures in the living room).

When I came to visit the house of the learner. I have seen that the home set-up was good
and well-arranged. The mother of the learner is very much aware of how their house
looks like. Home is orderly and has a lot of beautiful displays and pictures in the living
room.

2. Use the interview Questions on the next page. Just ask the question with which
you feel comfortable.

but she admits that above all the subjects this is what she slightly didnt know. But she still joins
science contests.

How do you monitor his/her performance in school? How do you motivate him/her?

I always ask her every night on what she has learned in school and I always check her performance
inside the classroom. Im trying t help her with her assignments every time I noticed that she doesnt
know what shes doing or she hardly get the answer.
I motivate her by telling her not to give up and not to be ashamed of asking help from me. I always
encourage her to continue what shes doing because I know that she is a bright child. I always show
that Im very proud of her.

Do you have rules at home to help him/her develop good study habits?
What are these rules? How are they implemented?

Yes, I have some rules at home to help her develop her good study habits. Every night I asked her to
study her lesson/notes and have a review. I told her to do first her assignments before playing or
watching television. Instead of doing something, prioritize her studies first.

Physical Development
In paragraph form, describe physical development of the learner. Combine the teachers, parents
responses, and your own observations.
The learner is very neat and clean to see. She started to be curious with her physical appearance
at the age of 9 years. She is thin and small but terrible.
She is enthusiastic and the clothes that she wears fit her body. I observed that the way she carry
herself makes her matured enough.
Because of her thin body, she always gets sick and mostly experienced to be stocked at home.
Her appearance shows that even though she is not physically fit, still she can prove to everybody
that she can be a good pupils in the school where she id studying. That makes her more motivated
and feels thankful of having those talents.

Social Development
In paragraph form, describe the social development of the learner.
She is very friendly. She knows how to mingle or socialize with others well and very
helpful to her classmates and friends a well. She always shares everything that she has as I can see to
her. But sometimes she is behaved. She speaks limitedly but she is really a good speaker everytime she
answers the question of the teacher. She makes me believe in those aspects.

She easily got mad and irritated. She doesnt want to be embarrassed and to be teased by
anyone. I have seen also to her that she loves all her family and friends a lot. She easily cries
when she feels bad or not feeling well. She acts as a learner and respect her teacher very
much.

Cognitive development
Cognitive Development of the Learner

She has good thinking abilities. She is a bright child, good in memorization and she always
raises her hand during discussion of the teacher. She easily copes up with the subject matter. I
like the way she answer the teachers question because sometimes she doesnt depend on what
is in the book instead, she think of her own answer. She is good in academics as well as in
joining extracurricular activities.

Findings
Your Salient findings about The Learner.

The learner is a shy person but she is good in academics. She belongs on top and very
active in the classroom. She knows how to carry herself physically. I really like the way she teaches her
classmates with the topics they do not understand. The learner is very helpful and respectful.

Conclusions

I therefore conclude that in order for the child to be motivated, the classroom
environment must be conducive to learning. She must be good physically, emotionally,
spiritually and mentally, it should start with the learner and as well as to the parents.
The teacher must be a good model to them in order to make the learners to have a
good learning environment. Nobody can beat a teacher if his only goals is to teach his
pupils all what is good and effective. They must know how to treat her pupils equally and
no bias. I should say that the teacher is effective if the learners really apply what they
learn in real life. Action speaks louder than word, what is learning if you will not put it
into actions? Its useless. We must know everything to be a good teacher someday. Their
learning depends on what the teacher taught to them especially so with the parents. They
are the one to start teaching their child.

Recommendations

To all the parents, they must be also good parents to their child because what they
acquired at home can be applied also in school where they are studying. Every learner also
must be responsible on what they parents told to them to have good interactions with each
other. The learner is always curious with everything. The learner must know how to
communicate well with their teachers. Make the learner develops his/her thinking abilities as
well as her skills in all aspects.

As an addition, it is really important that a certain institution must have its own effective
environment. As a future educator, i could foresee the things that are highly needed in
enhancing ones school environment. It is not just that we are going to depend on others effort
but more likely, the preparation is in the teachers and the students too. In order to achieve
that effective school environment, the teachers must be guided accordingly by restructuring
his/her classroom, and let the students involved in the task. We cannot say that a school is
neglecting the efficiency of the institution. We all recognized the value of the learning
environment to our students ability to learn.

Sadly, our teachers are not trained to become interior designers and as such the typical
classroom is not the most of conducive of learning spaces. In the same manner, the school
must be clean, well- organized, attractive, and it is necessarily that it should be fully air
conditioned, much better so if the certain school can afford that but what I am trying to
emphasize is that it must be well- ventilated, must have the facilities that will minimize the
students murmuring that they are suffering from an extreme heat, crowded, and many other
excuses that most likely happened to destruct the students focus on the discussions.

My Analysis
Findings and Recommendations in the Learner Development Profile will
help you answer the questions here.

1. From your home visit and interview, what do you think style of parenting
experienced by the learner? Explain your answer.

Based on my observation, when I visit the house of the learner, the style of Parenting
experienced by the learner is Authoritative in which parents achieve a good blend. They are
firm yet loving. Have clear and reasonable expectations and limits for their children. Treat
children with respect and warmth. Make children understand consequence of their behaviour.

2. Relating your data with what you learned from child development, what family
factors do you think contribute to the development and over-all adjustments of
the learner in school.

Regarding with the data I have learned from the child and adolescent
development. The family factors that contribute to the development of the
learner in school. How they handle and disciplined their child. She has an
Authoritative parents which they are socially competent, self-reliant and have
greater ability to show self control. They have higher self-esteem and are better
adjusted.

3. Does the communication between the home-school have an effect on the
learner? If yes, what are these effects?

Yes, the communications between the home-school have an affects on the learner. With
these, they will be able to be guided by their parents well. It is because if they know their
childs performance in school, they will also know what changes or improvement do they
need to engage with their child or shall they maintain what they have practiced at home.

All learners are very curious to anything, as teachers we should know the learners problem
emotionally and spiritually.

My Reflections

1. Reflect on your own development as a child. What type of parenting did you experience?
How did it affect you?

When I was a child, I experienced to have an authoritative parent wherein my parents achieve a
good blend. They are firm yet loving. Have a clear and reasonable expectations and limits for their
children. Treat children with respect and warmth. They make me understand consequences of their
behaviour.

It affects me a lot because being my guardian; they are very supportive to me that am why I became
more competent and dedicative with my studies. They are very understanding even though sometimes I
do bad things I felt sorry with them then they accept it. I love the way they treated me as a child.
Because of them I came here at my age with a good attitude and respects with others.

Every time I have a problem they are always there to guide me. They became my inspiration in
finishing my studies and to be a good person. As a learner, I learned to be stronger in facing challenges
that I am encountering inside the school. I will be ever proud to my parents especially to my mother
who did everything just to reach my dreams and continue believing.

2. As a future teacher, how would you establish good home-school collaboration? How can you
work well with the parents? How can you help them? How can they help you?

As a future teacher, I would establish good home-school collaboration by starting to be a
good model to the learner. I should always tell or report the performance of my students to their
parents in order for them to know how well their child performs in school. I will also provide
them good information from their child. It will be very appreciated for me when the parents
communicate every day.
