The best loudspeaker isn t the one that gives

the most, its the one that loses the least.
When John Bowers set up his company
in 1966, his ambition was simple, yet
revolutionary. He wanted to create a
loudspeaker that neither added to nor took
away from the music. A speaker capable of
giving listeners nothing more or less than the
true sound of the original recording. In effect,
the perfect loudspeaker.
We ve been exploring the world of sound
ever since. During that time our technology
has evolved. O ur range of products has
expanded. But our mission remains the
same. To bring listeners closer to the sound
artists and engineers intended them to
hear. Whatever we make, we will never
stop pushing at the boundaries of acoustic
performance in pursuit of this goal. True
sound. Its a passion. O nce you have it, you
never lose it.
Two of the worlds most advanced recording
environments, each featuring Bowers & Wilkins
800 Series speakers. Left: Skywalker Sound in
M arin County, California. Above: Abbey Road
Studios in London.
In leading recording studios around the world,
music that will soon be heard everywhere is
heard rst through Bowers & Wilkins speakers.
Ever since it rst set new standards for sound
reproduction in the late 1970s, the Bowers &
Wilkins 800 Series has become the monitor
speaker of choice for manyof the worlds most
demanding recording studios.
For example, you ll nd our speakers at work
in the Skywalker Sound studios in M arin County,
California the place where blockbuster movie
soundtracks take shape. And at AbbeyRoad
Studios, the worlds most famous recording facility,
sound engineers relyon our speakers to capture
everydetail of performances byeveryone from Lady
Gaga to the London SymphonyO rchestra.
So you can depend on us to reproduce music
accurately. The people who recorded it alreadydo.
M asters of sound
We ve elevated the science of sound analysis
to a ne art at our research and development
lab in Steyning. For example, it was here at
the University of Sound that we developed
the system of laser-doppler velocimetry an
advanced measurement technique that allows
us to visualise patterns of vibration in speaker
diaphragms down to 1/ 3000 of a millimetre.
It was thanks to this pioneering technique
that we discovered the uniquely constant
dispersion pattern of K evlar

a quality that
makes it an ideal material for delivering a clean
sound at a wide range of frequencies. It has
become the material of choice for our midrange
speaker cones ever since.
University of Sound
Engineering innovation Constant progress requires constant innovation.
This principle was at the forefront of John
Bowers mind when he founded the University
of Sound, the rst facility entirely dedicated to
uncovering the secrets of acoustic behaviour.
Every discovery our scientists make
here from Nautilus tapering tubes to diamond
tweeter domes and M atrix

-reinforced cabinet
construction inuences how speakers all over
the world are designed and built. And each one
takes us a step closer to experiencing sound as
it was always meant to be heard.

Craftsmanship Part of the art of manufacturing is knowing
which parts of the production process are best
performed by people, and which by machines.
Its also about an intimate knowledge of the
properties of both synthetic and natural materials
and how best to apply them. So while robotics
and computers play a vital role in translating
the ideas of our designers and engineers into
reality, steady hands, watchful eyes and the
nest natural materials continue to take their
rightful place.
At our dedicated cabinet-making
factoryin the UK , state-of-the-art
technologyis fused with traditional
craftsmanship. While a 35mm
thick sheet of plyis pressed into
shape for the main cabinet body
of the 800 Series Diamond, its
final skin of real wood veneer is
selected by hand from only the
top 10% of veneers available. All
of the wood we use is sourced
from sustainable forests.
Its one thing to own a great pair of speakers,
but if you re as obsessed with true sound as we
are, your appreciation won t stop there. You ll
want to keep learning about it, listening to it,
exploring it and discussing it with others. Thats
where the Society of Sound comes in.
Set up by Bowers & Wilkins, the Society of
Sound is a meeting place for everyone who loves
sound. Its a place where musicians, artists,
designers, technicians and everyday enthusiasts
come together to share their knowledge and nd
out more about sound and what it can do. Its
also home to Society of Sound M usic, where you

We use them for almost everything:
working, socialising, playing
games, listening to music, watching
videos. So it seems a shame that
deskbound entertainment fans have
always had to make do with sub-
standard audio, either from their
computers built-in speakers or poor
quality monitors. No longer. M M -1
brings true Hi-Fi quality sound to
your desktop, giving your computer
the audio it deserves.
Hi-Fi and Home Cinema
It all comes down to this. O ur Hi-Fi and home theatre
speakers are the culmination of more than 50 years of
innovation in the eld of acoustics. From pioneering models
such as Nautilus to our entry-level 600 Series, these speakers
have redened the rules of Hi-Fi, revealing depth and detail in
your music you never knew existed. Its the reason you ll nd
them in some of the worlds most advanced recording studios
not to mention the homes of serious audio fans.
Nautilus
What you hear from Nautilus
is as different from ordinary
speakers as what you see. Its
sound and shape were created
by straight and spiralling
tapered tubes filled with
absorbent wadding, designed
to soak up wayward sound
waves from the back of each
drive unit and allow the sound
from the front to reach you in
as pure a state as you re ever
likely to hear.
M idnight Blue Silver Black
Nautilus is our touchstone: the result of
a groundbreaking, ve-year research and
development mission to achieve, as near as
possible, the perfect loudspeaker. The things
we learnt by developing something so new,
so different and so uncompromised have
become our own rules for speaker design,
and have informed every range we ve created
since. Thats down to advances in materials,
crossover components and cabling, and to its
pioneering use of tapering tubes in place of
the conventional box cabinet.
Nautilus is traditionallyavailable
in three off-the-shelf colours:
M idnight Blue, Black and Silver.
However, if you re prepared
to wait a little longer, we can
provide your speaker in any
colour you like. After all, if you
really want your Nautilus to
match the exact colour of your
car, or interior of your listening
room, who are we to argue?
800 Diamond
The speaker of choice for the worlds most
demanding recording studios, and a legend
among serious sound enthusiasts everywhere,
the 800 Diamond is the top speaker in the
range and very probably the finest speaker
you will ever hear. Quite simply, the ultimate
loudspeaker.

One material sums up our quest for perfection
in sound reproduction more than any other.
Diamond. Its the ultimate tweeter material and
the magic ingredient in our agship 800 Series
Diamond. Its part of the reason why the speaker
has become a legend among professional
recording studios and serious sound enthusiasts
alike. And now, for the rst time, you can hear
the incredible precision and clarity of diamond in
every speaker in the range. The very best just got
even better. And perfection just got even closer.
800 Series Diamond
Piano Black Gloss Cherrywood Rosenut
802 Diamond
If youre looking for a speaker with the
power, clarity and presence of the mighty
800 Diamond, but your listening area cant
quite accommodate its studio-sized
proportions, the 802 Diamond is the answer.
Retaining the groundbreaking spherical head
design of its bigger brother, its the closest
youll get to true studio sound at home.
803 Diamond
The 803 Diamond might look almost as
imposing as the 802 Diamond, but thanks
to its smaller footprint and more traditional
cabinet design, it will fit more comfortably into
a home environment. With three massive 7in
Rohacell

bass drivers, it delivers almost as

much bass as the 802 Diamond, filling even
the largest of domestic rooms with rich,
stunningly lifelike sound.
804 Diamond
As versatile as its smaller brother the
805 Diamond, the elegant, floorstanding
804 Diamond has an even more commanding
acoustic presence, thanks to a true three-way
design incorporating two Rohacell bass units,
an FST midrange and a diamond dome tweeter
delivering pin-sharp clarity all the way up the
frequency range. A brilliant all-round performer
for any occasion.

800 Series Diamond
805Diamond
You asked for it. And now you ve got it.
The 805 Diamond is an industryworld-first the
onlyspeaker of its size and type to incorporate
true studio-grade technology in the form
of a diamond dome tweeter. Experience
remarkable, lifelike sound from a discreet
speaker that fits almost anywhere. (Separate
floor stand in black or silver available)
HTM2Diamond
If you re looking for a centre-channel dialogue
speaker to use as part of an 800 Series
Diamond home theatre set-up, HTM 2 Diamond
provides all the clarity and richness you need
for larger viewing spaces. Thats down to a
three-way design featuring two dedicated bass
drivers, our FST midrange and, of course, a
diamond dome tweeter.
DB1
If you re serious about home cinema, you re
going to need a seriously good subwoofer.
Combining power with wonderful subtlety and
control, the DB1 sub is the perfect partner for
an 800 Series Diamond home theatre set-up.
Plus, its agility and musicality make DB1 the
ideal high-end Hi-Fi subwoofer.
HTM4Diamond
Perfect for smaller viewing areas, the compact
HTM 4 Diamond centre-channel speaker will
seamlessly balance the sound in an 800 Series
Diamond home theatre set-up, thanks to highly
advanced, complementary technology like a
K evlar bass/midrange driver and for the first
time ever a diamond dome tweeter.
PM 1
The Nautilus tube-loaded tweeter on top,
the curved baffle; these are all included
for technological, audio-related reasons.
But they also come together visually, to create
an aesthetically pleasing whole. Add to that
the M ocha G loss wood panels and matching
stand, and we re confident that PM 1
is not only the most refined sounding small
speaker we have ever produced. Its also
one of the most desirable.
O ur experiments with diamond dome tweeters
proved that raising the break-up frequency
beyond the audible threshold of 20kHz created
a tweeter that sounded far truer and more
natural to the human ear.
With a break-up frequency of 30kHz, our
aluminium dome tweeters already push sound
quality well above the upper limits of the audible
range. But inspired by what we ve learned
about diamond, we wanted to see if we could
do even better for PM 1. The result is an entirely
new type of tweeter dome. By bracing the
dome with a ring of filament-wound carbon
fibre, we ve raised the break-up frequency of
aluminium to 40kHz.
The end result is that PM 1 features the
sweetest-sounding aluminium dome tweeter
we ve yet produced.
M ocha G loss
In technological design, simplicity is a
virtue. It doesn t matter if you re building a
supercomputer, a bicycle, or a loudspeaker:
the simpler and less complicated the design,
the better each individual component can
afford to be. PM 1 is a perfect example.
With PM 1, we ve taken the principle of
the mini-monitor and rened it to its purest
essentials. Thanks to the simplicity of its
two-way design, we ve been able to rethink
and improve nearly every component of the
speaker, from the construction of the cabinet
to the drive units and electronic circuitry within.
So while the design of PM 1 might be simple,
the stunning richness and detail of the sound it
produces is anything but.
CM9
This imposing floorstanding speaker will
fill even the largest domestic spaces with
spectacularly detailed, rich and lifelike sound.
The three-way CM 9 delivers truly commanding
bass with the aid of twin 165mm (6. 5in) paper/
K evlar cone drive units. The FST driver is
specially developed for outstanding midrange
performance, while the CM 9s Nautilus tube-
loaded aluminium dome tweeter keeps high
frequencies crisp and sharp.
CM10
The top-of-the-range CM 10 breaks the mould
for the CM Series its the only speaker in the
range to incorporate the pioneering tweeter-on-
top design found in our flagship 800 Diamond
Series. And thats not the only feature this
three-way floorstander shares in common with
its studio-quality cousins. As with 800 Series
Diamond speakers, the FST midrange driver
is decoupled from the cabinet, resulting in the
purest possible midrange frequencies, with
minimum coloration from the speakers three
mighty paper/K evlar bass units.
CM Series No articial additives. Thats been our approach
to sound quality from the very beginning. Its
the same with the CM Series. By using our
most rened drive unit technologies, developed
for reference-standard speakers such as the
800 Series Diamond, we ve been able to hone
the speaker down to its purest essentials.
The CM Series uses minimalist crossovers of
remarkable simplicity and quality, so what you
hear is that much closer to the sound of the
original recording. In its functional perfection and
understated elegance, its nothing less than a
masterpiece. Pure and simple.
CM1
CM 1 may be small, but thanks to the quality
of its construction, its capable of producing a
sound thats a match for its bigger brothers.
The partnership of a 130mm (5in) K evlar
cone bass/midrange driver with a Nautilus
tube-loaded aluminium dome tweeter helps
the speaker handle musical detail with ease
across the full frequency spectrum. CM 1s
bass is always deep and under control thanks
to the CM Series magnet and voice coil
system technology, which keeps distortion to
a minimum.
CM5
O n a bookshelf or a speaker stand, CM 5 will
give you a wonderfully big, expansive sound
even if you don t have the floorspace to match.
Its a slightly larger speaker than its sibling CM 1,
with even higher sensitivity and power handling,
and improved bass extension. It partners
a sizable 165mm (6. 5in) K evlar cone bass/
midrange driver with a Nautilus tube-loaded
aluminium dome tweeter.
CM8
An elegantly proportioned, slimmed down
version of the award-winning CM 9, the true
three-way CM 8 will appeal to discerning
customers who demand the very best sound
quality, but have limited space in which to
achieve it. An FST driver reveals layers of
breathtaking detail in the midrange, while two
130mm paper/K evlar bass drivers ensure deep,
powerful bass. Like all the models in the CM
Series, the CM 8 uses crossovers of remarkable
simplicity and quality.

capable of adding bass depth to Hi-Fi and
home theatre systems, it provides flexibility for
customers looking for a complete CM home
theatre system in a larger room. The 12-inch
dual voice coil paper/K evlar driver is driven
and controlled by an efficient 500W audiophile
standard Class D amplifier.
(G loss Black only)
CMCentre2
If you want to get the most from your movies,
CM Centre 2 is an ideal match for a pair of
floorstanding CM 9s or CM 10s in larger home
theatre set-ups. The three-way centre channel
speaker features a similar driver line-up to CM 9,
including two 165mm (6. 5in) paper/K evlar
cone bass drive units and a Nautilus tube-
loaded aluminium dome tweeter. In order to
keep cabinet height to a minimum, the speaker
uses a slightly smaller 100mm (4in) K evlar FST
midrange driver.
CMCentre
This home theatre centre channel speaker
thinks its a Hi-Fi monitor. And it is. CM Centres
symmetrically arranged driver line-up of twin
130mm (5in) K evlar cone bass/ midrange
units and a 25mm (1in) Nautilus tube-loaded
aluminium dome tweeter are integrated by a
minimalist, ear-tuned, first-order network made
possible by the remarkably wide bandwidth
of the drivers. CM Centre makes music that
is a seamless, cohesive whole and displays a
striking ability to resolve fine detail.

600 Series O n its debut in the mid-1990s, the original
600 Series swept up ve-star reviews and
product of the year awards for its affordable,
audible brilliance. Since then, as new editions
have appeared, its been the same story. The
latest 600 Series the fourth generation shares
yet more leading-edge technologies with our
top-of-the range 800 Series Diamond. Theres
a choice of nishes, a clean, modern look and
a step forward in sound quality that raises the
bar to a whole new level.
684
A versatile speaker designed for medium to
large rooms, the floorstanding 684 adds a
bass-only driver to 685 configuration, taking
much of the load off the K evlar bass/ midrange
unit. The introduction of a minimalist, 1st-order
crossover means that what you hear is that
much closer to what was recorded.
685
For Hi-Fi or home theatre in small to medium-
sized rooms, you need a loudspeaker that
doesn t take up floor area, but whose sound
can still command the space. You ll find
685, which can sit on a shelf, table or stand
or be wall mounted, an inspired choice. It
combines a 165mm (6. 5in) woven K evlar cone
bass/ midrange driver, a Nautilus tube-loaded
tweeter, internal bracing for reduced coloration
and Flowport for clean, punchy bass.
683
Suited to larger rooms, the imposing 683 is
a full 3-way system, which for the first time
in a 600 Series speaker includes FST cone
surround technology for extra detail and
resolution. All the nuances and intensities of
movie sound and music are brought to life by
the combination of a Nautilus tube-loaded
tweeter, dedicated K evlar FST cone midrange
and twin 165mm (6. 5in) aluminium / paper/ K evlar
composite cone bass drivers.
686
686 is the baby of the 600 Series bunch, but
doesn t lack the technologies and features to
deliver outrageously good sound in smaller
rooms. The 130mm (5in) diameter K evlar cone
bass/midrange is based on a tried-and-trusted
Bowers & Wilkins design and its new fixed
centre bullet helps to smooth the response in
upper frequencies. The Nautilus tube-loaded,
aluminium dome tweeter, featuring a new
surround material to improve spaciousness and
imaging, adds needle-sharp top end.

DS3 is a wall-mounted surround speaker that
can operate in whats called dipole mode, to
create an authentic all-enveloping effect of the
auditorium in a large space. O r, you may prefer
to switch to conventional monopole operation,
in which the sound from side or rear is more
precisely located and less diffuse. The choice
depends on the room conditions, the size of the
audience and the kind of material on view.

ASW608
For big sound in smaller spaces, you can t
beat ASW608, the most compact of the 600

DB1 Combining awesome power and wonderful
responsiveness, the DB1 is unlike any subwoofer
you may have seen or heard before.
In fact, we think its the best you ll hear
anywhere. For a start, the DB1 has not one but
two opposing 12-inch long-throw drivers. With
more output power than a single 15-inch driver,
their balanced drive conguration cancels out
structural vibration. Then theres the fact that
the DB1 has its own 1000W digital amplier,
ensuring staggeringly low frequencies from such
a compact speaker.
DB1 is also designed for the subtle things in life.
The control of Digital Signal Processing keeps
the output dynamic and accurate whatever
you are watching. The setup menu lets you
optimise the speaker for different applications,
such as movies and music, or different listener
preferences.
And did we say the best anywhere? It
even comes with equalisation software that
automatically ne-tunes the speaker to match
the unique character of your listening room.
Power. Responsiveness. Control. Put them
together, and you ve got a subwoofer that
sounds like no other.
Takecontrol
A small display on the front
of the amplifier gives you
complete control over the
subwoofers settings. You
can make adjustments
depending on your personal
listening preferences, or
optimise the speaker for
whatever you re listening to:
music, movies or games.

When you ve pushed the boundaries of
technological design further than anyone thought
possible, what do you do? Simple: you keep
pushing. By introducing a digital dimension for
the upgraded PV1D, we think we ve gone one
better than the original, ground-breaking PV1.
Thanks to the adoption of this new digital
platform, the subwoofer can now be ne-
tuned and controlled with more precision than
ever before. Do you love the visceral deep-
bass impact of special movie sound effects?
O r maybe you prefer a atter response, to
compensate for a more resonant listening
environment? Whatever your listening tastes,
with a full range of EQ options at your disposal,
the choice is entirely up to you.
PV1D
M atte White with

The PV1Ds inherent stabilitymeans it can be
pushed just that bit further. The symmetrical
mounting of its twin drive units keeps the
subwoofer perfectlybalanced and anchored to
the oor. So theres no rattle when it rumbles. The
back-to-back arrangement also further improves
the distribution of pressure inside the speaker.
Coupled to an all-new amplier generating 400
Watts of power, the drivers have the dynamics and
control to deliver all a subwoofer should. A big
sound from a small bubble.
When we decided to create a new, powerful,
compact subwoofer for use in home theatre
set-ups, we weren t going to contradict nature.
Instead of a box, we based it on a bubble; the
natural way of containing internal pressures
without resorting to corners and edges. Its a
beautiful solution to the problems that plague
conventional subwoofers. In the PV1D, the
tremendous air pressures that stress the panels
of normal, at-sided subs at higher output
levels are dispersed evenly around a rigid,
continuous shell, reducing unwanted vibrations
to a bare minimum.

Custom Installation
Hide the hardware, reveal the true quality of your music.
Each model in our Custom Theatre and Custom Installation
ranges are designed to vanish into walls and ceilings, tting
virtually ush to the surface with minimal visual impact. But
while these speakers disappear from view, advanced Bowers
& Wilkins technologies ensure the sound they produce is
anything but shy and retiring. From two-channel Hi-Fi to
multi-room sound systems and Home Cinema, experience a
sound thats quite simply out of sight.
Custom Theatre 800 Series The CT800 system brings the advanced audio
technologies and craftsmanship found in our
agship 800 Series Diamond Hi-Fi speakers
directlyto your home theatre set-up. O nce
installed, the speakers are virtuallyinvisible. Whats
impossible to ignore is the quality. Everypin-drop,
staircase creak and earth-shaking explosion is
delivered with such extraordinaryclarity, depth and
control that it will leave you speechless. CT800
speakers maybe the most sophisticated pieces of
kit you ll ever keep in a cupboard. And you won t
ever want to take them out.
CT8LR
At the heart of this front channel speaker is
technology borrowed directly from our flagship
800 Series Diamond: twin Rohacell bass
drivers, a woven K evlar FST midrange driver
and a metal dome high-frequency tweeter. The
spherical midrange/ tweeter head can be angled
for perfect alignment with the listening area.
CT8CC
The CT8 CC centre speaker borrows its
Nautilus-inspired driver line-up from the
CT8 LR front speaker. The same Rohacell bass
drivers, woven K evlar FST midrange driver
and metal dome high-frequency tweeter are
employed, but arranged with the twin bass
drivers positioned either side of the combined
midrange and high-frequency adjustable pod.
CT8SW
Used with each CT8 LR, this passive subwoofer
is designed to extend the front channel speakers
bandwidth down to 13Hz, perfectlyreproducing
low frequencysignals without compromising
dynamics and imaging. Closed-box loading,
a 380mm (15in) Rohacell driver and a 70 litre
M atrix braced enclosure mean home theatre
bass will never be quite the same again.
CT8DS
To generate an authentically three-dimensional
listening experience, the CT8 DS surround
speaker offers both dipole and monopole
surround dispersion. Along with forward-facing
K evlar FST midrange and metal-dome high-
frequency drivers, the CT8 DS also carries side-
facing K evlar midrange/ high-frequency drivers.
CT8.4LCRS
The CT8. 4 LCRS is designed as an alternative
to the CT8 DS when space is at a premium:
its a smaller, more compact vertical surround
sound speaker that generates a similarly 3D
experience. It also packs enough power to act
as a stand-alone loudspeaker when positioned
front, side or rear.
CT8XOMk2
The CT8 XO M k2 is the conductor for the
CT800 home theatre orchestra: an active
crossover/ equaliser providing all the necessary
filtering and control functions to make sure
that your system sings in perfect harmony.
CT8.2LCR
The CT8. 2 LCR is the latest addition to the very
successful CT800 Series. Its unique modular
baffle design allows for it to be used as a LCR
speaker in either vertical or horizontal positions.
It features: twin Paper/K evlar bass drivers,
a woven K evlar FST midrange driver and
a metal dome high-frequency tweeter in a
passive crossover design.
Custom Theatre Subwoofers G reat bass can be the difference between
hearing a lm and really feeling it. For the kind of
thrilling physical impact that sets the adrenalin
pumping and the blood racing, theres no
substitute for a good subwoofer. So however
big or small your Custom Theatre set-up, you ll
be glad to know we ve got the sub to match.
Featuring a closed-box design that makes them
easy to install in cabinetry, each model provides
the dynamics and control needed to handle the
most powerful movie effects, from big explosions
to the sweep of an orchestral score. All thats left
for you to do is hang on to your seat.
CT7.3LCRS
The top-of-the-range speaker offers
unparalleled clarity combined with powerful
low frequency effects thanks to a pair of
whopping 200mm (8in) paper/ K evlar bass
units and a dedicated K evlar FST midrange.
CT7.4LCRS
The mid-point speaker in the range offers
a combination of high sensitivity and impressive
performance at lower frequencies through its
two 150mm (6in) K evlar bass/ midrange drivers.
CT7.5LCRS
The entry-level loudspeaker in the CT700 Series
delivers outstanding spaciousness, imaging
and definition through its single 180mm (7in)
K evlar bass/ midrange unit.
Custom Theatre 700 Series If you thought that true cinema sound was
beyond the reach of all but the most committed
audiophiles, think again. The entry-level
CT700 system refuses to compromise a single
decibel on quality, borrowing Nautilus-derived
technology such as tube-loaded tweeters and
K evlar drive units from our best Hi-Fi speakers.
Each model in the range integrates seamlessly
with home theatre cabinetry and is versatile
enough to be used in left, centre, right or
surround sound positions. Put together, they
add a whole new dimension to your enjoyment
of home theatre.
CT SW10
The most compact of our three Custom
Theatre subs features a 250mm (10in) long-
throw paper/K evlar cone.
CT SW12
Where space is at a premium, the CT SW12
features a slightlysmaller 300mm (12in) long-
throw cone made from paper/K evlar composite.
Subwoofer Amplifier SA1000
The SA1000s equalisation is custom-tailored
to the Custom Theatre Subwoofers, ensuring
deep-bass extension all the way to 16Hz. And
why stop at just one subwoofer? For really
serious bass, its possible to use the SA1000 to
power two subs simultaneously.
CT SW15
For maximum bass impact, the CT SW15
comes with a 380mm (15in) long-throw cone,
made from paper/K evlar composite.
Custom Installation
800 Series
To raise the bar, sometimes its necessary to go
back to basics. So when we set out to create
the ultimate custom-installed speaker range,
we didnt rely on previous speaker designs or
drive unit technology. Instead, we started from
scratch, designing and building an entirely new
system from the ground up. As a result, weve
created something that no-one thought possible:
architectural speakers capable of delivering
the kind of sound quality normally found only in
dedicated, ultra high-performance oorstanders.
The culmination of a ve-year research and
development project, the CI 800 Series is without
question the best-sounding custom installation
range we have ever designed. Whether youre
using them for music or as part of a home
theatre system, they are a perfect sonic match
for our high-end Hi-Fi and cinema speakers, the
800 Series Diamond and the CT800. Meanwhile,
ingenious back box design means that they will
disappear quickly and cleanly into walls and
ceilings, with zero visual intrusion.
Tweeter
Fine-tuned to match the acoustic qualities
of the CT800 Series, the CI 800 tweeter
reveals stunning levels of detail, presence
and air perfect for portraying a sense of
atmosphere in movie surround sound. In all
CI 800 models the tweeter is carbon braced,
and mechanically isolated so that mid and bass
energy cant colour the sound of the delicate
high frequencies.
Mid and bass drivers
The Kevlar bass driver in the CCM8.5 and
CWM8.5 models employs exactly the same
technology as the drive units in the world-
renowned 800 Series Diamond, used by
studios such as Abbey Road. The CWM8.3
loudspeaker uses a blue Kevlar mid range
driver and extends this with two additional
Rohacell bass drivers for even deeper, tighter
bass performance. Anti-resonance plugs
dampen coil resonances, further improving
the linearity and neutrality of each speakers
musical performance.
Crossover
The CI 800 crossovers are bespoke designs,
using very high quality components. Each
crossover is designed with the driver it will feed,
to ensure the whole assembly works in harmony
to deliver the highest levels of performance
possible. This holistic crossover design
approach produces an outstandingly natural,
honest and faithful sound.
CWM8.3, CWM8.5 and CCM8.5
The CI 800 range comprises three models,
each designed for a specific task. The CWM8.3
is an in-wall speaker for very high performance
cinema and music applications, particularly the
front three channels of a home theatre. The
CWM8.5 in-wall speaker offers a stunning level
of performance for music and movies, where
space is more limited. The CCM8.5 in-ceiling
speaker delivers a directable sound stage into
any area of the room, ideal for the rear channels
in a home cinema set-up.
Installation
Each speaker in the CI 800 range is designed to
make installation as quick and easy as possible.
Installation is a simple, two-stage process. At
first fix, the back box is fitted into the wall, and
cables are terminated into the box. At second
fix, the baffle (including the drivers) is inserted
into the back box with a multi-pin connector
carrying all cable connections. Finally, the
baffle board is secured with push and turn
connectors, which secure and seal the baffle
board in one movement.
Reservoir box
CI 700 Series speakers can be retrofitted into
ceilings and walls (as long as they are hollow) so
there is no extra construction necessary. O ften
when retrofitting a speaker you can only add
a back box of the same dimensions as the cut
out, thus reducing rear volume. To overcome
this problem we have developed a hinged
reservoir box that can be attached to either side
of the back box, which can slide behind the wall
above or below the cut out. This significantly
increases the available rear volume.
Custom Installation
700 Series
If you think compromise comes as standard
with custom installed speakers, you ve yet to
experience our CI 700 Series. We ve come up
with ingenious features to compensate for the
acoustic deciencies of brick and plasterboard,
like rigid back boxes and speciallydesigned
bafes. And we ve incorporated our advanced
acoustic innovations, like FST drivers and Flowport
vent systems. You ll be amazed how much
technologywe can pack into walls and ceilings.
No wonder theres no room for compromise.
CWM7.3, CWM7.4andCWM7.5
These exceptional in-wall units are packed full
of technology that makes them more than a
match for most free-standing Hi-Fi speakers.
The CWM 7. 5 and the CWM 7. 4 both feature
Nautilus tube-loaded tweeters and K evlar bass/
midrange drivers, while the mighty three-way
CWM 7. 3 has a dedicated K evlar FST cone for
stunning definition in the midrange, and two
Paper/K evlar bass drivers for truly commanding
bass impact and presence.
CCM7.3, CCM7.4andCCM7.5
Behind the barely noticeable grille of these
in-ceiling speakers is some seriously
advanced acoustic technology. The three-
way CCM 7. 3, for example, features a
dedicated K evlar midrange driver with an FST
surround. We ve also introduced some new
innovations designed especially for this range:
enhancements like angled, ultra-rigid baffles,
and a unique scallop-shaped indentation
under the tweeter for minimum distortion at
high frequencies.
Flowport
For a bass drive unit to operate effectively
the air pressure inside the back box needs
to be regulated and thats where our Flowport
comes in. It is the lungs of the speaker and
gives the bass driver the air to breathe. The
dimples help reduce the friction between the
surface of the Flowport and the air passing over
it. The combination of the Flowport and the
dimpled surface create a huge improvement
over more traditional designs.
Tweeter
Some of our most innovative technologies take
their inspiration from nature. For the body of our
Nautilus speaker, for example, we created
a spiralling, conch-like form that drains away
all excess sound from the rear of the driver,
rather than letting it bounce noisily around the
cabinet. The result? Almost zero coloration
from the back of the speaker, and a much purer
sound from the front. The Nautilus tube-loaded
tweeter has been incorporated into our CT700
Series and now has been introduced to the
CI 700 Series.
FST
The FST midrange driver is a ring of foam
whose mechanical properties exactly match
those of the woven K evlar cone. With a
conventional roll surround the sound waves
would be reflected into the cone and smudge
the sound. The FST soaks them up, like a
circular shock absorber around the cones
edge. This allows the cone to be more
responsive and to move more freely creating
an unbeatable midrange.

Custom Installation
600 Series
With the Custom Installation 600 Series, you
can forget about cabinets and cables: every
model in the range is designed to be concealed
neatly inside a wall or ceiling. Thanks to clever
new features like our Q uickDog
TM
xing mechanism
and plug-and-play connectivity, installation
couldn t be easier and thanks to our super-thin
bezels the speakers are barely noticeable. But
with high performance technologies like K evlar
drive units and Nautilus tweeters, they produce
a sound thats impossible to ignore.
CCM662, CCM663, CCM664andCCM665
Discreet, versatile and fantastically easy to
install, these two-way, six-inch in-ceiling
speakers will bring great sound to places other
speakers can t reach. But while they re small
enough to fit almost anywhere, they also pack a
powerful punch: the CCM 662 and the CCM 663,
for example, feature true audiophile-standard
technology in the form of Nautilus Swirl-loaded
aluminium dome tweeters and blue K evlar bass/
midrange cones.
CCM682, CCM683andCCM684
The largest of the Custom Installation
600 Series in-ceiling range, these two-way
speakers bring you an amazingly rich, full-
bodied sound, courtesy of their sizable eight-
inch bass/midrange cones. The CCM 682 is
capable of handling an impressive 150W of
power, and both the CCM 682 and the CCM 683
feature Nautilus Swirl-loaded aluminium dome
tweeters and blue K evlar bass/midrange cones.
CCM663SR andCCM664SR
These are the dual-channel in-ceiling speakers
in the Custom Installation 600 Series range. A
clever design bringing together two voice coils
and two tweeters, meaning you can experience
pseudo stereo sound from just one speaker.
They re ideal for bringing stereo sound to
rooms where space is limited, or as a discreet
option for the surround sound channel in a
home theatre set-up (you can change between
these two modes at the flick of a switch).
The CCM 663SR features a blue K evlar bass/
midrange cone.
CWM663, CWM664andCWM652
We ve brought some of our most refined
technologyto these neat in-wall speakers,
so you can enjoyserious Hi-Fi sound quality
from a system thats close to invisible. All three
speakers in the range have tweeters featuring
our famous Nautilus tube-loaded design a
true audiophile-grade piece of technologythat
helps to minimise sound colouration. We haven t
stinted on technologyeven for the smallest
speaker in the range: the CWM 652 is equipped
with a blue K evlar bass/midrange driver.
Minimal bezels
For the Custom Installation 600 Series,
we ve come up with some special aesthetic
enhancements that help the speakers blend
perfectly into the background. For example,
all the speakers incorporate bezels no larger
than 5mm. O nce sprayed in the colour of
your choice they re barely noticeable. We ve
used blue K evlar for our drivers instead
of yellow and introduced anodised black
aluminium tweeters, so that nothing behind
the grille stands out. And theres now a choice
of round or square grilles, so you can pick the
shape that fits best with its surroundings.
Nautilus Swirl
The Nautilus tube is one of our most famous
inventions a horn that works in reverse by
absorbing unwanted sound radiation away
from the back of a driver. A tube is all verywell
for speakers with the space to accommodate
it but what about a small ceiling-mounted
speaker? For the tweeters in the Custom
Installation 600 Series ceiling speakers, we ve
achieved the same effect byflattening the tube
and twisting it into a spiral. So while the speakers
are shallow enough to squeeze into the most
confined spaces, the sound emanating from the
front is just as focused, and just as natural.
Dreamweaving
Woven fabric cones are at the heart of our
Custom Installation Series speakers. Whether
the material is glass fibre or K evlar, the blend
of fibre, resins and cone geometry produces
an incredibly well-controlled cone that reduces
standing waves, minimizes coloration and
leaves transient attack unblurred. As a result
the sound produced is remarkably clean, clear
and dynamic.
Great soundfromanyangle
In most custom installation set-ups, listeners
will rarelystand directlyunderneath a speaker
which is whyalmost all of the tweeters in our
in-ceiling speakers can be positioned in a variety
of angles. To improve the directionalityand focus
of the sound even further, we ve introduced a
switch on the front of the baffle that allows you
to optimise the midrange frequencies too. Its a
near-perfect sound experience, whichever way
you look at it.

a 1 x 25mm (1in) soft dome tweeter.
Looking for discreet Hi-Fi sound in a sauna,
shower room or indoor swimming pool?
Introducing the CI 300 Series: a range of custom
installed speakers offering the exceptional sound
quality you expect from Bowers & Wilkins, but
designed especially to work in high humidity
environments. Constructed from rugged,
moisture-resistant materials, this range brings
music to places other speakers cant reach.
Custom Series
CWMLCR7
The CWM LCR7 features twin 100mm (4in)
mica cone bass drivers, a 100mm (4in) woven
K evlar cone midrange driver and a Nautilus
tube-loaded 25mm (1in) aluminium dome
tweeter. The mica bass drivers provide the low
frequency snap characteristic of any really good
loudspeaker.
CCM818
An unobtrusive, flush-mounted, in-celling
speaker, the CCM 818 is as powerful as it is
discreet. The speakers 200mm (8in) woven
K evlar cone drive unit is fitted at a 12-degree
angle, thereby retaining some of its cousins
sound directionality.
CCM816
Featuring a K evlar bass/midrange drive unit, the
CCM 816 in-ceiling speaker is a smaller version
of the CCM 818, designed for home theatre or
2-channel applications. Fitted at a 28-degree
angle, the 165mm (6. 5in) woven K evlar cone
drive unit enables the optimum listening axis to
be directed more towards the listening area.
Back by popular demand, our original Custom
Series is renowned as a classic among fans
of custom installed sound systems. The range
includes high-spec models, and smaller
in-ceiling models.
In-Wall Subwoofers Bass is a vital element in our enjoyment of
sound. Its true for both music and movies, and
its as true for custom installation as it is for an
audiophiles two-channel Hi-Fi or a custom built
home theatre. With almost 50 years experience
in the pursuit of true sound, this is something we
understand at Bowers & Wilkins.
That is why we have developed a brace of
specially designed in-wall subwoofers for custom
installation purposes. The ISW-3 and ISW-4
provide tight, controlled, yet deep bass without
impacting on your living environment.
ISW-4
If you re looking for a built-in subwoofer that
can provide big bass and audiophile extension
for anyof our Custom Installation systems, the
ISW-4 is for you. Two long-throw 200mm (8in)
drivers allow it to move the large volumes of air
needed for high-qualitylow-frequencyoutput. The
speaker is housed in its own sturdyback box for
rock-solid stabilityand minimum sound bleed,
and is powered bythe SA250 M k2, a separate
audiophile-standard 250W Class D amplifier.
ISW-3
The ISW-3 is an incrediblyversatile and compact
in-wall and in-ceiling subwoofer, capable of
providing high-qualitybass output in spaces
that mayhave previouslymissed out on this
vital element, including kitchen cabinets! Its
balanced design, featuring 2 x 160mm (6in)
drivers, means that it can be placed in a variety
of locations without causing vibrations. Powered
bya separate audiophile-standard 250W Class
D amplifier the SA250 M k2, the system keeps its
cool even when you re listening to demanding
movie soundtracks at high volumes.
SA250Mk2
The SA250 M k2 subwoofer amplifier is
specificallydesigned for use with the Custom
Installation Series in-wall subwoofers, the ISW-3
and ISW-4. Deceptivelyslim at 3. 5inches, and
weighing 11. 9lb, it provides 250 Watts of power.
The SA250 M k2s equalisation is custom tailored
to the in-wall subwoofers, with a two position EQ
switch to select between the ISW-3 and ISW-4.
Seamless performance
AM-1s minimalist good looks arent just for
show. The seamless design of the cabinet shell
keeps the inner workings perfectly sealed,
providing deep, immersive bass as well as
protecting the speaker from the elements.
Combine this with a one-inch aluminium
tweeter dome, a two-way drive unit design and
a passive radiator for superior bass output,
and you have a speaker than sings beautifully,
whatever the weather.
Easy installation
With AM-1, installation is made as easy and
unfussy as possible. The discreet L-shaped
bracket houses all the speaker terminals so
once youve wired up the bracket and mounted
it to the wall, all thats left to do is slot in the
speaker and youre ready to play. The bracket
allows the speaker to be tilted/rotated 110
degrees from centre.
If you want to bring impeccable sound to places
where conventional speakers fear to tread,
weve come up with the ideal solution: the AM-1
architectural monitor. This weatherproof speaker
is designed with the outdoors in mind its
perfect for gardens, pool sides and patios but
its robust durability and sleek looks also makes it
a great choice for public indoor spaces like bars
or restaurants.
