choir & theater classes

Thanks to continued support by all our families, this year the PTA is able to offer an
after-school choir for grades 3-5, and theater class for grades 6-8.
Classes will take place once-a-week after school starting September 16
and culminate in a final performance (tentatively scheduled for evening of December 17).

Due to a limited number of spaces, participation will be awarded by audition.

FAQs
why hold auditions? The audition is not as much about assessing talent as it is about gauging a
students enthusiasm, cooperation and respect, and to help ensure that the most dedicated
students are able to participate. Preparing for the audition is important towards demonstrating
the student's enthusiasm and commitment! Those who are selected will be required to sign a
participation contract.
how do I sign my child up for an audition? We need a count of how many students are
interested in auditioning; therefore it is mandatory that parents send an email letting us know
that your child wishes to audition. rsvp no later than Thursday September 5.

how can my child prepare for auditions?
*choir: Students will audition individually using the ABC song (Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star).
*theater: Students will participate in a group activity. Students are also asked to prepare a one-
minute memorized piece. Download theater audition pieces at
www.sauganashpta.org/calendar-of-events under the September 9 listing. There are three pieces to
choose from, or your child can prepare something of his/her choosing (just keep material to one
minute or less).
when & where are the auditions? Auditions for both choir & theater will be held on Monday
September 9, 3:00 4:30. Choir auditions will be held in room 224, theater auditions on the
stage. (Please have your child bring homework or reading material to keep occupied while others
are auditioning).

when will classes meet? Class will meet every Monday through December 16, 3:00-4:00
who are the teachers? Our new music teacher, Mr. Ryan Einfeldt is teaching the choir, and Ms.
Katy Boza from Lookingglass Theater is teaching the theater class. Mr. Einfeldt and Ms Boza will
be conducting the auditions.
how much does it cost? Thanks to the generosity of Sauganash Elementary families and the hard
work of the PTA, the choir & theater classes are offered at no cost to the participants. The PTA
hopes to raise enough funds to offer these again in the spring.
