Cuban Missile Crisis The Cuban Missile Crisis is when Cuba teamed up with the Communist party to put nuclear weapons pointed at the U.S. (1962) Cuba was then cut off from all trade with United States. After this conflict both super powers began to back away from Nuclear Warfare. Two Long-Term Consequences Consequence #1 Countries had to choose which side they wanted to join, which caused micro wars in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East Consequence #2 The world lived in a fear of a nuclear attack for nearly 50 years. N.A.T.O and the Warsaw Pact. N.A.T.O. (North Atlantic Treaty Organization.) DEMOCRACY.. This was an alliance among many nations to ensure safety to other countries against Communist threats. Warsaw Pact- This was an alliance between the Communist countries. It formed in 1955 in response to N.A.T.O. Korea and Vietnam Korean War In 1950 Korea divided into North(Communist) and South (Democracy) Korea. The North began to invade the South so the Americans went to defend South Korea, and China helped North Korea Vietnam War North Vietnam is communist and South Vietnam is a Democracy. America comes to help the South. However, eventually America withdraws from the war due to a variety of reasons. Today Vietnam is under Communist control Middle East (Afghanistan) The Afghan War was a civil war between Anti-Communist Muslims and the Afghan Communist government. The unpopular government became Allies with the Soviets upsetting the Muslim and largely Anti-Communist population. Lasted about 9 years. (1979-1989) America then trained the Anti-Communist terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda eventually leading to the events of 9/11.
Duck and Cover During the Cold War many people were concerned that there would be a nuclear bomb dropped in America so Duck and Cover so the purpose of the program was to show children what to do in case of an A-Bomb explosion. Sources:
