WORK HISTORY
Archaeological Laboratory Technician 10/2013 Present
Employer: Atkins North America, Inc., Austin, TX
I am responsible for curating incoming archaeological collections and records from Atkins field investigations in
Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana before they go to a permanent repository. Curating artifacts includes
using current best practices in handling, washing, labeling, cataloging, analyzing, photographing, enclosing in
archival housing to preserve the item in perpetuity for future researchers, and shipping artifacts collected on
private property back to landowners.

Records processing includes requesting trinomials, digitizing site forms, illustrating report figures, researching
missing data, writing site descriptions, writing artifact analysis section of reports, and organizing field forms in
archival quality materials as each states permanent repositorys policies and procedures indicate. There is a large
legacy backlog that I am helping to reduce which include both collections and records processing. I also provide
the Texas Historical Commission and other public document repositories with completed reports and abstracts
on finished projects in fulfillment of Antiquities permit requirements. On occasion I research archaeological
background information on incoming projects including transferring site locations onto company quads from the
states master USGS topo quad maps stored at the Texas Archaeological Research Laboratory (TARL). I use the
following programs and tools: Google Earth Pro, Adobe Professional, MS Office including extensive use of Excel
and Access.

Crew Chief and Field Technician 02/2012-Present
Employer: Turpin and Sons, Inc.
My experience includes seismic and pipeline pedestrian survey, shovel testing, trench profiles, some excavation
and crew chief duties including preparing reports, curating records, and communicating orally and verbally
directly with the client and other subcontractors. I document evidence of past human activity with handheld
GPS units and TexSite, site forms submitted to Texas Historical Commission Site Atlas, the statewide archaeology
site database. I do background research, draft Texas Antiquities Permit applications, and recommend avoidance
paths for energy production and seismic survey crews intending to grub or otherwise disrupt the surface of the
land. I put this experience and others that might not seem relevant because I see the land and cultural resources
as the collections I manage and hope to encourage scholarship/research about. Also I intend to demonstrate that
I have been on the field-side (as opposed to only the lab/museum-side) and can empathize with the unique
situations that arise in that environment. I use the following programs and tools: Terrain Navigator, Garmin
GPS, GPSMap Edit, sendmap 20, Corel Paint Shop Pro x4, Microsoft Office, Goggle Earth, and Dropbox.

Archaeological Research Assistant 01/2011-02/2012
Administrative Assistant 05/2006-12/2010
Educational Instructor 05/2005-01/2011
Employer: SHUMLA Archaeological Research and Education Center
SHUMLA is a non-profit research and educational center committed to connecting people of all ages with the
land and their cultural heritage. As the SHUMLA research assistant, I collaborated with archaeologists and other
scientists on the most intensive rock art documentation project undertaken in the region, the Lower Pecos Rock
Art Recording and Preservation Project, est. in 2009, see more at:
http://www.archaeological.org/news/hca/4471#sthash.rxpeAyZ3.dpuf. I consulted the Information Technologist
during the creation and maintenance of a relational database collecting all research data into one usable space. I
represented SHUMLA at Texas Archeology Society, Society for American Archaeologists and Texas Association of
Museums annual meetings, and shadowed Rupestrian Cyberservices team learning valuable data management
and presentation techniques. I have organized and maintained digital and physical files and photographs, wrote
policies and procedures, and trained others in the use of equipment for digital photography, audio-visual
presentations, printing/scanning/copying/faxing, credit cards, and a cash register. Teaching Assistant duties during
college level field schools est. in 2006 include lab lessons on digital image enhancement and data storage. I also

organized and coordinated field excursions by contacting landowners/stewards, organized field data, made
logistic recommendations, drove 4WD vehicle to remote rock art locales. Back at the lab, I lead the curation
effort of the thousands of photographs of the rock art we took, including all metadata on each image. On a
more basic level, I performed administrative assistant duties as well. I used the following programs and tools in
my work: MS Office Professional including Excel and Access, Extensis Portfolio, Adobe PhotoShop, Image-J, D-
Stretch image enhancement software, Quickbooks and Customer Manager, and some limited GIS applications.

Museum Intern Student Conservation Association (SCA) 08/2005-05/2006
Employer: Amistad National Recreation Area-National Park Service (NPS)
As the Collections Manager at Amistad National Recreation Area-NPS, I managed the day-to-day care of the
collections including handling guidelines, preventative conservation, cleaning, minor conservation repair, pest
management, storage, and environmental monitoring. I recruited, trained, and managed up to 5
intern/volunteers for various projects. Using the new Collections Management Plan and the annual checklist of
deficiencies, I took the museum storage facility down from 80% deficient to 10% deficient in 6 months by
implementing better storage conditions and updating policies and procedures. I worked with museum storage
and exhibit related environmental monitors, created maintenance schedules, and completed a rehousing project
with the help of skilled volunteers. I learned and subsequently used the NPS Re:discovery database extensively
to manage 1.5 million artifacts, the bulk being stored at the TARL, but some representative collections still
remain in Del Rio.

I also had the opportunity to instruct students of all ages on the ancient lifeways of the area hunter gatherers
and on museum careers. I collaborated with the park archaeologist in developing an exhibit presenting primitive
technology in a fun, informative, and meaningful way. I co-wrote and co-presented with SCA archeology intern
Fire in the Hole: Prehistoric Earth Oven Cooking at Amistad at a Coffee with a Ranger Program, and assisted
park archeologist with archeological site condition reporting and resource management. Programs and tools I
used include: NPS Museum Handbooks and Conserv-O-Grams, Adobe Photoshop , MS Office Pro, and
Automated National Cataloging System (ANCS+) Re:discovery database.

Museum Registrar, Collections Manager Fall 2004
Employer: Silent Wings Museum, Lubbock, TX

Pre-cataloged rare books, created a hyperlinked digital and physical student worker manual by compiling
policies and procedures into one document, shelved and physically processed rare books (made storage boxes
from scratch and covered fragile books with Mylar), typed call numbers on acid-free slips, trained others on
how to make rare book storage boxes. I used resources such as Library of Congress and other databases to
collect book information (OCLC & DRA), MS Office, as well as good ole Physical Processing.

Resident Assistant 2001-2002
