S
ummer is the best time of the year to enjoy once-in-a-
lifetime experiences: trips, new contacts, new places,
and why not, choosing a stimulating environment to
train along with professionals from all over the world.
The Summer Courses at the IED Madrid bring together
all of these conditions: they allow students to enjoy and
learn through an enriching experience, at the same time
as they can reinvent themselves in the elds of design
and communication. All of this in a context that promotes
networking between students and teachers, with the best
premises, right in the city centre, to experience the IED
world rst-hand, and to learn about project methodology
with the help of the professionals who teach our courses and
MA programmes. Likewise, Madrid offers everything that a
student seeks. It is cosmopolitan, welcoming, fun, traditional
and avant-garde, open and dynamic, as well as the capital
of design and innovation, with an intense cultural life and a
youthful, optimistic and curious spirit.
The Summer Courses at the IED Madrid allow students to
delve into this world through activities guided by our teachers
that take place alongside conventional teaching: visits and
trips to the most interesting and active locations in the Madrid
summer. Once the course is over, students can use the credits
obtained to combine them with other programmes in our
school, to continue studying with more advantages.

Who can take a Summer Course at the IED

Madrid?
The Summer Courses at the IED Madrid are open
to anyone over the age of 16. These programmes
allow students to discover and develop their full
creative potential, and by the end of the course
they will be given a professional portfolio to
access the work world and to be admitted into a
subsequent academic cycle.
When are the classes taught?
The Summer Courses last for three weeks
and take place between the 1st and the 25th
of July 2014. The lessons are taught between
Monday to Friday from 16:30 and 21:30. There is
also the option of taking some lessons and going
on outings at different times.
What are the admission requirements?
The Summer Courses are open to anyone
with a strong interest in art and design. It is
necessary to have an intermediate level of
Spanish, both spoken and written.
When do students have to register?
There are limited places and access to
each course is established by the order of
registration. Because of this, we advise
students to register ahead of time.

Who teaches the Summer Courses at the IED
Madrid?
The Summer Courses are taught by teachers
who also contribute to MA and Specialisation

They are all active professionals and they deal

monitoring through the whole education
process.
Which complementary activities are offered
along with the training programme?
Through the Summer Course a series of
activities are offered to help students get to
know more about the cultural, business and
design events taking place in Madrid, with a
special emphasis on the disciplines examined
in each course. The programme includes
visits to institutions, businesses, industry
fairs, events, lectures and cultural activities.
These experiences also promote connections
between students from different cultures and
nationalities, generating fruitful professional
networks between them.

The students enrolled in the Summer Courses
can arrange for their accommodation
through the IED Madrid during their training
experience. The accommodation will be in

What to do in your free time?
The weekend is the ideal time to enjoy and
discover Madrid and its surroundings. The
city offers a wide range of leisure activities
(lectures, theatre, cinema, concerts, festivals,
etc.) and many museums (the Thyssen-
Bornemisza, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofa,
the CaixaForum Madrid, the Museo del Prado,
etc.), making it one of the cultural reference
points in Europe, and a candidate to the
Cultural Capital 2020. Additionally, its location
and wide-ranging public transport system
allow students to easily visit Toledo, Segovia
and Salamanca, all of which are Unesco World
Heritage Centres.

Programme
Fashion Workshop
A journey through the world of fashion
through a range of creative proposals,
examining the different production
processes involved in the design of a piece.

Design Workshop
The aim is to enable participants to analyse
and assess the relationships between a
day-to-day object and its true role in our
daily life. All of this is founded on the idea of
establishing, through design, an action for the
discovery or rediscovery of the roles played
by the objects that no longer form part of our
lives, and have been forgotten because they
are broken, we have become tired of them, or
their original role is no longer of any use.

Interior Design Workshop
During this workshop students will acquire
the basic tools needed to work as an interior
designer. Through practical and theoretical
lessons, they will learn about the way in
which space, proportions and lighting are
some of the essential elements on which
interior designers reect, playing with them
to plan each space.
Graphic Design Workshop
Being a graphic designer means knowing
how to use typographies, forms, colours,
photographs, etc., but also to be able to
understand each commission. Our work
is highly creative but also has an equally
important strategic component. During
this workshop we will develop a range of
commissions using the same methodology
as professional designers. The result will be
graphically outstanding and entirely real
projects, in the sense that they are based
on the daily reality of professional graphic
designers.
Objectives
The aim of this transverse course is to
encourage students to develop their own
creative potential in four different areas.
The workshops will be taught by renowned
professionals who will train and guide those
taking part in the workshops, improving their
creativity thanks to lessons and practical
exercises. In this way, students will have the
chance to become familiar with the different
stages in a multidisciplinary creative process.

The course is divided into fourcreative workshops and cultural visits.
I. Workshops
Four intensive 20-hour workshops will be carried out during the
course. They will be taught by professional experts who will share with
students the necessary knowledge to study and develop creative work.

II. Cultural Visits
Students will enjoy a number of guided visits on weekends, visiting
the best museums in the city as a complement to their training in the
elds of design. Madrid boasts one of the most important museum
itineraries in the world, with the Museo del Prado, the Centro de Arte
Reina Sofa and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.

an has always used the
image to communicate.
Understood as reality
and symbol, it represents the
whole and the parts, the real
and the ctitious, it transmits
emotion and meaning. It is also
the link between the word and our
experience of the world, as well
as being a socialising element.
It occupies the most important
place in communication and
involves people, society and
culture.
The multiplication of electronic
devices and the diversity of
communication channels present
us with an almost uninterrupted
ow of images. An invasion
which determines our way of
communicating and has involved
a change in our culture.
This circumstance requires a
constant generation and updating
of visual systems, which decide
the communication link between
individuals, companies, platforms
and networks.
The IED Visual

This
circumstance
requires a
constant
generation and
updating of
visual systems,
which decide the

Because of all this, the IED Master Visual

Communication School supplies the tools
and theoretical and technical foundations
necessary to cope with this new scene, based
on the following objectives:
To analyze the current role of the image and
pose possible alternatives for the immediate
future.
To delve into theoretical, technical and
projectual knowledge of the different elds of
audiovisual design.
To provide the students with a creative vision.
The IED Master Visual Communication
School trains competent professional for
their incorporation into the work market
and entrepreneur activity, by means of the
tools and the vision to interact directly with
the world as a generating agent of value and
change.

The IED Master is constantly in contact with the
business world as part of its curriculum, with
a relationship that runs parallel to the training
course.
Teaching and business are intertwined in each
of the courses, enriching the educational
experience of the students with case studies,
competitions, involvement in projects, etc.
This link is consolidated in most programmes
with the completion of a nal project in which
the student makes use of all the knowledge
acquired during the course.
To promote these synergies, the IED Madrid
has a Business Bureau where agreements
with public and private entities are activated,
to develop educational content as part of our
Career Guidance. The aim is to facilitate access
to the employment market and to create a
network of professional contacts from the start
of the academic year.
