Information The UP has the information about topic, target group, etc. X You should use the BACKWARD DESIGN UNIT PLAN Template. STAGE 1 Goals The UP contain a clear goal, that includes communicative skills, content and learning strategies. X You do not use the right formats, so you must answer all the questions that it contains. The objectives need to be more specific and answer questions like: ~ Number of students ~ What relevant goals (e.g. content standards, course or program objectives, learning outcomes, etc.) will this design assess? (Express it as you are already looking at your students achieving the goal) What essential question(s) will be considered? ~ What provocative questions will foster inquiry, understanding, and transfer of learning? ~ What understandings are desired? Students will understand that... ~ What are the big ideas? ~ What specific understandings about them are desired? ~ What misunderstandings are predictable? ~ What key knowledge & skills will students require as a result of this unit? Connection The UP evidences a close connection between the previous questions and the goals. X The goals are not clear and the objectives are very general. STAGE 2 Understanding evidences The tasks proposed in the UP are closely connected to the goals and eliciting questions, as well as to the previous knowledge and expected outcomes. X Try to create different kind of activities for each class and topic taking into account the characteristics of the whole group and each guy as well. The tasks proposed in the UP ease the measurable observation of students understanding.
X Perhaps teachers are wasting a lot of time in easy topics or tasks that students can understand and practice easily. Assessment/ Evaluation evidences The strategies and tools proposed in the UP ease the measurable achievement of the goal.
X Perhaps teachers could try to improve their speaking and listening not only with the teacher's voice but with songs, dialogues, games and some challenging activities for them. STAGE 3 Lesson Plans The lesson plan sample are closely connected to the previous stages. X There are no previous stages so it is hard to know what kind of topics or activities students worked before. These three lesson plan are connected but not reinforcing the knowledge of student more than grammar. Also, the biggest students maybe have learned this before at school so the process is boring for the smallest and repetitive for the biggest ones.
