Shaban is a month between two blessed months, Rajab and Ramadan Shareef. Our Beloved
Nabi ( ) warned us to not be negligent of this month as it leads directly to the month of
Ramadan. Unfortunately, it often goes that this month is neglected even though the merits of
Shaban are endless!
Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) bestowed many gifts upon us all during this month. Treasures
are laid open, blessings are sent down, faults are being forgiven, sins are being expiated, and the
sending of peace and blessings upon Rasulullah ( ) is multiplied many times over. It is a month
of Mercy. Sayyidinah Rasulullah ( ) gave us two methods to prepare ourselves for Ramadan
Shareef: fasting abundantly and sending benedictions upon him (Durood Sharif/Salawat wa
Salaam).
In preparation for Ramadan Shareef, we fast in order to beseech Allah for His help, guidance,
and purification. And with Salawat wa Salaam, we appeal to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He)
through His most Beloved ( ) until our corrupt hearts are set straight, and our inner sicknesses
are cured since [w]hen someone pronounces a single blessing on me, Allah blesses him ten

For The 1
st
Night Of Shaban al Muazzam:
Recall, night comes before the day in Islam. So the 1
st
night begins immediately after
seeing the new crescent moon (hilal) of the month.
After completing Isha prayer, perform 12 rakat Nafl prayer (6 units of 2 rakat Nafl each)
o In every rakah after surah al-Fatiha, recite surah Iklhaas (Surah 112) 15 times
o After finishing your rakat, recite Durood Sharif (Salawat wa Salaam) 70 times.
o InshaAllah, you will be forgiven through the blessings of this prayer.
During the night or day, do ghusl (take full bath). Once you physically purify yourself,
make dua that Allah may grant you spiritual purity as well.

For The 1
st
Friday Night Of Shaban al Muazzam:
Recall, night comes before the day in Islam. Friday night is actually Thursday night;
therefore, this prayer will be read on the 1
st
Thursday night of the month.
After completing Maghrib prayer and before starting Isha prayer, offer 2 rakat Nafl (1
unit of 2 Nafl)
o In each rakat after surah al-Fatiha, recite Ayatul Kursi 1 time, Surah Ikhlaas 10
times, Surah Falaq 1 time, and Surah Nas 1 time.
o This will help to increase ones faith inshaAllah Ameen.
After completing Isha prayer, offer 4 rakat of Nafl prayer (1 unit of 4 rakat Nafl)
o In each rakat after surah al-Fatiha, recite Surah Ikhlaas (Surah 112) 3 times.
o This prayer has great excellence inshaAllah.
*After completing Isha prayer, offer 8 rakat of Nafl prayer (4 units of 2 rakat Nafl each)
o In each rakah after surah al-Fatiha, recite Surah Ikhlaas 11 times.
o At the end of this prayer, send the reward to Syedah Bibi Fatimah Az Zahra ( )
o Syedah Fatimah Az Zahra ( ) said about the person who performs this ibadat,
I will not step into paradise until I take that person with me and I make that
person enter into paradise with me.

For The 14
th
Night Of Shaban al Muazzam:
After completing Maghrib prayer, offer 2 rakat of Nafl prayer (1 unit of 2 rakat)
o In each rakat after Surah al-Fatiha, recite the last three verses of Surah Hashr 1
time, then Surah Ikhlaas 3 times.
o This prayer will aide in seeking the forgiveness of Allah (Azawajal)

**For The 15th Of Sha'ban al-Muazzam (Shab e Barat) (Nisf ul Shaban) (Middle Of
Shaban):
There are numerous blessings associated with worshipping Allah on this night, and fasting
during the day. Many such virtues taken from authentic Sahih ahadtih are provided in the link
provided above. A beautiful article from The Monthly Noor has been reprinted with permission
below:
In Arabic, this night is known as Laylat al-Nisf min Shaban which means the night of
the middle of Shaban, referring to the 15th night. It is also referred to as Laylat al-Bara,
or the Night of Absolution (ecclesiastical declaration of forgiveness of sins).

Just as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) placed special emphasis on praying in the
night, and fasting through the day, He has also bestowed unique blessings and mercies on
particular days and nights over others such as the night of Laylatul Qadr, the day our
Prophet ( ) was born, the days and nights of the Eids, and the night of Nisful Shaban
among many others.

This is the night where:
..a caller will call: is there anyone who is asking for forgiveness so I forgive? Is
there anyone who is asking so I grant?.Anyone who asks will be granted, except
an adulterer and a Mushkrik (Imam Bayhaqi).
..when all births are recorded for the year, and every death is registered.
..when provisions are allotted to mankind, and their deeds and actions are
gathered up.
God the Exalted showers goodness (Khayr) in abundance
deaths and provisions are determined
[those who will complete Hajj] pilgrimages written (Kanz al-ummal).
God looks [at His creation] during the Night of Mid-Shaban and forgives the
entirety of His creation except for the polytheist and the citer of ill-will amongst
people (mushahin) (Sunan Ibn Maja).
The angels celebrate Eid on this night as well as on the night of Laylatul Qadr
just as Muslims celebrate Eid on Fitr and Adha.
..people who will be saved from the Fire [will be as many] as the number of hairs
on the sheep of [the tribe] of Kalb (Kanz al-ummal).
The activity of the year is mapped outso a man may embark on a journey, or
get married, when he has already been transferred from the list of the living to that
of the dead (Ata ibn Yasar).
Every event for the year is mapped (grades, etc)
Good deeds are either rejected or accepted
Allah opens hundreds of gates of mercy in forgiveness.
This is truly an extraordinary night! Nisful Shaban is a blessed night with many
authentic narrations regarding it as a vessel for mercy, blessing, pardoning, and tawbah so

remember to pray extra Tahajjud salaat and make dua for your brothers and sisters and
those you love.
Sayyidinah Rasulullah ( ) had made the following dua on this night,
Prostrate before You are my form and my spirit, and my heart is in Your
safekeeping. I acknowledge Your favors, and to You I confess my sin. I have
wronged myself, so forgive me; surely none forgives sins but You. I seek refuge
with Your pardon from Your punishment, with Your mercy from Your vengeance,
with Your approval from Your displeasure. I seek refuge with You from You. I do
not tell Your praises, for You are as You have extolled Yourself.
Ibadat For Shab e Barat (Nisf ul Shaban) The 15
th
Night of Shaban:
Before Sunset (so before the 15
th
night begins)
o Recite 40 times:
La Hawla walaa Quwwata illa Billahil-aliyil 'Azeem
After Maghrib Prayer (Salaah) and before Isha
o Offer 6 Rakat Nafl Prayer (2 rakat at a time)
In each rakah after Surah al Fatiha any surah may be read. Or after Surah
al Fatiha one can read Surah Ikhlaas 3 times.
The first 2 rakat should be read with the intention (Niyyah) of seeking
Allah's favor for granting a long and prosperous life.
The second 2 rakat read should be read with the intention (Niyyah) of
warding off all calamities.
The last 2 rakat should be read with the intention (Niyyah) that one may
not be subjugated to the will of the creation for your needs
o After finishing each 2 rakat unit, recite:
Surah Yaseen and/or
Surah Ikhlaas 25 times
o Once all 6 rakat are done:
Recite Durood Sharif / Salawat wa Salaat
Make the following du'a (Dua of Nisful Shaban)

o Translation:
O Allah! You shower favors on everyone, and no one can do You any
favor. O the Possessor of Majesty and Honor, O the Distributor of bounty
and rewards, there is no one worthy of worship except You.

You help the fallen and provide refuge to the refugees and give peace to
those who are in fear. O Allah! If in the Mother of All Books that is with
You, You have written me down as someone who is doubtful of achieving
salvation, or deprived, or rejected, or without enough sustenance, then, O
Allah, with Your Grace remove all of these misfortunes from me.

And in the Mother of All Books that is with You, establish me as someone
who is blessed, with abundant provision and charitable good deeds.
Indeed, what You said in the Book You sent through the tongue of Your
Blessed Prophet is true- that Allah changes and establishes what He wants,
and with Him is the Mother of All Books.

O My Lord! For the sake of Your Divine Manifestation on this fifteenth
night of the blessed month of Sha 'ban in which You issue all Wise and
Irrevocable Decrees, remove from us all calamities and hardships, those
that we know about as well as those that we don't, while You know
everything.

Truly, You are the Most Powerful, Most Generous. And may Allah the
Exalted shower blessings and peace on Sayyidinah Muhammad, and on
his family and his companions. And all praise is for Allah, Lord of the
worlds.

o Once Dua e Nisful Shaban is read, recite Durood Sharif/Salawat wa Salaam



After Isha Prayer At Night Perform The Following:
o 2 Rakat Nafl Prayer
In each rakah, after Fatihah, recite:
Ayatul Kursi 1 time
Surah Ikhlaas 15 times
After ending, recite Durood Shareef/Salawat 100 times
Make du'a to seek subsistence in abundance

o 8 Rakat Nafl Prayer (2 rakat at a time)
In each rakah, after Fatihah, recite:
Surah Qadr 1 time
Surah Ikhlaas 25 times
After ending, ask for forgiveness, and inshaAllah your sins will be
forgiven

o 8 Rakat Nafl Prayer (4 rakat at a time)
In each rakah, after Surah al-Fatiha, recite:
Surah Ikhlaas 10 times
After ending, ask for freedom from torment of the grave, and inshAllah
you will be free of such torment.
o Recite Surah Qadr 7 times
Mawla Ali is reported to have said, "Whoever recites Surah Qadr seven
times after 'Isha prayer, in the night of the 15th of Sha'ban will be
protected from every disaster and one thousand angels will make
supplication for the sake of the reciter."
o Pray Salaatul Khair
This prayer consists of 100 rakat Nafl including 1000 repetitions of Surah
Ikhlaas (performed in pairs of 2 making 50 units of 2 Nafl rakat)
This can be performed in the following manner
In each rakat after Surah al-Fatiha, recite Surah Ikhlaas 10 times
o Pray Salaatul Tasbih
This is a prayer with much benefit. It is said this prayer should be either
offered daily, every 8
th
day, once a year, or at least once in a lifetime.
Its said that whoever offers this prayer, all his sins are forgiven.
o Make this du'a:

Fast!
After praying Dhuhr salaat
Pray 4 rakat Nafl (2 rakat at a time)
o In first rakah after Fatiha, recite:
Surah Zalzalah 1 time
Surah Ikhlaas 10 times
o In second rakah after Fatiha, recite:
Surah Al-Takathur 1 time
Surah Ikhlaas 10 times
o In third rakah, after Fatihah, recite:
Surah Kafiroon 3x
Surah Ikhlaas 10x
o In fourth rakah, after Fatihah, recite:
Ayatul Kursi 3x
Surah Iklaas 25x
