Introduction
In class, we play a game called Dealing Down. I and my partner are trying
to get a smaller number by using adding, subtraction, multiply or division.
This is how we play. First one of us has to get four cards from the pile. Then
in our notebook, we have to figure out which operation in the sentence will
get us the smaller answer by ourselves. When we finish we share what
answer we got. Whoever gets the smallest answer that person win.
For example: -3?-5?-1? 10=smallest number
I did -351-10 which equal to -11, but my partner did a different way to
get the smaller answer and he got 1,252,634,240, so he won. The reason
why he won is because even if -11 is closer to 0, 1,252,634,240 is a lot bigger
than -11.

Operations with Positive & Negative
In order to get the smallest number, you need to remember all the
positive and negative rules. If you know all the rules, it will help you win
every round in this game. Here all the rules that might help you win.
Negative plus a positive is equal depending on which number has the
most absolute value
Negative plus a negative is equal to depending on which number has
the most absolute value
Positive plus a positive is equal to positive
Negative minus a negative is equal to negative
Negative minus a positive is equal depending on which number has
the most absolute value
A smaller number minus a bigger number is equal to negative
Positive minus a positive is equal to positive
Positive times a positive is equal to positive
Positive times a negative is equal to negative
Positive divide by negative is equal to negative
Positive divide by positive is equal to positive
Negative divide by negative is equal to positive
A negative smaller number divide by a positive bigger number is
negative decimal number
How do negative exponents work?
Negative exponents are not that hard. It like doing positive
exponents, but instead of multiplying it is division. You can use this in the
Dealing Down game. It might help you get the smallest number, so you
could win. Here is an example: 4-7
1. Solve the exponent which is in a longer way it is 7 divide by 7
4times.
2. Subtract it from 4.

Order of Operations
The reason why order of operation exists is because a lot of people all
did it in the different way. If everybody did a differently, their answer will
be not the same and it hard to tell if they got it right. With the order of
operations everyone will get the same answer as long they make no mistake
or follow it right. In order to remember all the steps is by knowing
PEMDAS.
Here the order:
Step 1 P= Parentheses ()
Step 2 E= Exponent
Step 3 M= Multiplication *
Step 4 D= Division
Step 5 A= Addition +
Step 6 S= Subtraction

Commutative Property of Addition & Multiplication
Commutative Property of Addition and Multiplication mean no
matter how you switch the number around it will always get you the same
answer. For example 7 plus 3 is equal to 10 = 3 plus 7 is equal to 10 and 77
times 7 is equal to 504 = 7 times 77 is equal to 504. This can help me add
and multiply rational numbers by letting me choosing which way it is easier
to me.

Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition &
Subtraction
Distributive property of multiplication over addition and subtraction
mean to simply an expression by multiply a number by a sum or a
difference. For example the property states that the product of a sum or
difference, such as 7(5 2), is equal to the sum or difference of the products
in this case, 7(5) 7(2). This property helps me do calculations with
rational numbers when I am in a restaurant with my family. Let say each of
us order the same foods that is $5 hamburger and a $2 drink. I can use the
distributive property to calculate the math for all 5 of us 5(5+2).

Reflection
What I learn from playing Dealing Down was how choose an
operation to make my answer smaller. What I learn from writing the report
was what I needed to explain more. It helps me learn how to explain the
operation. I think I need to work on understanding more the order or
operation and commutative property.
