SCENARIO

The Organisation

Kinh Do Corporation is a business group of Vietnam with an emphasis on distribution of
imported branded snack and candy goods, and food production including baked goods,
confections, snacks and soft drinks. The Kinh Do story starts with a small family business in
1993, with a single snack product which has since grown to include 300 products under 30
brands; creating one of the most well-known and dynamic companies in Vietnam. Kinh Dos
market leading position is a result of their strong local presence, significant distribution reach,
innovative product strategy, and high quality products. Main office of the company is located in
Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2010, Kinh Do focused more on both internal processes and business activities to be
effective and efficient. Kinh Do restructured to build a professional distribution system capable
of reaching broad regions in the country with high efficiency, enabling robust growth for the
company. Kinh Dos corporate strategy focuses on mergers and acquisitions, efficient business
processes and well-connected distribution system. To date, Kinh Dos distribution system has
been very convincing in its transformation, incorporating 200 best distributors, servicing
120,000 retail outlets, 30,000 ice-cream and dairy products retailers, and 30 Kinh Do Bakery
stores across the county. With 1,300-strong sales force, Kinh Do is ranked among top
companies which have the best distribution system in Vietnam.

As a manufacturing company, Kinh Dos functional departments include sales, marketing, R&D,
logistics, purchasing, production, finance and accounting, HR and IT. Kin Dos organisation
structure is exhibited below. The companys manufacturing plants are located in Ho Chi Minh
City, Hung Yen and Binh Duong Provinces. As a large organization, effective cooperation
among functional departments is a crucial factor in successful business operations of the group.
Moreover, almost all business processes require associated tasks and activities taken across
various departments and SBUs as well as some external stakeholders.

As the company grows, process standardisation will be among the primary focuses of the
functional departments in its building of the foundation upon which to accelerate growth.
Standardising processes and work flows help the company to scale up faster in the post M&A
and expansion scenarios.

Strategic management activities and processes are carried out at the highest management
levels in head office. These include implementation and evaluation of cross-functional
decisions that enable the organisation to achieve long-term objectives. Among such operational
processes are coordinating activities, setting product strategies, identifying new investments,
mergers and acquisitions, expanding distribution network, and establishing joint-ventures.

In order to achieve its corporate objectives, Kindo Do managers must ensure that these
functional activities and processes in this large and complex organization are carried out
effectively and efficiently with high quality standards. Management must make sure that
objectives of every functional area must be aligned with those of the organization. Quality
management is practiced throughout the organization from strategic to operational level.

Your Role

Assume that you are newly appointed Business Consultant to Kinh Do. You are assigned to
provide assessments and recommendations to the management for the issues addressed in
the tasks below. Provide your analysis in a report format with a proper memorandum.

When evaluating the tasks below, you are recommended to consider both internal and external
customers. You may choose your own choice of functional area described in the scenario.

Support your plans for a specific area of responsibility, at your choice, with project management
tools and techniques - such as CPA, PERT, Gantt chart, and other relevant tables when
necessary.

Task 1:

Pass is achieved by meeting all the basic requirements defined in the assessment
criteria.

substantial activities/projects or investigations have been planned,
managed and organised with clear explanation of responsibilities and
implementation of operational plans.

PRESENTATION

1. The assignment should have a cover page that includes the assignment title,
assignment number, course title, module title, Lecturer/tutor name and students name.
Attach all the pages of assignment brief/cover sheet with your report and leave them
blank for official use.

2. Ensure that authenticity declaration has been signed.

3. Content sheet with a list of all headings and page numbers.

4. A fully typed up professionally presented report document. Use Times New Roman-12
or Calibri-11 font and 1.5 Line-spacing.

5. Your assignment should be word-processed and should not exceed 7,000 words in
length. Exhibits/appendices are outside this limit.

6. Use the Harvard referencing system for all citations and references.

7. The assignment should contain a list of any references used.
