Petcos 10th Anniversary Naturally Went to the Dogs and Cats


In celebration of
the 10th anniversary
of Petco Park,
the San Diego
Padres and the
Petco Foundation,
a nonprofit serving
as a voice for
KUDOS/GIVING
companion animals
since 1999, donated
Stephanie R. Glidden
$10,000 to the San Diego Humane
Society during the pregame ceremony
May 18.
In his first major event since his
foot amputation in late March, Father
Joe Carroll, is issuing a fundraising
challenge for this years TOWERthon
on May 31. Father Joe pledges to make
at least 50 trips on the elevator during
the event, while race participants run
22 flights of stairs in the downtown
San Diego high-rise 550 Corporate
Center. Proceeds raised by Father
Joe and the competitors will benefit
the homeless youth of St. Vincent de
Paul Villages Toussaint Academy. For

To help in the relief efforts
associated with the wildfires
throughout San Diego County, San
Diego-based Chicken of the Sea is
donating $10,000 to the San Diego
Fire Rescue Foundation as part of

a local nonprofit giving organization,
has issued a call to local nonprofits to
apply for the third annual Advance San
Diego event and compete for more than
$75,000 in cash and services. Advance
San Diego is modeled after the popular
fast-pitch venture capital funding
competitions like the TV show Shark
Tank. SDSVP helps local nonprofit
organizations define their impact, clearly

result of the competition.
From the applications, 30 nonprofit
finalists will be chosen to work with a
SDSVP mentor. Finalists will present
their fast-pitch to influential funders,
philanthropists, businesses and
community leaders in October.
SDSVP offers three competition
segments: STEM; Military and their
Families; and Youth and the Arts.
Nonprofits serving these areas are
encouraged to apply. There is no cost
to participate in SDSVPs Advance San
Diego program. For information on

The Boys & Girls Clubs of San
Dieguitos 2013 Overall Youth of the
Year, Daisy Aguilar, just announced
she is a recipient of the prestigious
Gates Millennium Scholarship Award.
Daisy now will be able to attend the
University of San Diego, her first choice
out of nine universities she received
acceptance letters from. More than
52,000 applicants applied this year
which puts Daisy in the 2 percent of
students who received the award. The
Gates Millennium Scholarship award
is funded by a grant from the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation.
Daisy grew up in a single-parent
home in the Hispanic community
of La Colonia de Eden Gardens in
the Solana Beach, She has attended
the after-school program at the La
Colonia Branch of the Boys & Girls
Clubs of San Dieguito since she was 9
years old. Daisy will be the first in her
family to attend college and plans to
double major in business and sociology
and obtain her minor in nonprofit
